What Did We Learn? - Michigan

Agree. To date I don't see evidence it's a Bo like issue where he's stubbornly playing coverage at the expense of run support. I didn't like seeing the entire middle of the field vacated vs that RPO on Underwood's TD, but one play is not the same as watching a QB who can't pass continually run all over you because you won't compromise your backend coverage principles.
Oh man, Bose Peso * coverage is a nostalgic term I haven’t heard in a bit. Can’t remember why 😁

You're bordering on making a straw man out of what I wrote. You're making it into something I didn't write.

Of course, graduating Robinson and Hutmacher hurts this year's team immensely. But we don't know who might have stayed if Tony White stayed out of the guys that transferred out.

And also, Tony brought the intensity. I can't prove to you that John Butler has a significantly lower intensity level he's bringing to the defensive side of the ball. Can't prove it, but I personally tend to think that it's a significant factor, personally.
And when Knighton, your DL coach, coins the phrase "Death Row" to describe the DL it sends a statement.

And I agree about the intensity for sure.

I don't know if a lot of people know this, but Raiola's dad was an offensive lineman. Raiola is not fast. Raiola is not going to be fast. He wasn't recruited to be fast. Complaining about him not being fast is a useless complaint.

As a "run the damn ball guy", even I can appreciate his QB play to date. Get a serviceable OL and he has the potential to be one of the most prolific QB's in NU history. I disagree with Rhule when he said that our O is "multiple" by looking at how many guys have touched the ball. IMHO, balance is run/pass ratio. BUT I am amazed at how many guys have gotten meaningful touches this year. Yes some came in game 2 and 3, but this will build for the future. I cannot remember the last time we didn't have a drop off in talent when the non-starters came in, even against lesser talent.

I do think that DR is "capable" to get yards with his feet. Especially if he continues to throw as well as he does. I do love me a truly mobile QB though:D

As teams start defending the intermediate to deep routes, his 6 yard dump offs when he shows run will turn into 12 yard+ scrambles

Remember Scott Frost said "We are not into sloganeering". :D Every time I see "Death Row" it just reminds me of Suge Knight, Snoop, Tupac, The Dogg Pound, Nate Dogg, Dre, Lady of Rage, etcetera. It will never inspire or remind me of football in any way. Many of the guys playing are Knighton recruits. Tony White was never staying and didn't like living in Lincoln so I'm certainly going to give Butler some runway in his first DC role.

Not long ago, many on this board thought it would require the best offensive line ever for a QB to put up numbers like 73%, 308, 3. Turns out a lot of offensive linemen took the fall for a lot of mediocre QB play for a lot of years.

I think the QB's took plenty of blame as well. at least from me. Only difference is you had a couple guys there for a while who could make stuff happen with their feet quite a bit. Down the stretch last year I thought the O-line pass blocked fairly well. I know we lost a couple guys but I think they will get it figured out.

Ha, yes - I remember after one of the Wisonsin blowouts, in the postgame presser Bo got that vein-popping thing going on and he goes "I know how to fix this."

He really got so pissed off when he thought his guys didn't make the right pre-snap reads instead of just having them line up in a better way to stop "X" or "Y." Ugh.

Losing this game really doesn't hurt the Rhule rebuild in any way.

If we were to win the next three games it would be huge.
I agree, if we go 9-3 with losses to Michigan, Penn St, and USC it is going to be far from a disappointing season. Rhule's teams has progressed each year, and anyone who thought NU would go 11-1 like Baylor did in year 3 is crazy. The BIG is a different animal compared to what the Big 12 was when he was there. The program is trending up, and while it's not moving as fast as a lot of people would like, we need to remember for every Indiana there is a Florida or Virginia Tech or even NU under Frost who doesnt get it done.

Correct. We didn't get Indiana'd, we lost to a ranked team by 3.

Winning the next four would be huge. We'd be at 7-1 and have a battle of top 20 teams with USC in Lincoln? Hell yes! (But it won't happen because we'll probably find a way to lose at Maryland and Minnesota).

Why did you have to say that out loud, lol?

My prediction for the season was 7-5. I'm not changing the prediction, but what I'll say is that four games in, I believe our offense is way more dynamic and capable than I thought it was going to be.

If Raiola routinely has numbers like throwing for 300 yards and 3 TD's in the next several games it's honestly going to be hard for those teams to beat us.

We just need a little bit more on defense.

I'm leaning 9-3 or 8-4 currently but I can see 7-5 depending on weather. If we run into some rough weather games where throwing the ball is difficult, we are going to struggle offensively.

I hear you. I did think of Death Row Records when I first heard that as a ton of music in the early 90’s was produced/discovered by them. But for him to coin that as a nickname for the DL was pretty hard.
