Frankly, if he finishes 6-6 I might give him a pass depending on how close the losses are. That schedule is that brutal.

I would give any coach a pass in their first couple of years, but next year is Year 4 for Rhule. In this day and age there are no excuses when you are this far into taking over a new program. Rhule has had the ability to hire any staff members he wanted and recruit any players he wanted. The buck really stops with him.

After the UCLA game he showed he's pretty meh

Depends on your expectations.

If you start him next season against that schedule, and you want Rhule to get fired instead of trodding through 3 more years of this, then by all means start TJ.

He'd be a really good QB at the G5 level, but if the goal is to compete for a bowl game next year, Nebraska needs a considerable upgrade.

Nope, not me. Give TJ the same support and treatment that DR had been given from the staff with the #1 practice reps through next year's first game, plus time working with WRs off season etc... And 3 cupcake games to start the year.... That kind of confidence could turn into something really good.

Backup plan would be at least talk to some portal QBs

No, I would say no one has given up on TJ, but rather he looked like a freshman when facing better competition. Not sure anyone is extremely comfortable based on those final games. Bringing in a top proven QB will be essential. Guys like Sorsby, Chiles, Lageway, Leavitt have all been mentioned by fans
TJ only had a couple of games to prove himself as a true freshman and the majority of folks here were in favor of starting him over DR not too long ago.
Give him a complete offseason to improve and work on his game as QB1 and see where it goes.
We can make a wish list of all the QBs that will be available in the portal; but are any of them really program-changing type QBs, especially for the $$$ they will ask for?
Save that $$$ for quality OL so our QB isn't getting sacked all the time.

National view (Andy and Ari) on DR leaving. Andy says we'll be fine since we have a good chunk of cash to offer.

Also Andy notes at the end that these guys get paid on the 1st and 15th, so that is why we are seeing a bunch of QBs hitting the portal today. Gotta get that last check in the bank before you peace out.

Look at how many times Dylan transferred in high school. The signs were there for anyone recruiting him.

Is he a talented QB? - Yes he is.
Is he a good teammate? - I would say yes & no.

I wish the kid the absolute best of luck in his future. NEBRASKA moves forward.
And a multitude of schools he committed to play college at.

Trolling at it's finest. Dylan kept us in games and won games that we otherwise would have lost without him. Let's not drag his name through the mud, just to fit your narrative.

Dylan led us to winning seasons with lesser talent around him. Unfortunately, we will almost certainly see an exodus of skill players ahead, specifically Barney.
I think this could have been accomplished with any serviceable QB and done a hell of a lot cheaper... JHO

He's good, but not so good that he feels irreplaceable. With time, he'll probably improve his pocket awareness and how quickly he gets the ball out, but I doubt he'll ever be a serious deep threat, and that's gonna be where his ceiling is.

Go get Nico

So has everyone already given up on TJ or is he headed to the portal too?

I mean even if you like TJ, we've effectively lost two QBs (our current and our 2026 commit). One way or another we absolutely need to hit the portal. And honestly, I'm not totally bailing on Lateef or anything, but I'd feel better rolling into 2026 with a seasoned vet than I would with him as the starter.
