2025-2026 Portal Updates

I agree, we probably can’t compete with schools that have mega donors, but don’t think for a second we are broke. Memorial stadium has been sold out since 1962, they sell $40 tee shirts all day plus all the other merch, not to mention food and beverage sales. The athletic program had the #10 valuation in the country based on a quick google search. It seems like we can pull 10s of millions of dollars out our a$$ to fire another failed coaching staff so I refuse to believe the coffers are not brimming over. What am saying is, there is a difference on being broke and being frugal and it looks like we have chosen the ladder.

You do pose an interesting question though, since we won’t spend top dollar on a roster and Matt has proven to not be a great developer, we find ourselves in…well the situation we are currently in: perpetual mediocrity.View attachment 23457
So should we blow our wad on one season? F$%k it, spend it all? I'm sure we will be fine.... smh. Grow up kid.

Here's an article from 2023 talking about the blue chip ration and schools who won the NC from 2013-2023. says these ratios do npt include transfers, but just recruited players. But does does allude that coaching and development count to build your base and plug holes from the portal.

The next article is current rankings and shows what "star rankings" they picked up and lost and "adjusted NIL value". I have no idea what that means. NU is ranked 30th, 16 in and 17 out, gained/lost 1 4* and gained/lost 15 3* so an even swap. Alleged NIL is $2 Mil (no idea how calculated), but an adjustment of +$364k. Again, no idea what that means.

Oddly enough, winning didn't seem to impact rankings, but numbers of transfers in dod seem to positively impact. Indy was #1 with 17 players. Grabbed 3 4* guys and 13 3*. Adjusted NIL shows increase of +$5.4 mil. Again, no explanatin given as to what that means....

didn't the washington QB do the same thing and he got out of the newly signed contract? not sure what the team can do if the player wants to leave. if they stop him and he doesn't want to stay he can just sit and collect the money i guess

He said he was going to but then backtracked.

Note the description of that ranking carefully. It's not a ranking of how strong a team's portal class is relative to other teams! Rather, it's a score that looks at what a team gained from the portal vs what they lost to the portal - did they net gain or lose talent.

Our score of 7 on that metric means that we had a modest net gain from the portal. The top ten teams all had scores of 30+, meaning they got a much bigger upgrade in talent relative to what they previously had.

247's portal ranking is more traditional. We're #35 there. What kinda concerns me is the average rating is 86.80 for the portal class - we're usually in the 87 or 88 range, and 89 is the minimum if you want to be on the good side of that blue chip ratio.

Appreciate the clarification!!!!
