Why not Brion Carnes

Ive said it before and i'll say it again. People cry because Taylor isnt getting enough coaching and the same people cry that the backup isnt getting enough time, well which do you want? Do you want to develop your starter first or the backup?

Taylor needed all the snaps just as the backups did, but they did the right thing in making Taylors reps the priority.

I think you all made valid points. I just asked a question. I believe Taylor Martinez was very effective against Kansas State in 2010. Honestly I don't care who is at quarterback. I would just like to see us win games. I would like to see us do better with our personnel. I think we have some really good skill guys. We just have to find ways to get them the ball in space. I would like us to sustain drives. I would like us to be efficient on offense and score 30 points in every game. I would like us to limit turnovers. And I would like to see stronger stats from Taylor Martinez against big 10 defenses.

Here is what I believe and take it for what its worth. In our offense a healthy Martinez makes us go. Here is why. We all know about his running ability that really hasnt been the same since Kansas St 2010. When he gets healthy and the rumor now is that he finally is healthy, he CAN make cuts. Something he hasnt been able to do for a while now. Martinez knows it, his teammates know it and so do the coaches.

I think alot of the optimism going on is because Taylor is healthy and we are finally going to see the offense explode. The improved passing will be nice but, its Taylors healthy running ability that will improve our passing game. Anyone ever take notice we never saw many boot legs or sprint outs etc... Just makes me think it was all part of protecting Taylor's high ankle sprain.

Its just a thought with no proof, just my gut feeling
I think you either know some insider scoop "or" you're a very, very lucky at guessing. Or, I should say I sure hope you are as I've heard the basically same thing from two people I trust.

If you're right SreeterCL, I fully agree this year's offense is going to be flat-out nasty. As you say, when he busts a couple warp7 50+ yd TD runs you can bet the ranch opponent DCs are going to compensate in a big, big way. We'll see lots of wide, WIDE open wrs to be sure.

ps....high ankle sprain on one leg, turf toe on the other.....I've been told it takes awhile sometimes for those two types to come around.

I didn't know that we were throwing out credentials here. But since you started I will say that I have been a coach at the collegiate level and the high school level. I actually like bo pelini as a coach. But let's remember that this is the first time he has ever been a head coach. We did overuse Rex Burkhead last year. And by overusing Rex we lost a future running back in our program. As far as the quarterback position is concerned, I'm just asking questions. I'm just wondering what is his thinking. And I'm wondering if anyone else is thinking the same thing that I'm thinking.

Just think, in 07 we could only get I Bleed Red and his playing credentials to post on this board. Now we're getting coaches! Progress!

Absolutely! True-blue cfb coaches who just can't understand why one qb plays a lot more than the other. It just doesn't get any better!

Why is there need for personal attacks? (awaits personal attack)
LOL. I was thinking the same thing. I guess if you dont have at least 2000+ posts, and you try to fit in a conversation, you're just an idiot?
It has nothing to do with post count whatsoever. I'm just so sick & tired of people trashing our qb endlessly. "Carnes should be our stater", "Tmart s*cks", "Carnes would be starting but he's in Bo's doghouse", "Tmart isn't a real qb" etc, etc x 10,000.

Why it's perfectly ok to attack our own players but not internet posters is just over my head.

I think Bo & Beck know a little something about cfb. They're at every practice and there's a good chance they just might know who our best qb is.

Well, you can rip him for the Wisconsin game to your heart's content. However, you just might want to consider that Beck himself said he blew it on that one.

But after that one game in the Big10, Tmart threw a whole "two" interceptions vs the other seven Big10 teams. One of those "two" interceptions was a Hail Mary with 2 seconds left in the 1st half vs the Buckeyes so we're really talking "one" real interception.

Anyway, for the final seven Big10 games Tmart was 108 for 165 (65%) for 1150 yds with 8 TDs & 2 interceptions. Joe Montana? Nope. But not nearly as horrible as so many project and five of those were vs some damn fine defenses (Iowa, Michigan State, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State). Then consider what his numbers would be if our wrs hadn't dropped passes all over the place?

You know, winning games isn't all on our qb. Our Oline was inconsistent as best, our wrs dropped passes everywhere and our defense had problems in River City. We had way, WAYYY bigger problems than our qb last year.

Maybe he is in "The Dog House". Maybe Bo is tired of Brion's cousin Tommie ripping the program. Just kidding. Last I heard and it has already been stated. Brion is having to much trouble with the playbook and defensive reads.

This.....

Beat me to it.

Wasn't Brion like the 4th QB we went after that year??? The West. Kentucky thing is valid, only BCS school to offer was DONU and don't pretend that didn't have a lot to do with his cousin.

He is another example of a film reel star that is never going to play. He is MUCH worse than Cody Green right now, think about that for a second and that should answer your question.

Watch the first 28 minutes of this game. We are a really good team, just a few things need fixing. One of those things is Taylor's mechanics. He was pretty dang effective throwing the ball against a really fast defense, and we have heard a lot about how much better he is this year. A few more areas that need improved:

-O-Line play. Not bad last year but needs to keep getting better.

-D-Line play. No more paddy-cake. Attack, get in the backfield, and wreak havoc.

-Secondary play. We need to lock it down in the secondary. After Dennard got ejected vs. SC, we imploded big time, so he will be missed.

-Lavonte will be missed. Absolutely incredible player, and he is by far the biggest loss from last year (doesn't even need to be said). Let's hope that Compton has a big year and Whaley, Zaire, Santos, Rose, etc. find a groove at LB. Either that or play nickel all year because there suddenly seems to be lots of depth at secondary.

I honestly thought NEB had the game in the bag after the 1st half. I was like, "We are running all over a top 5 ranked defense! The Huskers got this game!" Then....penalties by the Huskers and big plays by the Gamecocks broke the Huskers spirits and the team imploded....The team this year HAS TONS OF POTENTIAL. We may have quite the exciting season on our hands.

It makes no sense at all to argue that Carnes should be given a start. The only thing worth debating is why he doesn't get any time in our runaway victories, or defeats. Only 2 pass attempts last year? Burkhead had that many last year. If he really is number two then he absolutely needs to see more game time in case Taylor goes down.

+1

Regarding the topic...Carnes won't be the #2 this year IMO.

Everyone keeps making this about brion carnes. I never once said that he is better. I'm just saying with the mediocre effort that we have gotten from the quarterback position that maybe we should look at other options. We are not able to use all of our weapons because we can't throw screen passes of any kind.

I am not a Tim Beck fan. But I am a Bo Pelini fan. Never once did I say that they don't know anything about football. Never once did I say that BC should be the starting quarterback. yes I am aware that I am not at practice every day and the coaching staff is. Moving forward if we don't bring in better quarterbacks that can produce at a higher level we will never be at a championship level.

Would it be at all possible to see how Taylor does this year before we jump off this proverbial cliff? I mean I know it is impossible for a player to improve with experience and consistent coaching and all, but maybe we could just let his play speak???
