  1. I wish the O-line would play angry. It seems like the receivers take more pride in getting pancakes than the line does. Decent talent so far but I would love to see us be able to ram it down some poor teams throat. When they have the momentum nothing kills it like a nice 15 play drive for 70 yards and a few points. When the defense puts 9 in the box and your running back still goes untouched for 2-3 yards you can run whatever you want all day long and look like a genius. But that only happens if the o-line has a chip on its shoulder. Fixing the defense(read aggressiveness) would be nice but without better o-line play they are still on the field 70% of the game. I will go to my grave believing that we wasted 2009 and the best defense in decades for that very reason.

  2. Awful tired of this comment. Its not the talent level its the fault of the system. The way the state of Nebraska sets up their athletics from PeeWee to High School. The talent is here, just not in force. Gayle Sayers, Johnny Rodgers, Eric Crouch, Bob Gibson need I go on. The population base is very prohibitive, do you think Texas would be a great hot bed of talent if it had 1.4 million people? You make it sound like "if you are born in Nebraska, you have a sporting handicap, just can't play with the big boys" and that is simply not true.

And only one of those players has been in college in the last 40 years (although, to be fair, you could add Ahman Green and probably others). I'm curious how you can blame the system? Obviously we don't have a system like Texas where they pretty much play football year-round but that can't explain all of it. There are a lot more programs in place now than 30 years ago but there are still fewer elite athletes in the state (IMO). You see the same thing in basketball. I would say the main problems are lack of population and too many other things going on.

    1. Population density definitely plays a big part. "One in a million" athletes are literally that.

    2. You can blame the system because kids coming out of Texas, etc. are ranked higher because they are more polished. Playing year-round tends to do that. The talent may be there but it is tougher(and more time consuming) to develop potential than fine tune someone that is close to their limit. Which makes it hurt all the more when you miss on a recruit but it takes you three years to figure it out. And I have never seen anyone get another star because they are "raw".

    3. I would blame Al Gore. He did invent the internet after all. I think the biggest thing that has changed is the exposure level of the athletes. Between ESPN making CFB huge business, All-American games, and goofballs on message boards no wonder three star kids are getting 15-20 offers(Not that they don't deserve them!) instead of the 5-10 a few years back. Scouting services and combines only add fuel to the fire. That leads to us losing kids like Reiff(SP?) and the stud Iowa corner who's name escapes me at the moment that used to walk on and do great things for us.

Fortunately, the talent is there. Unfortunately, the word is out and the pickings were pretty slim to begin with...

  3. Was seen watching Friday's practice on his official.

I hope he liked what he saw.

This is why I love recruiting season. Most of us are already missing football so much that reports about someone standing around and watching someone else is actually news. I guess the little things really do help get you through!

  4. 07 5* recruit. A lot of promise.

    08 redshirt

09 ruptured tendon in knee during WSU garbage time, out for season.

    10 tore ACL

    11 Fumbleitis.

I really hope he has a chance to do well at KU.

Would he be a jumior next year?

No I'm pretty sure the NCAA holds fast to the '4 years and 5 to use them.' His 2010 injury came in week 8 I think.

You can apply for a sixth year but they don't hand them out very often. Case Keenum is in his sixth year at this point. The main emphasis seems to be on academics. Anyone know what his GPA is?

  5. Dude, you should read the article you posted.

It says right there IT'S NOT ALL THAT UNUSUAL TO GET THIS WAIVER.

You are absolutely right. It does say that. Anything I read from ESPN is take with a grain of salt. So my intent was to bounce the idea off people that don't work for ESPN to test the waters. I should have been clearer. The intent was not to rabble rouse. Sorry for the confusion.

  6. Is this common or am I blowing it out of proportion?

Well you certainly seem to be confused, Frank Solich coaches Ohio.

    .

This is listed (now) in the B1G forum so I didn't expect much confusion...

That being said, I have never been able to accept any time someone/thing demands that 'the' be put in their name . It always came off as pretentious. Especially when you have six campuses.

But hey, 'Ohio' is still more than you ever got out of Schembechler.. :-)

  7. An article on the espn site pointed something that I have never heard of before. It's a short read. http://espn.go.com/b...n/post?id=41105

How in the heck did Ohio manage to get permission for two coaching groups? One can only coach and one can only recruit.

    Two thoughts come to mind:

    1. The thought of Ohio having 7 dedicated recruiters and putting Urban Meyer at the head of the list scares the bejesus out of me.

    2. Having an entire staff around every day to get the team ready for the bowl game has to be a huge advantage. Right?

Is this common or am I blowing it out of proportion?

  8. Yes, it is inevitable, his human form will eventually shut down and perish.

    Not true!

Tom Osborne will never die. My theory, based on current pictures and Badgerfan intel (which is so new even HE is unaware of it) is that TO has simply become Death. Bo could be in the same spot years from now. And if TO is STILL not ready to step down then Bo could cut his teeth as a minion for a few more years. Could be worse. Everyone says how they like seeing Bo in black anyway!

  9. DAMN

I'm not gonna begrudge him going to his dream team

Then I will do it for you. Boo LSU! Besides, I hear they feed bench warmers to the mascot. And just because I made that up doesn't mean that it isn't true! :ahhhhhhhh

  10. In 2005 I sat in the student section up there(by myself mind you). The girl who sat in front of me storms into the stadium mad at the loss from the year before. She gets to her seat and the first thing she does is turn around and flips me off(her had maybe a foot away from my face).

I found it hilarious. EDIT: Oh, and I didn't say anything.

Maybe I'm weird though. I can see how some could find it really offense but it doesn't bother me.

What made it funny was that you had the win from last year. I would have found it funny too!

We don't really have much history with anybody in the B1G yet, save a few games here and there. Fans giving other fans grief is just part of it and I understand that. But, to me, it just doesn't feel like we have done anything to deserve it yet. That's probably why it seems unjustified to some folks. Give it time, give it time...

  11. Tommy led #1 Cibolo Steele to a 28-6 victory over #2 Brandeis on Thursday evening in the second round of Texas State playoffs.

Very much looking forward to having him in Red!

Are the brackets regional? How in the heck does #1 play #2 in the second round? I'm assuming it is more than a 4-team playoff down there.

  12. First, DVR.

Second, go to the funeral. We all got a reminder last week about where football is supposed to rank in life. However, make a huge ass out of yourself if anyone starts mentioning scores in some way.

Third, run straight home and watch it. If you skip commercials and halftime you will almost be caught up by the end of the actual game. chuckleshuffle

This is my general strategy when the girlfriend has made plans on a Saturday. After enough embarrassing episodes, she caved. Saturdays are now referred to as "Man-Cave Day" and I couldn't be happier. Suck on that flea market!

  13. I was just wondering about air traveling time. Question: Take off departure in the crack of the morning or afternoon or night? I assume day before Saturday kickoff time.

How about Lincoln to Iowa City trip (next year). Bus or air?

It is sad to see what happens when the OU side goes unchecked for too long...
