As a Nebraska fan I find it irritating when fans are down on Nebraska. No matter the season, no matter the level of talent, no matter what I think the football teams realistic capabilities are and despite how I might express that to others, when I sit down to watch a game I expect Nebraska to win it. No matter the fo. Call me unrealistic, call me a homer, call me delusional I still expect perfection. I think it's fine to have expectations of greatness every season. This is after all Nebraska and we should expect nothing less than the best every season.

 

Expectations I have for every season.

 

Win Every game.

Win the Conference Championship

Win the actual National Championship (not the mythical one)

A minimum of 1 all American team member.

A minimum of 3 all conference team members.

Humiliation of rivals and their fans.

 

Some of you may think this is too much to ask but like Steve Pedersen falsely claimed, I actually do refuse to accept mediocrity. So I'm never " happy" with a nine win season. I will admit it better than an 8 win season, but the only true happiness is winning them all.

You be drinking the red Kool-Aid, that's for sure brotha.

 

That's quite a list. Have all these things ever actually happened for a Husker team before? Certainly not in my lifetime. Even the mighty '94 Huskers almost suffered a home loss to Wyoming of all teams. Ended up winnign by 10. And the '95 squad--maybe the best football team of all time--got a bit of a scare from Washington St. We didn't exactly humiliate those two mediocre teams.

Actually he said humiliate rivals and their fans. Neither of the two games you mentioned were against a rival.

Huge pickup!!! Hopefully he comes to Nebraska, if not, still wish him the best.

Norris pitcher Byron Hood committed to the Huskers. He is a 2014 prospect and throws in the upper 80's. Looks like another decent ball player for Erstad and company.

He has a good friend and teammate by the name of Jackson Reetz. Supposedly he is the higher rated prospect and will be looked at by many other colleges and possibly scouts. Can't hurt to have Byron in his ear for the next couple years.

As many had suspected, it's official, going to USC

Rivals is reporting Dalton Moats, a left-handed pitcher, from Park Hill, MO has committed. Throws a 85-86 mph fastball and has hit 88 mph. He is the 9th overall commit for 2013.

Sounds like Nebraska and USC are looking at him as an H-Back type player, while the rest are looking at him on the defensive side.

I would assume this is mainly due to the depth chart. The kid wants to play as soon as possible. Look at Nebraska's depth chart and Armstrong will be coming in this year. Look at the Illinois depth chart and there isn't a QB recruit coming in this year. This is just my opinion and I'm sure location had some to play into this as well. Good luck to him!

Just curious, when is the last time we have had a 4-year starter at any position aside from specialist? One doesn't immediately come to mind for me.

I thought Ralph Brown started as a true freshman through his senior year. I could be wrong though.

I guess it all depends what you call mediocre. If you base it off of past history then yes the football programs is mediocre in its current state. The baseball program could probably be considered that as well. The basketball program has never been very good, even at its best. The wrestling progam is currently 8th in the nation, I don't see that as being mediocre. The men's gymnastics team is 9th nationally. The men's indoor track and field is 19th in the nation and was right there (if they caught a couple breaks) to win the Big Ten indoor title.

So I think your assessment of the men's programs is not very good. The football program is better now than several years ago. The baseball program is going through some changes and is too early to assess accurately. The basketball program is the only program that needs some major work, in my opinion. The other programs seem to be competing at a very high level.

Because he committed to Nebraska

Thank you all for the welcome, with the much discussion to my first post. I do hope that the reason I didn't see much improvement in Martinez is because of the schedule and the offensive line. He was probably playing tougher defenses as well that attributed to it. I guess I just see too many misreads while running the ball. He also does not run the ball with authority. I don't expect him to run people over but he does not take a hit well. A QB for a running football team, should know how to take a hit or he will end up hurt. He was a sophmore, so lack of experience in the coming year can no longer be an excuse. Like I said, I hope he proves me wrong, as I originally believed in him as much as anyone.

The point that the team has a mental problem or block is very interesting to me. It does seem that at times in games it just completely falls apart. This can happen to any team, but it does seem to happen more to this team.

As many have said before me, long time lurker, first time poster.

I have been drinking the Red Kool-Aid for as long as I can possibly remember. I grew up in a small town in central Nebraska. My brothers and I would ride the bus from Grand Island to Lincoln to attend games when we were in our early teens. I doubt parents would allow any of their kids to do this today. The first game I truly remember was when we played Arizona St in '94. The first play of the game was a long run for a touchdown around the left side. An image that is forever imprinted in my mind. I have attended at least one game every year since that time, but never as many as I would like.

My feelings on the current the state of the program is that we seem to be an above-average team. I do feel Bo is the right man for the job. I believe he is making necessary changes as they arise, however, I feel we should have went after some differnt position coaches then we have. I am not the coach and so I will continue to trust Bo's process. The one area that really concerns me is QB play. I have been a supporter of Taylor Martinez this whole time. I am now believing he is not the man for the job. The largest improvement should be from year 1 to year 2. I did not see that large of improvement and this makes me believe he is not the man for the job. I truly hope he proves me wrong and develops into what many of us felt, in the beginning, he could be. The top teams in the Big Ten have very good QBs and this is the main area, I feel, that is keeping us from being a great team.
