  1. I was thinking the same thing. Maybe I should go to the Penn State site and start stirring up things. Plenty of stuff that could be brought up there. I'm sorry I'm tired of programs in this conference accepting bullsh#t mediocrity. Coaches are the number one reason why we are behind other conferences, yet certain teams like to either hang on to conservative coaches hanging on to play books from the 80s or hire crap coaches that no other major P5 team would have even considered. I want to play against the best so we can be the best. I don't know wtf happened to Nebraska fans to make them accept this crap, but these are not the Nebraska fans I know. The Nebraska fans I know would be demanding excellence. Not rolling over and going "Oh well" I have to admit that I was crapping bricks when I first heard the news about Mike Riley, but at that time, I knew nothing about him other than his win-loss record for the past few years. After reading up about the man, I'm optimistic. I'll give SE the benefit of the doubt and assume that he knows what he's doing. I'm not accepting "crap" by thinking that this might be a good hire. I've seen several "splash hires" go to other schools and fail miserably. I don't think a fan base that is unhappy with 9-3 seasons is one that accepts mediocrity. We do demand excellence. 9-3 doesn't sound bad, but there was no indication that it was ever going to be any better. You can't win championships every year, but it's nice to have a good shot and win a few. He hasn't shown what it takes to do better than what Bo did

And probably the worst Michigan team in half a century. You mean bullsh#t mediocrity like that? Your credibility is mighty thin, sir. Good day! I'm sure when Nick Saban went 6-6 in his first year at Alabama and lost to ULM it meant they weren't trying either.
  3. Given the uniform support for Mike Riley from across the college football community, this would make us look like the stupidest rubes on Earth. June Jones was uniformly respected too... Also other coaches aren't going to put down Riley because he's a good guy. ESPN is monetarily invested in seeing the B1G fail. Of course people are saying good things about him.

  5. Thanks man. It's going to take some time and hard work, but we will get there. My only concern is our offensive staff, but our DC is a genius.
  6. I don't understand I guess. It's like voluntarily asking for crippling sanctions.
  7. Something so incredibly idiotic that it was almost beyond comprehension. "Hey, Pearlman, you need to fire your AD and the brand new coach he just hired because a message board doesnt like it and we want you to go hire a coach who didnt have any interest in this role" Arizona State has performed better because they did that.
  8. Uh. If it's so easy, why don't unranked crappy schools rattle off upset wins all the time? Oregon State did it a bit too consistently to be considered a fluke... Little bit more to that soup than just broth if ya get what I'm sayin'. 8 top 25 wins in the past 8 years? They were known as giant killers for a reason. Indiana beat Missouri... Should you hire Kevin Wilson? Florida best Georgia, how about Muschamp? There's a reason on any given Saturday a team can win. Mike Riley had some upsets. That's fine. What the sunshine pumpers fail to discuss is what about losing to FCS Eastern Washington last year? Or FCS Sacramento State the year before? He even struggled against Portland State this year. The point being that Mike Riley is not an improvement over Bo. At BEST you're going to see the same results. More likely you're going to be 7-5 with a few upsets and a few horrendous losses.
  9. Auburn hired Chisik after a horrible record at ISU didnt they? Then he won an NC. Was Malzhan a big hire? I dont remember on himMalzahn was the OC at Auburn when they won the NC. He left right after that and they progressively got much worse. He gets hired as head coach and they immediately became much better. So, what you are saying is that coordinators are just as important if not more important than the head coach? Why don't you just sit back and relax for a while until the staff is announced. Hasn't it been said he's probably bringing his awful DC?
  10. Exactly this. This hire is pretty much ensuring embarrassing results for the conference. Edited, we're not going to be bringing up this crap again-BRI If this is your attitude then you guys deserve the losing records you're about to get.
  11. All I see is "he's such a nice guy" and "he's such a great guy" If that's what you want, then congrats because you have a Ty Willingham and Brady Hoke redux
  12. Everyone said Ty Willingham was a great hire because he was such a nice guy too. We beat Oregon State 45-14 a few years ago. If you think the B1G teams are scared of playing him, then you're kidding yourself. And this year you lost to Northwestern and Illinois... We are making the effort to become much better. Nebraska is not making the effort to become better with this hire.

  15. This attitude just doesn't make sense to me. All of the signs are there that this is a horrible hire. Yes he's a nice guy and it would suck to pull his offer, but Shawn Eichorst is the one who put everyone into this mess, not Riley.
  16. When? When Alabama hired Mike Shula? I think things have changed a bit since then.
  17. Exactly this. This hire is pretty much ensuring embarrassing results for the conference.
  18. I mean if you guys want a repeat of the Callahan Era, no one is going to stop you.
  19. No, you don't. If you guys wanted a nice guy regardless of success, you might as well hire Ty Willingham.
  20. So I really like you guys. I lived in Omaha for fourteen months for a job at Offutt, and I really loved talking football with Husker fans and the area as a whole. That said, this is one of the worst hires I have ever seen. The B1G needs to get better. Hiring Mike Riley who has been losing to FCS teams after multiple years at Oregon State is not the answer. People say that Oregon State has lived in Oregon's shadow, but they aren't paying attention to all of history. Before Chip Kelly got there and before Mike Belotti changed schemes, Oregon was middling and Oregon State was on top of the football world in the state including being Co-champions of the Pac 10 with USC. At that moment Mike Riley had a chance to secure the future of Oregon State Football, and he failed. Miserably. Mike Riley's MO is basically lose to some crap teams in nonconference at the beginning of the year, then have a few upsets during the season of top teams. You've basically traded a coach that went 9-4 winning no big games to going 7-5 and winning one or two. That said, take a cue from Arizona State fans when they tried to hire June Jones (who arguably looked like a better hire then than Mike Riley does now). They started cancelling season tickets, demanding the hire be annulled, and threatening the AD's job. You need to do the same. Start calling now, start demanding that he be fired, and get yourselves a better coach. Arizona State did and look where they are now... and look what happened to June Jones. The B1G needs you guys to be great. I want a great Nebraska team. I don't want a Nebraska that thinks making crap hires that you would expect Kansas to make. Please please fix this.
  21. What were the fans in the stands chanting they wanted after that touchdown?
  22. I think the most alarming part is how your defense over the course of Bo's tenure improved for the first few years, but has degraded horrendously since then. That's really the killer. I didn't even realize it had been 6 years. I'm pretty certain that's enough time to rebuild Nebraska football from the Callahan accident. That third quarter was a killer. I was so excited to see how well Nebraska was playing in the first half... but a third quarter like that is a killer... not just to that game by itself...but to team morale. I mean it's a true poison...you get ahead so far and then collapse. That gets in the heads of the kids out there... just ask Texas A&M from two years ago. Thanks, and exactly.
  23. So as a PSU fan who used to live in Nebraska... I am one who truly appreciate what Nebraska football is and I cheer for you guys in every game except against PSU. I thought when Nebraska hired Bo that you guys had hired a game-changing coach who would do amazing things for you guys. He was an exceptional DC at a national championship school, and one would have expected that you would have the Blackshirts back. Oops. This game today is a pretty good representative for Bo Pelini's tenure at Nebraska. It started off well and Nebraska looked really good...and the improvement on defense was amazing. Then everything fell apart. If you guys end up being crushed by a large margin after leading by 18 points late in the second...which is what looks like is going to happen... I'm afraid it's time to lay down the law and get rid of Bo and the entire top staff of the Nebraska football time. This isn't a knee jerk reaction...this is just a simple realization that Nebraska has pretty much gone as far as it can go under Bo Pelini...which is to say that it's an okay football team but not great. If Bo... who was such a great DC at LSU... can't rebuild the Blackshirts with as much talent as Nebraska can get... how is one supposed to expect him to go any further? I honestly don't think he is... and when Taylor Martinez leaves.... well, offensive productively will likely go down a good bit. The state of Nebraska...The B1G... and honestly college football as a whole is better when Nebraska is a good, strong football team. Not when it's as impressive as a wet noodle. I know some will disagree with this opinion, and that's fine...but ask yourselves what you want out of Nebraska football. Ask yourself what you want a Nebraska football team to look like. Does that include a defense that gives up 28 points in one quarter? An offense that just ceases being productive due to lack of creativity? Do what's right. Get rid of Bo, etc. now, state that you want to take Nebraska football in a different direction, and start rebuilding and looking for who is the right person to take over this program.
  24. Really, though? The graphic showing how your D was the best in the nation in 2009 and 9th last year should show that he is capable of coaching great defenses. There is clearly something about THIS particulate D that isn't gelling for some reson. I could understand getting rid of him if he just blew chunks across the board, but shouldnt you give him time to fix whatever is wrong?
