Is there uber in Lincoln yet? In today's world there's no reason to you should ever be in this position.

Yes, the problem is surge-pricing. 10-15 min. rides that may cost $10 at 2:00 p.m. cost $80 at 2:00 a.m. So, it's not the most reasonable option, even though it is certainly (and obviously) better than getting a DUI.
There is Happy Cab which is a free cab service for UNL students.

Similarly to Uber's surge-pricing woes, Happy Cab is only a free, accessible service for UNL students when one is available. At 2:00 a.m., when this incident occurred, it was (likely) near impossible to get a cab in downtown Lincoln.

I don't say any of that to excuse his actions. My point is that someone who has lived in Lincoln for as long as he has should know that he either a) shouldn't drive after drinking or b) have a DD on standby, particularly someone in his position.

On the same line. Reilly could have walked into any bar in Lincoln raised his hand & yelled "I'm Brandon Reilly Who wants to take me home". I'm sure a bunch of girls would have taken him up & maybe even a few creepy dudes.

  2. We have 3 Sr's Westercamp, Moore, Reilly

Returning after this season we have 7 with only 1 Sr in DPE

    Pierson El

    Morgan Jr

    Alston

    Darlington

    Spielman

    Grim

    Keyan Williams

There is a really good chance DPE will get another year as well.

Ms. Karma really needs to smile on the Huskers this next season after the year we had in 2015. If not she will be living up to her nickname

I think we've been waiting for Ms. Karma to shine on us since 2001.

I've always thought Ms. Karma has been shining on us since 2001, when we backed into a NC game we had no business being in, and had 15 years of bad luck as a result.

That means it is over then right?

  4. I would really expect to be at 9-10 wins. So much of the season is going to be on TA's shoulders. He needs to make better reads & better throws this year.

The truth is if Riley puts together a really good class like I think he will this year. He will get to year three no matter what his record is this year. To be fair he desirves the time to get his guys in place to see if he is going to work out.

  5.

Good for him. For as "bad" as our LB coaching was we might have 3 starting LB'S in the NFL. David, comp, and ZA (hopefully)

Oh stop it. David was outstanding in college, Compton was solid and Zaire had some strong moments. All had the upside to get to the stage they are at. Just needed further development and yes, probably a little better coaching.

Man, how many people have talked about how much they've learned under Bray already compared to previous staff?

I would guess a lot has to do with the scheme change, but a few players & a father have stated how much they really like Bray.

  6. Lets be honest about the whole thing. Concussions can be a very scary thing & research is showing there can be so long term effects from just one concussion. The problem is thought the NFL & NCAA real doesn't care about the concussions they care about viewers & their wallets. If they really cared about all players they would not allow any players to dive head first to gain extra yards, or allow RB's to drop their heads to deliver a blow to a defensive player. If they really wanted to protect the QB's from big hits they would not allow them to slide at the last moment, they would also put out warnings to them about how ducking hits or dropping their heads creates a lot of problems & puts them in danger.

  7. It's been a hell of a nightmare for Canes fans these past 10 years.

With Richt, the glory days are returning!!

I really see him being similair to Bo Pelini, but without the whole d-bag attitude. 9-10 win seasons, will win a few against good teams & will lose a couple he shouldn't.

  8. I'm in the wait and see on the hire (I can see the upside though), but I don't think he can be any worse than Hughes. My only wish was that we had pulled the trigger earlier, and perhaps had kept VV and maybe landed a DT in the class.

I think the reasons you stated are the reasons hes no longer here. Had Hughes got VV to stay & pulled in a good recurit or two we would probably not be having this conversation.

  9. If he is in fact transferring, I wish him the best and hope he finds a school that can best utilize his skills. Good luck AJ!

(P.S., does anyone think ZDar will ever see the field?)

He looked like the best QB in the Spring last year. I know its just spring ball, but he looked to be able to read a defense light years beyond any other QB we had. My guess is he doesn't see the field as he does not have the arm strength the others have to throw the deep ball. I think we will see one more year of Tommy followed by O'Brian vs Gebbia.

Dang it! I missed who S&B said just recently but apparently they let the name slip on air. Sounds like announcement could be made today.

Angus McClure is who I thought Sharpe mentioned quickly on air this morning. Would be a great hire IMO if true.

EDIT - will need to go back through the podcasts, 2nd or 3rd segment to be sure but that is who I thought I heard him say.

Interesting! I don't remember this guy at all but he's got a few ties to Nebraska apparently. Was an assistant for Callahan for two years, and was also the offensive line coach and run game coordinator for Turner Gill at Buffalo. Here's some more of his bio from UCLA's site:

Angus McClure has over 20 years of coaching experience and is entering his ninth season as a member of the Bruin staff. In 2012, he began coaching the defensive line, having previously coached tight ends, offensive line and special teams since arriving in Westwood in 2007. Angus continues in his role as the Recruiting Coordinator. Over the past eight years, McClure has also led the recruiting effort which has resulted in Bruin classes being ranked among the nation's top 20 in each year. In 2013-14, he was named among the Top 25 Recruiters in College Football by Rivals. In addition, UCLA has had a defensive lineman selected in six of the past eight NFL drafts.

Seems like a fantastic hire if true, but are we putting all of our eggs into the California basket?

Not a bad basket to be in. Having said that, this coaching staff showed plenty of ability to adapt to recruiting in the 500 mile radius, an area they hadn't had much experience in before....

They pretty much whiffed on everyone in that 500 mile radius they went after. The ones that signed were recruited hard or committed to Bo's staff. The high school relations guy sucked, was an arrogant A hole and told the coaches at the coaching clinic he didn't intend to recruit Nebraska much. He was so bad and screwed up so much they announced today he was reassigned. Going forward Kenny Wilhite has that role and he will excel at it.

    That's just not accurate.

Farniok- Was far from locked up by Pelini. That was most definitely a recruiting win in the radius for 2016.

    '

Bryant- Wasn't even offered by the Pelini staff

    Wilson- Wasn't offered by Pelini.

    Stoll- No Pelini offer.

Domann- All Riley & staff there.

As for the lineman who were already committed (Raridon, Brokop). You act as if it's easy to keep kids committed in the middle of a coaching change. Did Pelini have them on the radar? Sure. Still a nice job by this coaching staff to keep them interested, and committed.

Missing on a couple key prospects late, is for from "whiffing on everyone" in the area, and those two kids from Kansas are probably going to Clemson whether it was Pelini or Riley in charge.....

Both Fant and Bubak were coming to NU until this staff messed it up. You seemed to miss out on them in your mentions. So no biggie we let the best two kids leave because we wouldn't call them back.

    Ummmmm.........that's a total whifffff????

Bubak was off as soon as Riley got Jack Stoll. Hughes missed on Fant & Riley tried to mend that, but in the end NU wanted Fant as a DE & Fant wanted to play TE. Fant also turned into a Drama Queen at the end of the process. I wasn't to disapointed when he chose Iowa. I would rather take a guy like Englehaupt who will do anything to help NU & has no doubts about where he wants to play football.

  11.

LJS Steve Sipple offers his best guess and candidates.

Angus McClure, former NU grad assistant

    Chris Kiffin, son of Monte

Ex - Husker defensive lineman John Parrella

    Ex-Husker defensive tackle Steve Warren

    Nebraska graduate assistant Tavita Thompson

Angus McClure and Chris Kiffin come with the added benefit of being recruiting coordinators for UCLA and Ole Miss, respectively. Should help with any recruits we're going head-to-head with those schools for.

For the life of me, I can't remember who serves in that capacity now for Nebraska.... Can someone help me out?

I may be wrong but I believe since Bruce Read does not recruit it allows Andy Vaughn to be our recruiting coordinator as well as be able to personally meet with and recruit players when they are on campus.

I think they did something like that for Barney Cotton

  12.

My first thought here was: cool. Can Nebraska do something like that?

    Thought the same thing.

We should do one every year, rotate the sites between California, Texas, Alabama and Ohio. If you're gonna do it, do it big.

I would love to see one go to Hawaii. There is a lot of really good Samoan football players. It would also have a good selling point to recruits.

  13.

Who is that a picture of?

    Tavita Thompson

He's the TE coach. What does he know of coaching DL? Or do we shift some coaching responsibilties around?

Thompson coached at Pacific University in 2011, serving as the team’s defensive line coach

    Good find. Thanks.

1 season as D-Line coach is not really the guy I would strive for.
