  1. Marijuana, alcohol, what ever.  I'm kind of one that feels 'what ever floats your boat and doesn't hurt me" is fine.  BUT...I do believe in rules.  This whole thing boils down to rules, and whether a kid follows them or chooses to not follow them.  They are kids.  Let the law give them the first penalty, fine or what ever.  Lecture them sternly and let them know just one more infraction and there will be no discussion.  You are off the team for a year.  Third infraction, you are gone for good.  Hate to make a pun, but this is the kind of problem that Frost needs to nip in the 'bud'.

I’ve had three diagnosed ones, a couple others that were definitely concussions.

It’s hard to say if the concussions had as much to do with it or the blunt trauma from the collision of my last diagnosed one (4.5 years ago); but I’ve definitely had a dip in brain function. Basic math is often difficult, I have a far more limited vocabulary, my eyes lose focus semi-regularly, and my memory is significantly worse.

Was that from the crash on the sidelines?  I was just up in the stands from where that happened.. That was as hard as most any hit I've seen on the field.

I have a suspicion that this is the "culture" Frost is trying to instill.  No matter how good an opponent, getting punched in the mouth every play, from every position gets old.....And starts to get into your head.

,I don't care much for Mike Tyson...but he has one of my all-time favorite quotes:  "Everybody got a plan till they get punched in the face."  And that was part of the 90s dominant teams.  You'd see good teams come to play the Huskers and the Huskers would just physically abuse them every play, to the point where they'd start to back off.  If you go watch replays, you'll see running backs going to the ground right before the LB would close for the hit, D-Linemen playing patty cake with our O-line rather than getting greased.  Players from that time will even attest to that.  Hope against hope Frost can re-instill that.  But it does take the talent to pull that off as well.

  4. Stanley and Devine not getting drafted is all about the previous coaching staff and nothing to do with their skills.  I feel really badly for them.  Imagine where they'd go in the draft with 2-3 years in Frost's system.  Really sad.

On a different level...NO one drafted?  Makes even 4-8 look like a miracle!

What are the repercussions of fans talking about potential Heisman candidates? Do they come down with leprosy? Let me know so I can make an informed decision on whether to listen to you or not.

I’ve decided to be adventurous and keep talking about it until you give me an answer on whether it’s safe to do so.

Martinez is 3rd in the entire country in returning total offense. He was 12th last year but 9 of those players were seniors, graduated early, or got injured (Milton). He’s going to get talked about for Heisman, nationally and locally, whether it makes you uncomfortable or not. Also, nationally and locally, people noticed our huge improvement in the 2nd half of the season last year, so most think our record is going to be better.

Does anyone remember Wendell Wooten?  Probably not.  He was the next big thing (well before internet days)...they had the catch phrase "There Won't be No Hootin' till there's Wooten".  Sadly, all the hype caused him to come down with leprosy, pleurisy, hypocrisy, pharisee and Sadducee I think, not to mention several other lethal syndromes.  If the internet and chat boards had been around, he probably would not have survived!!!  (Your point is well taken though...)   :-)

  6. Two come to mind.  First one was when Mike Rozier was playing.  He broke a 40+ yard run through half the defense and scored on a fantastic play.  After the wild cheering faded away, I heard one old businessman from Grand Island tell another "Hell, that's worth a B+ in any English class"

Second, we were absolutely demolishing either New Mexico or New Mexico State, like 77 - 7 or such.  They had maybe a dozen fans in the Southwest corner of the stadium and their poor cheerleaders were basically cheering to themselves.  A big group of us crowded the fence in that corner and started doing their cheers with them.  They obviously loved it and it was a real fun time.

  7. Listened to a lot of the presser.  Pretty evident that Bill Moos is a closer, get him some coffee!   No where near the slam dunk a lot of people were claiming it to be.  Once again, Bill played the low key, "when you are ready to talk, we are motivated" role.  I don't care if he has a drink or two with local Huskers....Bill Moos is the real deal in my opinion!!!

  8. I"ll be honest, I hadn't paid much attention to Husker Basketball since they were rocking in the Nee Joint!  Tim Miles renewed my interest in Husker Hoops with his character and attitude.  Obviously he didn't get the needed results on the floor, but he elevated the program and my interest in it.  With this hire, I suspect I"ll be going to games and knowing the names of at least the starting five now.  Pretty darned stoked!  But I have to give Miles his due for sure.

Yeah, good luck to Tim. I really liked him and he did a lot of good things for our traditionally weak b-ball program. He represented the University well and did nothing but help improve the program. Unfortunately he was just unable to get the team competing at an acceptable level. I feel bad that he wasn’t able to lead us further but it was definitely time for a change. I wish him well.

Exactly my feelings and thoughts.   I look forward to a change, but if Miles had been retained, I wouldn't have given it much thought either.  I did like him a lot.

I somewhat agree with this.  It's obviously not nearly as easy to get pancakes now compared to back in the 80s when we were one of only a few teams who actually lifted and had nutrition.  So, expecting your O line to knock people down every play is a little unfair.

But, I see a difference in the zone blocking mentality that you mention where you're redirecting guys.....and expecting them to be pushed two yards back.

I'm no where near an expert, but I wonder if moving a defender a couple of yards back, or left or right isn't more effective in some ways than just knocking him down.  If you can move him two yards away from where he wants to be, you might also be causing congestion that prevents other defensive players from their assignments.  Kind of like battlefield strategy.  If you kill a guy, the other side is minus one guy.  If you wound a guy, the other side loses two to three guys that have to help the wounded one.

You're not wrong, but I'm going to nitpick slightly and add some context to your paragraph there.

Because of scheme (and probably speed at the I-Back position), we averaged more yards per carry. But on 3rd & 1, which team's offensive line you going with last season? I am unashamedly going with Iowa's. And that's one of the reasons we didn't score a proportional amount of points to the yards we racked up.

This is why "getting push" is unarguably really important, and especially in Big 10 play. If we had good push, we could have iced the Northwestern game. And we would have scored more points - at a minimum more field goals - by not having drives get stalled when we got into the opponent's half of the field but then failed on simple 3rd & short plays that got stuffed.

That's where I was going...the +2 will be huge on 3rd and / or 4th down situations.  Can't say how many times I've complained the last 10+ years that we couldn't just line up and get a first down when it was 3rd and 1 or 4th and 1.  Hope that ends.

I think it's going to be incredibly difficult to justify retaining Miles:

    - he finished 12th or worse in five of his seven seasons at Nebraska

    - his record is .500 in those seven seasons

    - in a clear 'make or break it' year, with essentially his most talented roster at Nebraska, they fell apart

The performance evidence is largely against him. If people didn't like Miles as a person, would they be OK with these results? And the upcoming NIT is a very small portion of the overall body of work. Does any result there significantly alter perception?

There's really no excuse for a program with Nebraska's resources and capabilities to have never won a tournament game, and to not make the tournament on a somewhat consistent basis. Is Miles the guy to make that happen? The evidence suggests no.

My thoughts precisely.  I love the Tim Miles persona.   But I doubt Moos is making his decision based on the Big10 tourney, nor the possible NIT appearance.  He has seven years of data on which to base his decision.  I'd like to believe that the decision was made prior to the Big 10 tournament.

He left on Thursday for a game that takes place on Saturday.

He easily could have left today but sure does feel like he booked his flight in advance thinking we would lose day 1.

Its not a good look from Moos.

Well, it does seem like that.  I feel like Moos probably has enough pocket change to cover the cost of changing tickets if that were the case.  And, in an interview, Tim Miles said he completely understands, and that if he had a son playing in a Spring game, he'd definitely want to be there too.

  14. Just curious how many see this game as "the one" that determines Miles' future?  I know from chat I hear, it seems every game has someone saying "If they don't win/do well in this game, I'm done with Tim Miles".  Personally, I still am not going game by game.  I felt that if he didn't get them a tourney win this year, he should be done.  Still feel that way.  Although now, this close to the end, almost every game we play determines if we get in the NCAA at all, so in that aspect, maybe each game is "the one".
