  1. And when a defensive genius (self proclaimed) lets his team consistently give up huge yards and points to the better than average teams you would think he might say hmm..... maybe I need to adjust this scheme to fit my players.

What scheme is suited for slow, weak, soft defensive lineman and linebackers?

That almost made me choke on my pizza...that's just plain funny.

  2. Yes, the lightning in a bottle comparison is best used for our run through the middle of the 90's or something similar, not the span of Devaney and Osborne. The latter makes no sense.

And if you want to believe realistic expectations are to get 8-9 wins each season with even worse performance at times, go right ahead. I'm sure you can find others to wallow in despair with you.

Not saying I necessarily believe that, nor am I wallowing in despair, just asking a question to get other opinions. Both you and Accountability make good points that 40 years is too long for lightning in a bottle...

  3. To give credit where credit is due...someone on another thread brought up the notion of "lightning in a bottle" with respect to Husker football. It didn't get the follow up comments I'd be interesting in seeing. It's a dark thought I've been harboring as well.

Is there a chance that us finding Devaney, then Osborne, combined with that specific period of football evolution were a "perfect storm" where we captured lightning in a bottle for 40 years. And if so, is our realistic expectation to be that it will not occur again...that Nebraska football will be henceforth an 8 - 9 win season with a moderate bowl most years, interspersed with less lofty accomplishments?

  4. I have a feeling this is the day we talk about for the next couple of years. --- Yes....we'll talk about how badly we got whipped...

The day that we have a great defensive scheme planned that shuts down the "mobile quarterback". Not even close!

The day that the offense figures out a combination of run, pass and PA plays that works and sticks to it throughout the game. Nope

The day the O-Line once again starts to become the Pipeline Nope, The goal is to pancake, not to be pancaked...

The day we play a full four quarters of good, solid football. We got part of a quarter..

The day that Bo out coaches one of the biggies The biggest NOPE of the night, just the opposite I'm afraid.

The day we have a big road win. No No No, unless the definition of "winning" has changed..

The day after which we stop "hoping we can win" and start believing we will win...every game' Nope, I'm afraid "Idle" will take us next week and wonder if we get any more wins this year.

The day the Huskers become present in every sports show discussion. Yes...just not in the way I imagined..."How about Ohio State taking care of business in a big way against Nebraska?"

I know I'm a kool-aid drinker, but I think the potential is there for this to be "that" game.

Thought I'd better show up and own up.

    Still love those Huskers though!!!

    !!!!GO BIG RED!!!!

Well, maybe not too. I'm going to need more special "ingredients" for my kool-aid after today...

  6. The odds are in our favor if Nebraska scores more than 30 points. Under Bo Pelini, the Huskers are 11 - 0 when they score more than 30 points.

I'm going to assume you mean 31 points or more, as we lost to UCLA 36-30

Hmmm..he did say "more" than 30 points, so that does exclude the UCLA game as we only scored 30, not more than 30..

Thanks for that stat HuskerCarter..I wasn't aware of that one...

  9. This is the turning point game.

There has been a lot of talk on this board about Bo and his teams not winning a big one on the road, and how he can't coach with the likes of Urban, and how we can't put together a full game and how players don't seem to get up for a game, etc, etc, etc. I've been part of that chatter.

My prediction is that tonight is the game where that all changes.

I think we have four good, back to back quarters in one game. I think Bo and the staff have a solid planned in place to put a hurting on the QB. I think Beck and crew mix the pass and run, figure out what is working and make it happen.

As we win the Big 10 championship, either this year or next year or both, this will be the game everyone points to and says "That was the turning point!"
