  1. I'm pretty simple.  The last few years I've seen teams like LSU, Clemson, Alabama and tOSU put players on the field that look like grown men.  We've put guys on the field that look like big kids in pretty decent shape.  Just looking at pictures and videos, it looks like we've got a few more of the 'grown men' players showing up on the team.  Hope that means something.

Bingo! Machine guns are just the tip of the iceberg. They’re also being trained to work on nuclear submarines and on the decks of aircraft carriers with their fellow crew members relying on them to follow high reliability principles and procedures without fail.

When I went to my son's graduation from Air Force basic training, we had an 'intro' meeting with a couple of officers, basically telling us the expectations they had for our kids.  "You got concerned when you gave them the keys to the family car.  We are going to put them in charge of multimillion dollar aircraft and systems.  We don't worry about them, we don't have time.  So we train them and teach them how to live with expectations."   I was Army way back in the day, and we were as rowdy as any 18, 19 year olds.  But when on duty and it 'mattered', we were absolutely professional, dependable and motivated.

Maybe the team should start an internal organization...or even a club, dare say, to address this.

I mean, it's time these kids should hold each other accountable and start by asking "do you really want to hurt me"? And each mister, man...I bet they would move away like a runaway train and say "yeah, I'll tumble for ya." And when that happens, our karma, chameleon-like, would change instantly.

Hmmmm.  Imagine that.  If only it had happened Yesterday.

We’ve seen this script before, but I am hesitantly  optimistic.

Seems like not to long ago we were hearing about how this coach or that coach made assistant changes last year and how it lead to much better seasons this year.  So I'm excitedly optimistic!

  5. I think it would have been nice to get Burreauxs out of high school.  He'd have still had less than top grade players around him for the nost part, so hard to tell what success he might have brought.

As far as getting him after he transferred out of tOSU, after some thought, I'm glad he didn't end up here.  He seems to be an upgrade from our current QBs, but next fall, we'd be back at square zero.  At least now we have three guys who seem serviceable and should know the system, as well as a top QB recruit coming in.  It just feels that having Burrows here would have been another delay toward true program development,

Final comment...it was truly a fun thing to watch him play this year.  That kid is great, and has a great team around him.

    1. The speed lives down South. It is cold in Nebraska. Lots of players make their decision based on that.

    2. Evaluation of recruits is an inexact science. How many top recruits have bombed out in college?

    3. Chemistry between the coach and the player is very subjective.

    4. Nebraska has never been relevant on the national stage in the lifetime of the recruits. It's like going to Gopher stadium and seeing all the national titles for Minnesota and the first thought is, "Minnesota was a football champion?"

    5. To have a championship football team, you need at least one excellent player and about 5 really good ones. No weak sisters. And must have good special teams with a consistent kicker.

    6. Lack of a diverse female student body to date.

    7. Lincoln is, face it, boring. The only thing to do is drink and not supposed to do that until 21. Weak music scene.

    8. The competition is much stiffer than back in Dr. Tom's day. Now it is Bama, Sooners, LSU, Clemson, Ohio State, Oregon, Notre Dame and others trying to get back like us: Texas, Michigan, FL, FSU, Miami and others.

    9. State has only 1.8m people. Not a lot of job prospects here after graduation.

    10. Program has been cursed since Steve P.  and the fans refuse to perform the Ritual Exorcism to cleanse Husker Nation and rid it of the demons of the failed coaches of the past.

Saying things, even if you really, really believe them, does not make them true.

I went to school in Wildflecken. My older brother and sister went to Fulda. My dad was armor.

Ouch!  Just hearing the name Wildflecken gives me mild frostbite in my toes and fingers.  Understand it is beautiful in the summer, but only went there for training in Jan/Feb.  Anyway, thanks for your service.

Call yourself an idiot if you want, but you are one brave idiot at that.  Well done, and thanks for serving.  When did you serve?

I didn't get the bonus money when I signed.:(

Neither did I, but was offered.  They were giving bonuses for the combat arms (armor, infantry, artillery), but i was signing up to be in commo.  They tried three times to lure me with the $$$$ but I held fast.  That last day in the induction center, I talked with several potential mechanics, radio repair guys and intel guys that took the $$$ and went to combat arms.  I just shook my head.  LOL.

  10. Miami folks are just sure that Nebraska is "dropping bags" to get these recruits.  Hmmmm.

When I was recruited in Nebraska I was offered a lot of things.  An $8000 signing bonus,  all expense paid trip to Europe.  Training in what ever field I chose.  Excellent physical fitness training  and highly directed personnel development programs.
