  1. This team is beginning to remind me alot of the 2001 Trojans or the 1999 Sooners. Both teams were incrediblyt young, hung a lot of games people gave them no chance in, and essentially got zero respect all year. In 01 USC took a tough loss in manhattan to K-State, and a wierd loss to Cal and that was it. Ever since then, they have been in a BCS bowl game. OU was rebuilding that year and lost to UT, but played well after that.

We are young, we are hungry, take away Taylor's two picks and get a touchdown instead of a field goal and Tech is beaten soundly. We are close and I can't see losing again until the Big 12 championship game.

  2. I love being proved wrong.....

God Taylor looked inept out there. HE is without question the streakiest QB ever. Who told him it was OK to eat the ball when the line is collapsing around him. IF the play calls for three quick steps and a pass, it isn;t OK to hold it. That game was so close to negating a career game by ROss and a above average defense it was insane. AT least we know Wannstedt threw everything he could think of at us. But honestly, if Taylor puts another half like that against ISU I would rather see Ganz or Beck

  3. A lot of Husker fans right now ( and for that matter ever since January 3, 1998) have not been happy with any situation the Husker s have gotten themselves into. I was there at Solich's debut, and was there his last game in Lincoln. Two things stand out. His debut against LA tech, Tim Rattay gored the defense for about 380 yards passing. (And that was with St. Charlie McBride) his swan song at MEmorial was a happy little ass whipping, courtesy of KSU, where would-be savior Bo Pelini got exposed.

THe bottom line is this Solich was never universally loved. HE was screwed the minute he took the job and sealed his fate when he drove to Omaha, begged Eric Crouch to come back (!) Way to show who's boss Frankie, the team and staff gradually tuned him out, and our run came to an end.

And for everyone who hates Callahan and wants Solich that, I wish I could take a poll on his popularity when CU and Miami made us look foolish, and the Jammal Lord Expierence put us where we were now. Face it, if SOlich could recruit worth a sh#t, and would have played less favorites, I would have never had to watch Lord run a QB Keeper offense attack, or see coaches race across the field after a blowout to bitch about running the score up on his team. To me, that will always be rock bottom.

Bottom line, I like Callahan, I think he can turn this team around, if given the chance. If he gets canned this year or even two years from now, then we will have only 5 wins a year for awhile. THere is no one out there to take over this job. Urban Meyer is taken, there are no more Patriots coordinators, and while Wannestedt may be availiable after this week, he could be the worst coach in the history of football. ANd most importantly, myopic husker fans.... Osborne ain't coming back.

THis team is slowly improving this year, lets see how it plays out.

  4. The polls the first five weeks into the season are the biggest joke in sports. Seriously, OU has no call to be anywhere in either poll after that abortion against TCU and struggling against Tulsa. But they get the benefit of being grossly overranked and NU gets zero votes for basically being the same team (one that has struggled and showed some brillinace and some inepitude). Meanwhile, every single broadcaster on ESPN is taking a number to get in line for the Notre Dame circle jerk. Zero votes to being #10!? Props for winning in Ann Arbor but seriously....

The first poll should come out after week 6. That way teams like Auburn and Boise State and OU don't have the bias of their preseason rank and teams like ISU and Clemson don't have to fight through percieved badness.

This after one of the best football weekends in years for me. Lately it sucks being a NU alum and a Niner fan, but I was in full myopian mode after the WF game and after the niner/ram game

  5. Uh....the problem was that Cally wanted to run the ball on first and second down...every drive. Way too many 3rd and longs to deal with. I really hoped to see him mix up the play book, I have no idea what he was thinking. \

All right now which one is it? "What's Callahan doing? He passed from the one yard line!" "Callahan always ran it the first two downs!!! BOOOOO" Jeez guys I am not 100% with him but lets give him at least a small chance. #1, he had no timouts with 55 seconds left in the half and the ball. Maybe enough time for one running play at the end. But where? At the front end, you're rushed for time. At the end, now your field goal is compromised by time with a true freshman kicker.

WF is the opponent now. What happens if they hang 35 or soemthing on them and the defense holds true? Of course, they could go screw the pooch for 48 minutes and lose as well. But sitting aroung here and Monday Morning QB'ing this guys choices when the man has probably forgotten more about fotball than most of us could ever know. No matter how many claims that "I" could have coached that team to a 30 point victory.

  6. could not agree more, the crowd has really been lackluster. Being told to sit at the first play of the line of scrimmage is ridiculous. If my fat ass can stand the whole game why can't other people.

I was dissappointed in the game and maybe my expectations are high, but so are my expectations for the crowd. I was there with my friends that all put in at least an 8 hour trip to memorial stadium. I better be allowed to stand and yell, if I want to seet I will stay home with my couch and banana splits.

I would just like to point out that, in addition to nepolo7 expecting alot from his football team, and its crowd. He also expects alot from buffet tables.

Sorry I took your topic Eric

  7. I guess I was not as dissapointed in NU as most here were, after all, a win is a win with this team, and I would like to know what was so promising about the end of last year that gave everyone such high goddamn expectaions this year? Please guys, if you wanted that score to be 63 to whatever, you should have stayed home, cracked a PBR and queued up your PS2, because that was the only place where that was gonna happen.

That leads to this, I sat in perhaps the worst section near the worst NU fans I have ever been around at that game. I was being yelled at to sit down on the first play from scrimmage, and they only stood up for the GODDAMN BAND AT HALFTIME! If only the students are going to get fired up for the game, and then throw it in as a crowd when we aren;t rushing for 310 yards at the half, then a lot more is wrong with this program then the people running it. The horrible crown and my genera shock at seeing how fat some of my friends have gotten were the worst part of it for me.

As for the game, I thought every skill position in general looked better. Except for Ross. Seriously, if the line is going to be that bad, then Ross' bowling ball style running is not going to cut it. Put a slasher like Lucky in there. That guy is so good we are likely only to get 3 years out of him anyway, lets use him. Hardee is crazy fast and has good hands, Taylor throws a good ball. Its been a long time since we;ve had those three tools, give it some more time.
