  1. I don't think we've even begun to realize the magnitude of this situation and the resulting mood at this game on Saturday if they play it. I mean, we all know its a bad deal, but I think the public outcry and pressure and reach of this thing will result in something much bigger than we realize. If you're a State Penn fan, how do you show up and cheer on the team on Saturday amid all of this if you have any sole at all? Just heard Sandusky's son, who works for the Cleveland Browns has taken a leave of absence amid public pressure. I just can't imagine what the scene must be like on campus right now. Hundreds of reporters who go to great lengths to get to a press conference and they are handed a big ole "no comment" statement...not gonna be real happy. I haven't heard of any picketers, but you gotta believe they are multiplying by the second with every "no comment - business as usual" statement that comes out of the school...there will be people demanding answers and accountability.

  2. Just heard Jo Pa canceled their weekly press conference for today. Apparently hundreds of reporters camping out (way more than normal) for it and the school just pulled the plug on it. Local sports radio here speculating that PSU may cancel all remaining games starting this weekend. I doubt that it will happen as I think it is the State Penn's last home game of the year and I think Jo Pa's last home game ever. But I guess it's possible...public outrage has been VERY intense and deservedly so.

  3. You know I commented on your calling a post of mine DUMB , and later said I may have been a little heavy handed. However after reading this , I take it back. Everything I said about your trolling was correct , and this is even worse. I wont call you any names , no I wont go there ; however I will repeat one thing. I guess the good folks of Wisconsin dont have their own website because evidently you hang around here all the time ? Guess the folks in cheeseland dont want you in their place either ?

Memorial stadium will always be much more than you in cheeseland WILL EVER BE , as I dont remember your own stadium having a national championship posted on its walls , or even close to the storied traditions and games played in Lincoln. You cant even compete stadium wise for tradition.

From what I saw when we were beat in cheeseland earlier this year , was drunk , classless fans that counted the score out with pushups to rub it in , sang tired old songs that everyone else has forgotten about , and jumped around to a rap song twenty years gone past that most folks cringe at when they hear it ... but ITS WHAT YOU CHEESEHEADS DO ... I also saw on a now defunct board some Ohio state fans saying pretty much the same thing about the folks in Wisconsin and how they treat opposing fans. Tear down our stadium ?

Nice try , you are a legend in your own mind. Just curious , how many National championships do you have engraved on your stadium walls ? Our present predicament ? Seems to me you have the best team you have ever fielded and yet you still lost games this year ? You are a joke here , if you love your team so much , why not hang around there ? Oh thats right , your own people want nothing to do with you either.

And to the Husker fans on this post that were AGREEING WITH CHEESEHEAD , WOW , I guess you cant figure out the tradition and excellence , not to mention the history of your own stadium ? Pathetic ...Evidently FAIR WEATHER FANS ?

I've been reading a lot of the threads on here and my friends in Husker land, I've been thinking about your present predicament and it is clear to me that there is only one solution. Now you guys have thrown out a lot of good ideas and I think you should do them all.....stop the walk-ons, fire Bo, Bench Taylor, burn the D's Blackshirts etc...those are all great..just great...but I think you've missed one. You all should demolish Memorial Stadium. I ask you my conference brothers...

Where did a #9 Husker team lose to a unranked Northwestern team? Memorial...

Where did you lose to Iowa State to Southern Miss in the past years? Memorial...

Where did Coach Callahan spend so many of his Saturdays in Lincoln? Memorial..

Where has Martinez thrown 5 of his 8 interceptions this year? Memorial

Where have you guys lost 5 fumbles this year? Memorial

I think its quite clear what must be done. Just my two cents...hope it helps.

Dude...are you serious? I hope not because you sound pretty silly. Pretty sure Badgerfan was joking. Pretty funny joke, too. And I can laugh at the sarcasm and irony of it all without that making me a fair weather fan.

  4. So in your mind, Michigan State is equal to Nebraska as traditional football schools go? And Toledo is the equivalent of Bo's what?

The state of MSU's football program when Saban arrived is very similar to the state Nebraska's was in upon Bo's arrival. Traditional football schools? Not sure what you mean by that. Tradition doesn't mean a lot in terms of resurrecting a slumping program. Just ask John Blake or Mike Shula. Nebraska and Michigan State were in similar conferences and in a similar geographical region.

No...just because they were in a similar state does not make them comparable. Had it been at Ohio State or Michigan and they were in a similar state, then yes. At least I like to think that Nebraska is a level up from Michigan State...maybe you don't? Doesn't matter anyway as Saban had head coaching experience going in and Bo didn't. So again, not even a remotely close comparison to be talking about those 3 coaches in the same argument.

Again...I'm not saying Bo should be fired at all. I'm just saying that trying to draw some sort of parallel to Saban or Miles to prove your stance as to why he shouldn't be fired is not going to change many doubters minds I don't think.

  5. I heard Dion Sanders talking about this subject on the radio the other day...having play makers return kicks/punts. He's kind of a blow hard, but he made a lot of good points about what I think he called "invisible stats" and how valuable they are. His point was that even if the player doesn't return many balls or take it to the house a bunch or have a crazy ton of return yards statistically, you gain a lot of "invisible stats" just by having that big time player out there due to the threat he poses. Having that one big threat on the field causes teams to do things like kick away from him, kick it out of bounds, shank it because that threat is in their head, coverage has to account for them, etc. His stance was that all of those things add up to a lot more valuable upside than the potential downside of the player getting hurt. Of course Dion used to return kicks and I believe the context of the conversation was regarding the Cowboys having Dez Briant back returning kicks, but I'd think this would be the same thing. Anyway, made sense to me.

  6. As long as "Blackshirts" are synonymous with scarey good defense...all will be OK.

This is spot on and the only thing that really matters. I don't really care at what time and how many shirts the current or former coach deems correct with regard to the Blackshirt tradition. History has shown that the tradition has evolved from coach to coach and with changing defenses. Change is inevitable and I think the fact that this particular tradition has some fluidity actually lends to it being more meaningful than if it had stayed status quo all these years. That's how you end up with meaningless traditions...when the tradition doesn't even fit the current situation. I can tell you this, if our defense continued to struggle all year the way it was pre-MSU and Bo would have deemed it correct to not hand them out at all throughout the season, I would have backed that "change in tradition" 100%. The players still have to earn them and as Conga said above, as long as Blackshirt equals badass defense, all is good.

  7. Hey all. Not sure I would technically say that I'm checking in from HP...more from HM. I went the HM route after the split only because I thought the ownership for the new HM site was more passionate about Nebraska than the ownership that was left with the of the old HP site. I figured that would translate into a better product. It really had nothing to do with who I thought was right or wrong. I didn't really care and figured the courts would settle it which it sounds like they did.

I also didn't really care about a paid site versus a free site. I can see the pros and cons to both and $20 wasn't going to break the bank. But there was really never any value to the card (living outside of Nebraska) and tailgate opportunities that came with the paid site. Pretty easy to find a tailgate to be a part of in Lincoln on game day without having to be a paid member of a group. But I know websites aren't free to run so paying to use one didn't bother me.

After sticking around HM for about a year, I finally had my fill of several things that I took issue with. I don't want to get into the details, but I decided it was no longer the type of place I wanted to be.

All of that being said, I think this place looks pretty cool, seems to have a lot of the features I look for in a football board and I'm excited to give it a shot. Nice to see some familiar names from both HM and HP and looking forward to getting to know some the rest of you. Most importantly, GBR!!!

Disappointed to hear you won't be posting at HM anymore. Look forward to posting with you here.

Thanks, NEWI and glad to see you here too!!
