No contest. FLU was banned. I missed this. I cant think of a more deserving ban candidate, though....OP's a close second though. This thread is filled with insults and name calling and rule breaking by several posters other than me and you think I should be banned? That's rich. I was trying to have a sports discussion which was based in the fact that all but one coach of a National Championship team over the last 12 years was able to do it in his first 5 years at the program. I know we are not all going to agree on every detail when having those types of discussions. But clearly the vocal minority lives by another set of rules than that on here.

I expect the NU coach to act and behave a certain way. Not to mention that he's found a couple isolated incidences and is trying to compare that to the common personality trait of one person.

And look where Gene Chizik is now. You're a tool dude. Auburn bought a National Championship for $200,000. Again, don't confuse my post with wanting Gene Chizik to replace Bo.

Nebraska's 2 NC coaches took longer than 5 years too win their titles. This debunks you're theory. Todays college game wants quick fixers. they win early and then taper off, cuz they don't know how too build a program, but know how too come in and fix a good teams problems. You will notice all those guys who won in their first 2 years, walked into talented, but unmotivated teams with obsolete schemes. Those are easy fixes for a new coach. Guys that want too build a program often get fired because it takes 4 -5 years too successfully implement. So thus Guys like Turner Gill get fired. I want Bo, because he aint a quick fixer, he is a long term guy. Good points and I can definitely understand this point of view. I just question how realistic it is in today's game. As you mentioned, "todays college game wants quick fixers" and that's pretty clear from looking at the last 12 years of National Championships.

Again, half your points above are based on me saying anything about these stats having anything to do with first time coaches. You also seem to be under the assumption that I would want all of those guys over Bo? I won't even mention the inaccuracies or sour grapes points you've tried to make.

Maybe you're right. But that doesn't sound very fun to me. I'd like to win some more NC's in my lifetime.

Not to mention, all these teams have the ability to turn out top 25 recruiting classes year after year, based on the school name alone. Jesus, I have to stop reading this, because each time I do, I find more dumb ass things related to it... All these teams are the National Champions over the last 12 years. No more, no less. So you're saying that Nebraska can't "turn out top 25 recruiting classes year after year, based on the school name alone" so we should just give up the hope of winning another NC ever again???

See post above. I'm not arguing that you're wrong. I'm just saying that being a first time head coach has nothing to do with what I'm saying. Unless you're hoping Nebraska will be a stepping stone job for Bo? I don't think any of us believes that's the case. My basis was coaches who have won a Nation al Championships in their first 5 years of the programs they won them at. Bo doesn't have any parallels to any of them. Doesn't mean it still might not happen, just means statistically speaking it hasn't happened once in the last 12 years.

How many did Saban win before Alabama? One at LSU in his 10th year as a head coach. How about Chizik at Iowa St? Les Miles at Okla. St? Urban Meyer at Utah? Larry Coker took over an 11-1 team from 2000 and where is he now? Even Bill Callahan took the Raiders to the Super Bowl because of Jon Grudens players. The only guys you can compare Pelini to in that group are Carrol and Stoops because they were both first time head coaches. Also, USC and Oklahoma are both easier places to get talent to. God, I hope we go undefeated the rest of the season then we won't hear from you til our next loss. Btw, I thought you were no longer a Husker fan? Shouldn't you be posting on another teams message board? For starters, where in my post did I say that any of these guys were first time coaches? This was simply a look at new coaches at new programs...experienced or inexperienced. I believe most of the "five year slump" arguments I've seen are referring to coaches (regardless of experience) at their new programs and how the first five years is commonly a slump phase as that's when the changes really take place. Has nothing to do with being a first time coach or not. So, please don't confuse the point of my post. That being said, using your logic and given the statistical probability of recent history, you're looking for Nebraska to be at the same level as Michigan State, Utah, Okie State and Iowa State of the 90's and early 2000's? Really not trying to be a dick here, I just don't understand your argument. It reads to me that you are trying to argue that because those coaches were all able to do something pretty good in their first 5 years as a head coach with inferior programs prior to going to an elite program and winning a NC, they shouldn't be compared to what Bo is doing in his first five years at Nebraska? Or are you arguing that only two first time college head coaches have won a NC over the last 12 years...and both of them were able to get it done in their first 5 years. Neither argument changes the point of my post. Just trying to have a civilized sports discussion here.

I've seen a lot of discussion that it is common for a coach to hit a slump in their 5th year because of the time it takes to reload or get the right coaches in place or whatever excuse is being thrown out. Well guess what...there's nothing to this theory whatsoever. More excuses and spin jobs. For every coach you can come up with who excelled after a fifth year slump, I can find one that excelled much earlier. Have a look at this... In the last 12 years... Bob Stoops - National Championship - Year 2 Larry Coker - National Championship - Year 1 Jim Tressel - National Championship - Year 2 Nick Saban - National Championship - Year 4 Pete Carroll - National Championship - Year 3 & 4 Urban Meyer - National Championship - Year 2 & 4 Les Miles - National Championship - Year 3 Nick Saban (again) - National Championship - Year 3 & 5 Gene Chizik - National Championship - Year 2 In fact, if you can deduct anything, it's that if your guy doesn't win a National Championship in his first 5 years in today's game, there is a VERY good chance he's never going to. The only coach who has won a NC in the last 12 years which wasn't in his first five years was Mack Brown at Texas. Took him 8.

Yeah, I'm thinking now isn't the time A) because no way our new AD comes in right away and makes that kind of massive change right out of the chute (unless something really extreme happens) and B) because I'm really not sure there are enough candidates who we could get who are close enough to a sure thing available right now (which is why I didn't weigh in on the pick the new coach thread). Not saying there aren't a bunch of guys who wouldn't, without question, do a better job than Bo, but there aren't many who everyone would feel was a sure thing or close enough to it that would be willing to come to Nebraska right now...at least as of today. I think that's part of the problem when Solich was fired. I think Pedey kind of jumped ship without having another ship to jump into. As for the long offseason, those and long regular seasons started with me last season.

I'll agree. I'm as big'a Bo-backer as anyone, but if we bomb the next two years, then yes, by then it will time for a change. I was a Callahan supporter up to the '07 USC game. The programs was taking steps. Sure '06 ended badly, but we were very competitive with two very good teams (Auburn was the only team to beat that season's National Champion). But when the USC game in '07 came around, and then the near Ball St. disaster a week later it became clearly evident it just was not going to work out. So, I joined the crowd and got my pitchforks out too. I just believe in patience. Cally only got 4 years, and Bo is in #5 and I'm asking for more, but with Cally is was obvious. There was plenty of evidence. With Bo. Not YET. If we finish this year with the status quo 9 wins, then yes, two more years should be a reasonable guarantee. But we also have to define exactly what a "flop" in the next two years would be... With the scheduling and a veteran offense, I'm gladly to say that anything less than a division championship would be borderline unacceptable. It would be tough to require a Big 10 championship simply because of what Ohio St. is probably going to be. That's something that could vary througout the season. Requiring a BCS bowl and/or MNC would just be ludicrous. As far as wins go, any thing less than 10 win regular seasons the next couple, could spell bad news. I hope not, but it could. Agreed. I'd like to face them in the Title game at least once though. That would be enough for me to keep Bo here. And I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't jump off the Cally bandwagon until the Oklahoma State game that year. Some of us are slow : ) Nothing to be ashamed about. It just became so obvious against Ball St that there problems far beyond talent and x's & o's. Well, maybe that's why I'm ready to call it quits with Bo. I stayed with Callaclown too long too. Stood by him until almost the bitter end (probably around Okie State game as well). I'm not one to make the same mistake twice so this time, I'm ready to just cut our losses. The writing is on the wall. Not the same writing as was there with Cally, but equally as bad writing. So why will this time around be any different? Why should I think we won't be burnt twice? Fool me once, blah blah blah... Anyhoo, all of that being said, I do agree with most on here that (short of a colossal meltdown) this is not the year to show Bo the door. But it will be in the next year or two I have no doubt.

When was his last tantrum this season? Last game. Sideline report came back after halftime I believe. Something to the effect of "I tried to interview Bo Pelini and he was trite offering nothing but one word answers." Sounded like a tantrum to me.

The Nebraska "you know" was gone as of January 3, 1998. Too much to ask to want it back? Or at least a modern day version of it that doesn't embarrass us? I don't think so.

Yeah, I did read it and you're right. He did take some responsibility in one of the parts. I should have given credit to him there.

So your basicly saying that the coaches don't know how to teach tackling? Do you ever have a logical thought? I'm guessing not just by reading all your comments. So you're basically saying that the coaches can't recruit players capable of learning properly taught tackling? Hey man, I'm not the one that is getting all bent out of shape over stupid sh!t...and if you think Nebraska is the only team that has issues with tackling, then you don't watch much football. Tackling has takin a backseat to the big hit plain and simple. Well, that I definitely agree with!! Doesn't change the fact that Bo is deflecting blame and what he's saying is truly the definition of insanity (doing the same thing, expecting different results, yada, yada, yada). Not the first time he's taken that position on things that aren't working.

Funny...and I haven't even weighed in on this thread. But thanks for the vote of confidence! Very unlikely that Bo's going anywhere this year (key words) from what I've seen. He'll be out in a year or two, though and I suspect people's wish lists of candidates will look a lot different at that time.

Honestly, Bo would have to almost literally become a completely different person to regain my support. Sure, winning would help me be a little more willing to look past some things. But at the end of the day, I just flat don't like the way he comes off and represents Nebraska. If our record was exactly what it is today and Bo just had a little bit of class, I'd be much more supportive of him. But the guy acts like a little bitch constantly and embarrasses Nebraska. From his entitled stance when he wasn't handed Frank's job to the way he treated Bill Snyder to his wife's FUSP gloves...all the way through to the flipping the clipboard at our own crowd to just flat out acting like a dick to every single media member he comes across to his sideline tantrums and everything in between. There really are too many instances to name or try to remember. An isolated instance like that or two and it's a funny side note on who Bo is. But Bo's personality flaws and tantrums and outbursts and the like are so frequent that they have come to define who he is and truly override any positive personality traits he may posses. And, unfortunately, those same flaws are coming to define Nebraska football. I have a problem with that. The Nebraska I know doesn't act that way. Nebraska people don't act that way. Bo is less "Nebraska" than any head coach I can remember and he's not who I want as a face for one of the things that identifies Nebraska the most. He's not the perception I want the rest of the college football nation to have of Nebraska. The way he acts is not what I want my son/daughter growing up idolizing. So, he would have to completely change who he is in order to gain back my support and given that he's in his 40's, I don't see that happening. He is who he is and it's not who I want representing our once proud Nebraska program.

I thought more notable was that Eichorst has been there a couple days and "keeps missing" Bo Pelini. Isn't that one of the first people you meet? I don't care how busy either of them are, I find that very odd. Bo should have made the time to meet his new boss and/or Eichorst should have made the time to meet with Bo, the current head of the most important aspect of his new job. Suspect this probably has something more to it. Bo has been too busy updating his resume per some posters request! No time to worry about his former schools new AD! Ain't that right Lando?! I wish!! Patience...patience. I forgot the sarcasm sign! I actually WANT Bo as HC! You too will one day realize. Just as many held on to their belief in Callahan, slowly but surely, they all see the light...or most all anyway.
