    1. Nebraska

    2. Iowa

  2. I don't think NCAA bylaws are going to be particularly relevant when the Big Ten,SEC, Pac-12 and secret conference #4(probably Big XII) leave the NCAA.

probably going to have 3 levels of Championships in Division I.

    1. FCS Champion

    2. FBS leftovers Champion

    3. Big Ten/SEC/Pac 12/4th conference Champion

Personally I don't think there's a cabal of schools foolish enough to risk the political fall out of splitting away from the NCAA.... or give up NCAA BB tournament money.

  3. Texas - distance & 'cultural' issues aside, no one brings more to the table than the Longhorns

Notre Dame - if for no other reason than to see their fans wearing sack cloth & self flagellating in protest

North Carolina - outside of UT the most valuable long term addition, perfect fit academically & athletically

Kansas - because I feel sorry for them

  4. It doesn't make sense to do the network, then, because the non-football SEC sports already own ESPN-U, more or less.

Then again, this is ESPN we're talking about, and they are still paying Bevo for their crap network...

It's always been my understanding that part of the reason behind (what was at the time) the huge media deal with the SEC was to help prevent them from starting a rival network. If ESPN is going to make concessions to the SEC to help them get a network up & running then what is in it for ESPN? The only explanation that seems reasonable to me is that ESPN would only do so if they're getting something in return and the only thing I see that they could realistically get out of the deal would be to keep the SEC network under their own umbrella. An SEC branded channel should theoretically do very well in the south east US & there is profit to be made there, certainly more than with the LHN. I just don't see ESPN letting it slip entirely out of their grasp.

It's really not that big of a leap IMO. BTN is 51% owned by Fox whereas the P12N is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Pac12. The SECN being an ESPN property with perhaps a small ownership stake by the SEC entails lower risk while leveraging the existing ESPN infrastructure in place provides faster startup & profitability sooner. Just a slightly different path to the same destination.

I like your teams, but how about this for divisions:

    B1G West

    Nebraska

    Kansas

    Missouri

    Iowa

    Minnesota

    Wisconsin

    B1G Central

    Michigan

    Michigan State

    Northwestern

    Illinois

    Purdue

    Indiana

    B1G East

    Ohio State

    Penn State

    Rutgers

    Maryland

    Virginia

    North Carolina

Five Divisional Games, and two each from the other two divisions.

The Conference Playoff would be the three division winners plus a wildcard. Three huge games in December $$$ and essentially the B1G would own part of the playoff system.

    1. Conference semi-finals or other additional games would require a change in the NCAA bylaws.

    2. In effect pushing Ohio State out of the B1G into the mini-ACC/East isn't going to fly.

  5. UNC boards are freaking out. They do not want to move. Why is it that these schools do not want to come to what i believe is greener pastures? Maryland and Rutgers didn't like the news either.

We're carpetbaggers who are going to use our devious big city ways to swindle them out of their cash & steal the virtue of their women folk.

  6. So now I'm wondering out loud......Do Ohio State fans cheer on Michigan and care how they perform, and does Michigan return the favor for Ohio State ?

    For the most part? No.

This is pretty representative of Buckeye fan opinions regarding That School Up North...

in fact the most winningest program of all time is Michigan (even though they started football programs before most schools!) then comes Nebraska, not OSU.

    1. Michigan

    2. Nebraska

    3. OSU

    4. Penn St.

Thats the order of all time wins in the big inside the top 20. To me NU and Penn St. are just as important programs as are Mich and OSU but that is not the way it is portrayed in sports media.

    1 TSUN 903-315-36

    4 Nebraska 856-353-40

    5 Ohio State 837-316-53

Nebraska has 19 more wins all time but there is also those extra 37 pesky losses.

    1 TSUN .7345

4 The Ohio State University .7160

    7 Nebraska .7014

Cherry picking data is fun! ;)

(use stats for the modern era and you come up with two more completely different orders)

I didn't have respect for Tressel recruiting tactics

Out of curiosity what recruiting tactics would those be?

Doesn't happen as much as it really should. How many times has Sparty had them and they blow the game?

That's what made the Sparty game in 2001 really special. Those people are STILL whining about that finish :D

    Sparty being Sparty. shaking_head.gif

  7. Posted on Facebook yesterday...

Today is a sad day for the sport of wrestling not just in the US, but worldwide. The sport we've grown to love, that has battle tested our wills and hardened our ears has been removed from the Olympics starting in 2020. The host city is still unknown, but one thing we do know is that at this point, wrestling won't be there. As an Olympic Gold Medalists I feel an obligation to fight for the sport that I love most. I wouldn't be who I am if I allowed this to end without a fight. We have to rally. It may be out of our reach, but trying never hurt. We have to protect the sport that I've done since the age of 5, the sport that molded me into a man, and turned a 45 pound toddler, into a 163 pound champion. The outcry on all social media networks is evident. #SaveOlympicWrestling trended on Twitter today, and I've received many messages demanding I do something. I have. I guess my performance in London wasn't enough. I suppose the months I spent inspiring kids to chase their dreams after my victory fell on deaf ears. Deaf IOC ears at least. At the end of the day I just keep thinking, "why wrestling?" The Olympics are going in a different direction they've stated. I feel a bit helpless, vulnerable, and at the mercy of the IOC. Not to belittle the significance of any other event, but wrestling is an original. We were here first. 26 out of 27 Olympics to be exact. Wrestling is thriving at the midget level, in a sport that was said to be dying. After all the college program cuts, we showed signs of life in our success and support on every level. Then; Boom. Gone. I first heard the news in a German airport today during a layover. Olympic Wrestling is gone for now, and Rio is it's curtain call. I'm hoping and praying for the best. I will do my share in protecting not only my dream, but every little wrestlers dream worldwide. Still, if wrestling is axed, it will be tough to look kids in the eye for the rest of my life and tell them that they can't follow their dreams anymore, they're no longer Olympic hopefuls. They've lost to an opponent that they've never had a shot against. One that's never even worn a headgear. The IOC. Heartbroken.

  8. There may not be anything on the books, but the evidence lies in the lack of action the SEC has taken with FSU throughout expansion history. This isn't the first opportunity (or the second, really) that the SEC could have onboarded FSU since they've been worthy program, and they haven't.

So the evidence that there is a gentlemen's agreement between schools like UF, UGA, South Carolina & (presumably now) UK to keep competing in-state schools out is the SEC having never added FSU despite the fact that THE UNIVERSITY OF FLORIDA WAS THE SCHOOL THAT REPEATEDLY ATTEMPTED TO GET FSU ADDED?

If the University of Florida was part of a secret cabal to keep FSU out how does their continual championship of FSU in the SEC further said plan?

And ScarletNCream already covered the two big pieces of information out there, really--that we're in a holding pattern until the Maryland issue is resolved, and that Jim is (finally!) keen on FSU and, barring a surprise SEC invite (5% chance that would happen), FSU will be member school #16, #17, or #18 (as we already know Virginia is #15).

The constant stream of wall bound fecal matter hurled by MHver & 'The Dude' does not constitute 'big pieces of information'.

That is why I asked if there was some other source. Without one it's just another in a long line of BS rumors by those two.

  9. They did for a long time. You may want to check their fight song...

This. 'VT' is actually a relatively new branding effort that really got pushed in the 70/80's.

In fact when the University updated it's logo in the early 90's 'VT' was specifically left off because of concerns that people wouldn't connect it with the school.

  10. Maryland was also Union.

It wasn't quite that simple. Maryland staying loyal required Lincoln sending Federal troops to occupy Maryland, suspending Habeas Corpus & arresting the Maryland legislature members that planned to vote for secession.

From 'The Turbulent Days Between Fort Sumter and Bull Run" (David Detzer):

The secessionists possessed about two-thirds of each branch of the State legislature, and the general government had what it regarded as good reasons for believing that a secret, extra, and illegal session of the legislature was about to be convened at Frederick on the 17th of Sept. in order to pass an ordinance of secession. It was understood that this action was to be supported by an advance of the Southern army across the Potomac....It was impossible to permit the secession of Maryland, intervening, as it did, between the capital and the loyal States, and commanding all our lines of supply and reinforcement. I do not know how the government obtained the information on which they reached their conclusions. I do not know how reliable it was. I only know that at the time it seemed more than probable, and that ordinary prudence required that it should be regarded as certain. So that when I received the orders for the arrest of the most active members of the legislature, for the purpose of preventing the intended meeting and the passage of the act of secession, I gave that order a most full and hearty support as a measure of undoubted military necessity.

On the 10th of Sept. Hon. Simon Cameron, Secretary of War, instructed Gen. Banks to prevent the passage of any act of secession by the Maryland legislature, directing him to arrest all or any number of the members, if necessary, but in any event to do the work effectively.

On the same day the Secretary of War instructed Gen. Dix to arrest six conspicuous and active secessionists of Baltimore, three of whom were members of the legislature.

It's no secret that UF, Georgia and South Carolina have and or will block any effort to add another "in-state"; school going forward and you are right, Clemson would go Big 12. Sorry

It may not be a secret but there also doesn't seem to be any evidence to support it being real. SEC fans are pretty consistent in saying that the 'gentlemen's agreement' doesn't exist and UF spent decades working to get FSU into the SEC, not keep them out.

  11. The ACC wants everyone to sign a GOR. NBC told ND that they can't sign one, breach of contract. FSU has sent a "plan" to the BIG, even though they are not AAU they are ranked higher than DONU as far as acedemics and Delany is impressed with thier efforts to achieve AAU status. Clemson has refused to sign the GOR (grant of rights) along with FSU and I believe NC and GT.

Is there any source of this outside of the WVU story tellers?

BTW if the SEC won't take FSU due to duplication of markets why in the world would they take Clemson?

  12. Updated for NLOI day:

I also added the other ACC teams that are rumored to be potential future members (well probably not NCSt).

    And using Scout's rankings:

    2poa4oy.png

I didn't go back & and check individual classes from each service so I don't know exactly who was counted or not to take account of the slightly different total numbers.

    Look at the average rankings

    We're in 3rd

If we are still that way when we have 25-27 I will be tickled pink

I believe you got your wish.
