Witnessing that game in person Saturday, I am 100% convinced that there was a real effort by the officials to side with NW on penalty calls.  Now, I don't believe the BIG hates Nebraska or refs hold grudges and I am not some crazy conspiracy theorist.  I do, however, have eyes and what they saw was atrocious.  I'm getting annoyed with people chalking it ALL up to bad coaching, dumb or undisciplined players, etc. Sure, there was some of that, but its not that NW is just some perfectly disciplined team and we just suck.  It's hard to overcome biased officiating, I don't care who you are.  As to what was the driving factor behind the officiating I witnessed?  I don't know, but I have my theories.

Good  post,  looked the same on TV

Yeah I'm sure the big10 is telling officials to favor the huge money making powerhouse northwestern over Nebraska.

I think you missed the point,  the penalties called in the Big Ten are not being called in the other conferences.  When you have such a vast difference in the number of calls on one side as as apposed to the other it make you wonder what the -- -- is going on.

To be honest with you, I am so frustrated and dejected after today’s game that I started to question everything. Imagine, Liberty beat Troy who beat us. We are 0-6 and we don’t seem to get out of our own way. We continue to pile on the penalties on every crucial moment of the game including in OT. Our players beat themselves all the time. Our special teams are anything but special. We do not have a kicker. We just replaced our punter. We can never go after a punt or block a kick, and every time we make a positive play on special teams, it is negated by a STUPID penalty. When you see this in six games, doesn’t that make you question the decision making and the ability of these coaches to fix the mistakes! Just an honest question.

Remember these players are the same players we had on the team last year.  Bad habits are hard to break and lack of speed on both O and D turn us into what we are.  Look for faster players and more diciplined players to be recruited in the future.  You can't coach speed, it's genetic. Why do you think we get beat so often in the passing game.  Lack of speed!!!!

It's been a dumpster fire since Callahan.  That's 14 years at this point.  We'll see if Frost gets them back where he wants to, but frankly if he doesn't, the Huskers aren't going back to the top ever.  With the overreaction and lack of patience people have here, my money's on never.

There's a lot to be said about consistency when you're talking about building a team from school kids.  Every week I see more and more clicking.  The losses suck, of course, for them most of all but at least the team looks like they want to actually try and play football and to get better.  They don't look like they just want to go through the motions every play and get home asap.  They have an almost comical ability to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory but that isn't new.  They've done that for years in big games. They get all jittery, make mistakes and then throw in the towel.  The throw in the towel part is really what made it unbearable to watch for me, and thankfully that's a lot better.

People calling for heads and looking for anyone they can to place blame, well, that's what got Nebraska here in the first place.  That and having AD's and President's stupid enough to listen.  It's down to the last hope here, IMO.  The university's tried the "throw money" approach, we ended up with Callahan.  They tried the "lets just fix the defense approach" we ended up with a few good years under Pelini and then attrition, they tried the "lets get someone with a similar public temperament to TO" and we ended up with Riley.  This team was awful last year and had a lot of attrition.  People predicting 9 wins or even 6+ wins were obviously nuts.  It's time for a new approach: The sit back, support the team and let the coach sort it out on his own approach.  If it doesn't work out, we're down to the "make it 1997 again through science or magic" and begging TO not to retire approach.

I agree,  let the coaches do what they do and leave them alone.  They make mistakes and the players make mistakes.  We need consistency in a program for Nebraska to be successful.  We have a proven coach that has had success and needs time to correct all the problems from prevous coaches.  Remember the team is made up of players that were signed by other coaches, the bright spots are players that have bought into the system.  I see many more players leaving and a new group with better skills coming in.  Be Patient  we are going to get a lot better!!!!!!

    No bias.  Pure undisciplined play.

Can anyone tell me how many flags were thrown on the last two drives against Nebraska?  Including the ones that were declined?  I watched the Louisiana State game after the Nebraska  game and focused on the pass rush and PI calls made and noticed a big difference in the level of play permitted from the SEC and the Big officials.  Look at the lack of calls when Nebraska was putting pressure on the QB and no call for throwing the ball in the dirt,  sure there was a player close but he was in no position to catch the ball, happened twice on the second to last drive.  This is called in the other conferences but not in the BIG.  The same holds true for the Pac twelve and the Big twelve. The ruffing the passer penalty on the one yard line is a case in point.  The SEC officials let the players play the game.  Looks like the Big officials control the pace of play, the speed of play and the game itself.  It sure seems like the flags come out when the game is on the line and a team from the old big ten needs to score or a team needs to stop a team from scoring.  I watched many Big games this year and had this though in almost every game.  Several friends have noticed the same type of officiating through the season.  I don't think this is random and is something that needs to be addressed.

  6. All you have to do is ask the teachers and coaches around the country how different the players are today compared to twenty years ago.  Look what happen when gabby lost the starting Qb position,  didn't take him long to show his true colors. Why do you think coach Frost is talking about buying into the program.  Need to get rid of the cancer. Most students and athletes are looking for what is best for them {What have you done for me today,  Attitude} don't you understand its all about me.  Reason many coaches have retired!!!!!!   This is what needs to change at Nebraska for the team to start winning..

  7. I don't think any game is a sure win for any program in college football today.  The skill level of players has jumped to a new level with the restrictions on schlorships at the D1 schools.  This can be seen through out the country with the wins of lower level schools over the big boys in every power five conference.  Troy was no push over and Colorado seems to have righted the ship.  Its going to take time to change the attitude of the players.  Its also going to take time to change the though process of many on this board.  We won four games last year, there is a reason for that,  change takes time,  Twenty years of sub par play can not be erased in nine months.  Chill out people and give the coach time to work things out.

The play that sunk Nebraska was the EXTREMELY ticky tack penalty pass interference or holding (can't remember which) on #24.  That gave Troy a 1st down and led to their last TD.

If you look close I don't think it was a penalty.  I though the officiating was not up to par the whole game.  To make that call that late in the game is subject.

  9. Remember most on the team are players that Frost did not recruit.  Its hard to turn attitudes and skill sets around in less than one year. How many games did we win last year?  Its going to take some time for the team to get things together and learn how to win games.  Given time we will be fine and playing in the Big championship game soon.

Tom's a real loyal guy; I'm not surprised he's still Stanning for Frank. But you are correct: Frank was never going to lead the program to the heights achieved by Devaney and TO.

I don't think it could have been any worse in hind sight.

Yes. Everything has leaks. The white house for F****** sake has leaks. Lets not get hung up on the sanctity of information in lincoln. Everyone was on pins and needles waiting to hear the news on Martinez. I appreciate the info.

I don't think its creepy at all.  What is wrong with a daughter telling her dad what she witnessed in a class.  In todays world  of cell phones and social media nothing is private.  Its just a sign of the times,  kids are encouraged to bring there phones to class and use them for research and other things,  most of them not good.  In a public space privacy is gone.  Thanks for the info.

  12. We all need to remember this is a puzzle that has many pieces.  It may take longer than we want to get back to the top but I for one like the hire and see good things coming.  A change in how we handle the fundamentals of football, game management, and a coach talking to players on the sideline ( coaching ) will bring the changes we need to get back to the top.  I think we all know we need to be patient.
