  1. ACC gets an at large??? Hate to say it but K-State might have gotten screwed.... Was the Big 12 really that bad this year?? Can't say I paid any attention. ;)

Nah its just because the ACC is clearly the better conference.

Incidentally, the ACC just signed large television contract with ESPN.

  2. I see no reason to believe this team is going to be anything special next year. The offense isn't spectacular, aside from Burkhead, and we are losing the heart of the defense. It's gonna be another 3 losses in conference play. This time two of the three won't be absolute blowouts, only one will be. The game in Columbus will be rough.

  3. Not to sound sore about things here guys but Michigan State has the best regular season record out of any Big Ten team, and yet there are talks of MSU dropping to the Outback or even possibly the insight or gator with a loss to Wisconsin. Obviously, I hope we just take care of business again against Wisconsin but for a team that goes 7-1 in the conference to be rewarded for a great season with a trip to the insight bowl simply does not seem right to me, and I would make this argument for any team in the BIG that has a similar season.

I mean, can you really argue going to a lower bowl than Nebraska? Yes, you have one conference loss... Nebraska.

So, would it be cool if Northwestern got picked ahead of us?

  4. I absolute despise Meyer.

In 09 he needed to quit to focus on his health and family when really he was probably just looking at how his team was going to fall apart the next year losing key players and coordinators. He had second thoughts and decided he would just stick it out another year and see how things pan out.

In 10 the team lost 5 games and the future didn't look bright. Instead of trying to sell those who follow the program on the idea of rebuilding he decides instead to say again that he needs to retire because of his health and family issues.

So in 11 it's time for him to stay home with his family and focus on getting healthy, right? No. He takes a job at ESPN where he has to be on the road every single weekend plus all the time they want to have him in the studio and then accepts the head coaching position at Ohio State at the end of the year.

I would've been completely accepting of his excuse the second time if he had actually stayed in the studio and spent more than just a single offseason away from the game. He is nothing but a weasel. He saw his program about to go through a rebuilding process and decided to just jump ship for excuses he has completely contradicted. f#*k Urban Meyer, I hope he crashes and burns at Ohio State (though I would wish that upon just about anyone who took the job there).

  5. Sat, Sep 01 Southern Miss

    Sat, Sep 15 Arkansas State

I noticed S.Miss and ArkSt. got #23 and #32 rankings on the USAToday/Coaches poll. Thus the weakest team in non-conf schedule will be UCLA .

And comically enough, if UCLA wins against Oregon on Saturday they get to play in the Rose Bowl.

  6. I think our chances at an at-large bid just got a bit better since Iowa State pulled out the upset against Oklahoma State. If they lose against Oklahoma too then I think the Big 12 is only going to get one bid instead of two like everyone assumed they would.

  7. I just don't see us getting an at large bid if we don't even make it to the Big 10 Championship game. The SEC has three teams in the top 10 of the BCS, Big 12 has two, ACC has two, and the Pac 12 has two. Big 10 has zero, and the Big East has zero. There's still enough season left for this to change, but I don't give us a high probability of making one right now.

Most of this really isn't relevant though. What is relevant is how many non-champs get automatic bids for being in the top 4 (almost certainly Alabama), whether a non-AQ team gets in automatically (pretty likely to be Houston, TCU or Southern Miss), and then it's just who else is in the top 14 and is attractive to bowls to fill the other two spots The Big 12 loser probably takes one. The other is between us (IF we make the top 14) , Stanford, the ACC loser or Boise to fill the last spot. Bowl selection order makes a huge difference here. Since the Fiesta gets the first pick, they aren't going to take the unbound Big East champ or the ACC loser. Stanford? maybe. Boise? doubtful. Nebraska, especially vs OU? Seems like a winner.

Still plenty of games left that could shake things up, and of course the #1 thing is for us to win out, and win the B1G championship if we get there.

You want the worst scenario? LSU loses the SEC championship, Oregon loses again, and OU or OSU loses this month but wins Bedlam. That probably puts LSU vs. Alabama in the championship, and Georgia goes to the Sugar Bowl. That's the one way a conference gets 3 teams in, and it takes away the spot we'd be shooting for.

Im pretty certain that a conference could only get a maximum of 2 bids in BCS. So once LSU-Alabama get picked for there respective games, Geogria/Arkansas/South Carolina are out, please correct me if Im wrong. This is why some have Nebraska going to Fiesta Bowl, that and they will travel more. Once a bowl comes up to pick for the atlarge spot, they can take any team available in the top 14.

The one scenario he presented is the only way for a conference to get 3 bids. If the SEC has LSU and Alabama at #1 and #2 but neither are the champion then the champion gets a bid too. This scenario is entirely plausible this year, but still unlikely.

  8. This is a big "if" but, if South Carolina beats LSU in the SEC title game, Bama would be out of the BCS and sent to the Gator Bowl.

If LSU lost to Georgia or South Carolina then they would be out of the BCS. Alabama would move up a spot past LSU to #2 and play in the BCS title game, but all 3 could end up in the BCS if both LSU and Oklahoma State get upset. If LSU doesn't drop below Oregon with their loss then it would be LSU Alabama for the title with Georgia/South Carolina in the Sugar Bowl. I just don't see LSU losing though.

Some of you aren't quite getting this, but it seems almost guaranteed that a non AQ will make a BCS bowl. The BCS is required to take the highest ranked champion of a non AQ conference if they are in the top 16 and ranked higher than the champion of any BCS conference (Big East champion isn't going to be ranked). Houston is already #11 and TCU and Southern Miss are going to slide into the top #16 since they don't have to play anyone that is remotely near being bowl eligible.

In order to be picked at large you need to be in the top 14, so in all likeliness there are going to be two at large spots and five teams eligible for those spots. The pool will likely be Oklahoma/OSU (both are locks) and VT/Clemson losers, Stanford, Boise, and Nebraska. I really hope that whichever bowl picks the second at large team likes us more than they like Stanford, Boise, or VT/Clemson.

  9. The way I see it, the Huskers should find themselves with an at large bid to a BCS bowl if they can win out and either Stanford loses a game or if both the MWC and CUSA champions finish lower than 16th. It will be tough to win both of these final two games, but it's still fun and surprising to see the team still alive for a berth to the Sugar, Orange, or Fiesta Bowl (NU v. OU anyone?).

Or pray that Northwestern can upset Michigan State while we win out.
