  1. With all the natural athletes we have on any Power 5 team . . . it seems like a "Rudy" QB could be discovered if given try outs and a chance.   When we're losing by 30 or more points in the 4th quarter  . . . . . haul out the long snapper and punters off the bench and kick them out to the huddle to see if a QB is lurking on the team.

What the hey do we have to lose?   (it might be fun to find out)

I'm in the minority, but I just don't see where MJ is really needed.  I could see us being succesful without him.  I don't see it as mandatory like alot of fans do.

Nebraska's receivers were bascially the same they were as under Frost.  MJ's boy just declared for the draft.  I'll be shocked if he is even drafted.  If I was an NFL team, i'd ask him in his intervew why his productivity disappeared when his team needed him most during the season.

If the backup QB's can't pass  . . . well what is to be expected?    I see Palmer getting drafted in the first 2 or 3 rounds.   Rodgers in GB would love to have him.

  3. Yes, a good/tough conference is something that reflects well on all teams in that sphere.

Even more tangible than above is that great QB play matters.   The game was still competitive when Slovis was in (man, what a talent!).    But the whole team lost their competitive spirit when he was out.    Further, . . . . Stanley had one of, if not the best game of his entire career.

  4. There really is no good scenario for the excuses for the AM performance issues posted by some here.   None what so ever including injuries.   Why?   Because Frost has a perfectly capable back-up in Noah, and an acceptable back-up in Bunch (if not willing to burn LM redshirt).

Just because Frost could effectively play through a couple minor injuries in a totally different scheme - - well, that doesn't always translate to other QB's & different schemes.

Urban Meyer also put the spotlight on changing the status quo (saying N needs to "look under the hood" . . . . meaning QB to start).

  5. I've seen a lot of great QB's since 58 - - too many to list.   The really great ones had quick minds that matched or even exceeded their physical skills.

IMHO, BigPete & AO are spot-on in their assessments.

Martinez has a low ceiling (at QB) because he makes too many mental errors, doesn't see things.   He is a skilled athlete and could be very good at several positions of need (Safety, Outside Linebacker, Flanker, etc.).   Think about all the low passes that normally will go uncaught (today was an exception).   Think about all the passes that were dropped because he hasn't learned how to slow the pass down for short range . . . those things kill an offense against good teams.

I like the young man, but we risk much by having him at #1 QB.   For 2019, overall, our best QB may be Vedral, followed by Luke M, then AM.   In 2020, we may hopefully have more options (we would be an instant contender if we had a McKenzie type of QB).

  6. At this point in the season, the coaches need to find out if there is an alternative to the mediocre QB performance we've seen so far.    Since we're hearing the top 3 QB's are all capable - - isn't it worth the long term benefit to try both Vedral and McCaffrey over the next couple of games (and let Martinez fully recover).

Frost needs the "quick blinker" to be the starter - - the one that can actually execute the game plan.

There are still other reasons why Washington's case is different. E.g., he did it in March, not 2 and a half years ago. He also was an adult at the time, so the consequences are different.

Good point . . right on target regarding the real issue.   Just as a side note . . . these cases are a PITA for the local PD's & district courts.   So, as interstate transmission of child porn is a Federal crime & can be transferred to that system, it's way better to treat the Locals nice.    The Feds don't mess around . . . the average sentence is 5 years, and the Fed system doesn't do probation or early outs (parole).   So, keep it local and basically, beg for the courts leniency . . . conviction rates are near 100% because of multiple device forensics (like a fingerprint level of proof).

  8. If the California authorities get tired of spinning their wheels regarding interview/questioning MoWash . . . and feel they're getting stonewalled by UNL then, the problem could morph into obstruction etc.    We want to avoid that scenario and provide what the local Bay area  authorities are requesting (nicely so far).  Let's all just cooperate to get this over with.

  9. I see a bad-moon arising . . . . because of months & months long delaying tactics & disinformation (incompetence OR  . . . . coverup)???

If UNL doesn't handle right, this may exceed the nature of the original allegations.    Hope UNL & football ops gets their act together . . . . quickly.   Before the Big 10 Office or NCAA get curious.

  10. If formally charged - - yes - - the accused is not guilty pending the results of a trial or plea.   However, until resolved, the image (of MW being on the active roster) is a total dumpster fire.     I suspect UNL will have no other alternative but put him on a type of suspension from the program pending the courts findings or an acceptable plea that "may" keep a window open in the future.

  11. It's hard to D&D (dispute and discredit) the informative posts by HuskerNation1, Mavric, Scratchtown, Jeepy, St. Paul Husker and lo country.   The situation in Orlando was a "Perfect Storm" scenario that required a talent/sharpness ("fast blinker") like MM at Qb.    Without that and an adequate Offensive Line, it all comes crashing down because the scores per possession really drops.

We'd likely still have Callahan (a great recruiter) as the N head coach if he would have replaced his DC sooner.    Great offenses and bad defense is not a good place to be in the BIG10.   Someone like Michigan or Wisconsin preventing our "kinda  high-octane" offense from taking the field spells long-term failure of the scheme.

This makes me think you misunderstood my post so I’ll be very clear. I don’t think that was a mental “mistake” at all. They’re putting themselves out of the play to avoid contact. Yea put Honas in, he seems to have the toughness needed to play football at Nebraska.

IF . . . repeat IF, a player is smart enough to do that (be MIA for a play), then they also know how to be in the right position.    Accordingly, the coaches can teach & reteach, but after 2 or 3 obvious repeats of this . . . time to put someone else in.    But my view is, it's likely the player doesn't fully get the game.   Smarts just as important as athleticism.

  13. Ethan Cox is another possibility.   His speed and running ability is good, although he's slightly slower than Mazour.   He is a capable passer and physically is a better QB candidate.   I think the coaches also look at what is lost with position changes . . so a pro/con list is done.   And whoever it is, does the person learn fast?
