  1. A guy that interests me that I haven't seen mentioned is Mike MacIntyre. He turned-around a horrid SJSU program and already has CU playing better ball.

There's somewhat strong talk of the 'Whorns being interested in MacIntyre if Muschamp isn't available--the thought process being that if he can have success with that steaming pile of excrement left in Boulder, imagine what he can do with a bought and paid-for Texass team that is loaded with 3, 4, and 5* talent.

So far he's beaten CSU and Central Arkansas. That's better than Embree probably would have done, but not a great sample size. I doubt TU would hire him just based on his success at San Jose State.

  2. The "big name" HCs who have had a lot of success tend to be in a pretty good situation as a result of their success. The HCs with name recognition we may actually be able to get will probably be available because they didn't live up to expectations at their last gig or have a lot of baggage (I think Houston Nutt's name was mentioned in this thread). The first we probably can't get, the second we don't want.

If it eventually comes time to test the market, we're probably looking at a coordinator from a good program or an HC outside of the AQ conferences.

Every coaching hire is a crapshoot.

  3. Bell doesn't seem like the type to run with something unless he thinks it's legit.

If(IF!) this is true was this something the powers that be just found too unseamly to get around? Was it just the last straw for a guy they considered borderline anyway? Were they going back and forth on what to do and after making some calls liked their options?

It's a Facebook page called "Kenny Bell's Hit" created in honor of Kenny Bell's hit in the CCG last year. It's not Kenny Bell.

  4. Bo said he never pursued a job while at Nebraska. Media members are now coming out and saying that is a lie. Thoughts?

    http://www.chicagotr...,2368436.column

On the conf call they had people asking questions from USA Today, ESPN, AP (I believe), Chicago Tribune, and a Nebraska outlet. So that's probably where this comes from. Anyway, I remember the Miami talks but never heard of the Tennessee or Arkansas. It is interesting to hear that though. Wouldn't surprise me if he would've like to go to the SEC for whatever reasons.

Bo said he never pursued another job but he was pursued.

And he stayed for us?

The tape suggests otherwise. Excited utterances may be admitted for the truth of the matter asserted.

  5. I think we've seen the "us against the world" mentality before and the energy, if any, doesn't last. Isn't that the exact attitude Bo was expressing on the tape?

It will be a major distraction for the team this week. If we beat the next few (supposed) creampuffs, things will quiet down for a while. This is a losing situation for everyone at Nebraska. This isn't going to make us a better team. It's not a plot point in a Hallmark movie. Just a really crappy situation.

  6. It goes back to the CCG for me. That was just an awful, awful game. Bo is clearly a better coach than Callahan, but given the context of that game, I can't think of any one of Callahan's losses that hurt more. We were snickered at before that game. We became a punchline after.

UCLA this year was a chance to show that something has changed. It hasn't changed and it gets harder as time goes by to think that Bo really will turn a corner.

  7. Holy cow. This thread is some serious whiplash. Castrate Bo to circle the wagons in 5 hours.

No one looks good in this mess. But good God is Pelini immature with the media. Is it his opinion that anyone who writes something critical of program is evil? If he just cannot handle bad press then we need a team of people to shelter him Truman Show style.

If we're starting a poll on who is the leaker, I vote Cotton. A man can only take so much.

  8. I can't imagine a coach wants to come here when he thinks "Hey, maybe someone I trust will record me in an inopportune situation and release it when I lose a game!"

If that was true, no one would coach in the SEC.

Well, it appears to be true here.

Dude, I'm not saying we need to cut him now, but your defeatism is tiring. This isn't Kansas f*&king State.

  9. He was pissed off and blowing some steam. I get that. I've said a lot worse things about people I respect after a heated meeting. Pretty stupid to do that in a recording studio, though.

What pisses me off is: "'Cause the day is f'ing coming now. We'll see what they can do when I'm f'ing gone." F&*k you, Bo. You haven't built a goddamn thing here. You pissed on the fire Callahan left. That's it. If we boot you, you'll be coaching defensive backs for the Buffalo Bills.

This blows majorly hard for recruiting, though (not that it's been good). A switch has been flipped with the fanbase and a string of wins against the dregs of the Big 10 isn't going to change anything.

  10. You want a previous Husker player on the coaching staff? You want a proven winner? It ain't Frost fellas.

This guy also has previous coaching experience at NU under TO, including DC, has 2 national championship rings as a head coach, has twice been a finalist for the coach of the year, has had numerous players with academic honors, runs his team with a "hard nosed aggressive defense," and a West Coast offense. He'd probably come relatively cheap . . . For the life of me I don't understand why there is not more talk about attempting to get Craig Bohl from North Dakota State University. This guy is a perfect fit.

Can someone explain this to me?

I already have in the Bohl thread. He couldnt get the job done at this level once before as a coordinator. We learned that already. Now and since, he's made his living and a nice legacy as a head coach at a lower level of football. Congrats to him, but I'm not willing to risk our program on finding out whether he's good enough now for this level. We already know he wasnt.

Simply, it's not worth the risk.

Yup. Both Bohl and Solich are good examples of the Peter Principle. They both failed at a higher level and are now doing well at the FCS and MAC levels. Let them be.

  11. How about a man with proven head coaching experience. A man who led a middling program to its greatest heights in decades. A man who can recruit. A man who maybe flew a little too close to the sun but is ready for true redemption.

    PULL THE TRIGGER SHAWN

Oh. Youre a dandy. Your sarcastic hilarity is hilarious.

Thanks! Hey, where's your post/rep point ratio at these days? Haven't heard an update from you in a while.

  13. The reality is and I know it even though it's tough to swallow is that if Bo pulls out another 9-10 win season we'll keep him. The window of opportunity is closing I believe on being able to hire Frost, he's had a very good track record and isn't hurting his resume by what he's doing at Oregon currently.

    Football purgatory.

  14. How about this.

On the bright side, our fans in general but specifically our students showed A+ tremendous class and respect towards UCLA today. The banners, signs and balloons were all wonderful.

Always been my problem with you people, you're too damn nice.

Wasn't a problem when it didn't translate to our play on the field. But now..........well, it does and it seems sort of weak and pathetic. Kinda like the wife that keeps coming back to get beat.

  15. Hey guys help me out here. What's it called when you're in a bad situation and start finding humor and good spirits in bleakness? It's not black humor...I'm fishing around for the term but I can't get it. It would be applicable here, though.

It's one of the stages of depression. Can anybody tell me what I should expect next?

    Gas.

  16. I learned we have a bunch of negative nellies on this board!

Chillax guise. It's just one bad quarter, really. We take that quarter away and we're right in the thick of it. Let's just ignore the third quarter.

I think when the fellas here on the board re-watch the game, they're going to find some real positives we can build on.

You've got to be kidding. How do you write off a whole quarter of football and if you think for a second we held them in the 4th quarter....UCLA just started chewing clock. They had it in the bag and knew it. We were defeated, demoralized...we quit. I can't spin this thing positive...at all. We've played one good full game this year and it was against a team that's currently riding a 15 game losing streak with a new head coach. This team has become an embarrassment....and I'm trying my best to not be too negative cause my BP can't handle it.

I was kind of poking fun at the "it's just 5 bad minutes" argument that made the rounds after Wyoming. If you were here in my office when I read my post out loud before slamming the "Enter" button, you would have picked up on the touch of sarcasm. That's all on you, bud.

  17. 1- I cared more than the players and coaches did. Pretty sure that won't be a problem anymore..

2- Beck goes more Watson than Watson ever did. He needs to go. Get a real OC.

3- Papuchis is not a DC. It's questionable if he should even be a posion coach. He needs to go. Get a real DC.

4- The Nebraska football I used to love is dead. There's no sugarcoating it. We are a team of pussies from top to bottom. Not one set of balls in the whole bunch.

5- We just got dominated and manhandled by UCfuckinLA.

6- We don't have to worry about being embarrassed in another significant game. If we're in a game, nobody will consider it significant.

I'm no sports psychologist, but I play one on message boards. You have to wonder what the last 4 years have done to the culture of this team. The predictable sh**ting of the bed when it counts. The CCGs in 2009, 2010, 2012. Big games during the regular season where our guys played flat. When we get off to a fast start in these big games, I try really hard not to get too excited because I "know" what's coming down the pike. If the fans can feel that, you can be damn sure the players do, too. The inevitability of these "meltdowns" is something the players have to expect.

We've been the Charlie Brown of the CFB world and every other good team with a pulse has been our Lucy. Charlie's going to try to kick the football, but he knows he's going to fall on his ass. He's resigned himself to that fact.
