Holy $hit this thread is great! They keep replying and I can’t keep up lololol. They’re sooooo butthurt

It’s funny. Apparently have a top 10 class going and they aren’t happy.:bang  Maybe players don’t want to play for a team that has morons for fans

  2. My New Years resolution will be to watch the first three games next season.  If it's the same weak stuff then I'll resolve not to watch the rest of the season and do something productive on football Saturdays.  I used to enjoy watching any competitive CFB game but without a team in contention for anything, even that is starting to lose its appeal.

You better do it quick before the Dredge freezes up, instead of that big splash your looking for your just gonna go splat.

The other possibility is if the water isn't deep enough and a muddy bottom slurps him up and unable to get free, he drowns.  A bridge construction worker died that way.  Easy to remember: splat or slurp bad, splash good.

Haha.  I don't know if that should make me take the wins where we find them or cry that it's true and we are towards the bottom......Undefeated B1G West recruit champions!!!!!

It seems to be a recurring theme.  Nebraska, where talent flounders :(

Right.. I am just saying if we are in the 2021 season and trying to justify a 4-8 season based on a "tough schedule," then we will have officially not made even close to the progress we need to have made. At some point we need to close the gap and escalate enough and be able to have good seasons no matter the schedule if we want to be justified in considering ourselves a solid program again. If we can't get there, then I guess we continue to wallow in sadness or jump into dredges, but "tough schedule," arguments won't make it any better.

If we are a top 20 team the schedule isn't tough.  If we are top 40 program, the schedule is tough.  We need to be a top 20 team, if not better.

Exactly,  have some fun people.  Who cares if things turn out below your expectations? It shouldn't affect your life,  and if it does then priorities need to be sorted out.

I was fine with my 7-5 prediction up until a week or two before the season started when I bought into the hype and thought maybe 9 wins was possible.  My gut said the cumulative effect of Pelini and Reliy would not be a short turnaround so 7 wins would be a good season.  A lot of the "hype" was from listening to what the coaches were saying.  I would feel a lot less disappointment now if I had stuck with the lower prediction.  Starting next season I'll expect similar disasters as the last two until the team shows that they are capable of a lot more.

Good defense. Good defense is fun to watch.

I think back to the 2009 Big 12 Championship, or even the 2009 season, and wonder what would have happened if we had even a decent offense. I remember watching games with friends, and we dreaded when the offense was on the field. We always joked Watson was keeping things vanilla to unleash all the good plays at the end of the year. Then they scored 33 or whatever it was against Arizona. Good times

I got to the point where I wanted the offense off the field so we had a chance to score some points, by the defense.

Here's one. The Total Offense ranking of this year's opponents.

    Ohio State   #1

    Indiana  #34

    Wisconsin  #36

    Minnesota  #49

                                  (Nebraska #58)

    Purdue  #79

    Colorado  #84

    Iowa  #98

    N. Illinois  #105

    Maryland  #108

    South Alabama  #113

    Illinois   #119

    Northwestern  #124

There are a lot of reasons for Nebraska's disappointing season. Scott Frost not running Mills enough isn't one of them.

Our 5 wins were against the 5 worst offenses which were all very bad.  Not sure what to make of that other than our defense wasn't good enough to win games by itself.  In other words, we weren't a team where even with an anemic offense the defense was good enough to still win.

I don't think it's about the recruiting classes it's about a whole team quitting on it's previous coach and not buying in to the culture. It's not that difficult to understand.

Wasn't it Minny that had half the team literally quit or threaten to quit because one of their players got suspended over some allegation?  Here it is:  https://www.cnn.com/2016/12/16/us/minnesota-gophers-football-boycott/index.html

Jason Peter has an interesting angle on this.

Tommie can say whatever he wants..he’s earned that right! people making that conversation personal aren’t real fans in my eyes. He gave “everything but his last breath” to this program so I know where he’s coming from. It means something to him, to me..we need players like this!

No clue why mobile isn't giving me the tweet in context but whatever.

I have to agree with Jason.  These guys made the sacrifices required to take the program to the top so I respect them.  I don't have to agree with them but they deserve my attention when they voice an opinion.  I don't feel the need to take potshots at them if I disagree.

The boys played til the end and didn’t give up. I think I would rather have a game where we lose but they played competitively than a blow out loss.

LOL.  I know what you are saying since nothing irritates me more than seeing us give up, but reread your last sentence.  This season has really messed with our heads when we are expressing our preferences in losing

Honestly Knapp I think Frost is playing the long game here...he's thinking in terms of 7 years and not immediate results.  We'll be thankful in the next 2-3 years he did this though I think.

I believe there is some evidence of this.  Frost inherited a team with a lot of problems.  I think there are a couple of basic things that the coaches focused on this season- penalties and turnovers.  We beat Northwestern simply by playing NW ball better than they did.  It sounded like we were good with penalties until late in today's game.  I believe some of Martinez's hesitancy this year is the desire to avoid INTs.  With a more disciplined team maybe they can get the players to execute plays correctly and do the little things that make them more successful.  The playbook is probably limited simply because they can't execute the basics.  It seems like baby steps but nothing seems to improve fast with Nebraska football.

I have no idea what's going on. I know we're not playing our most talented players there, and it doesn't seem to be a heavy focus for these coaches.

But it is.  I remember Trey Neal last year talking about how much emphasis the staff puts on special teams and how he wanted to play on them.  The coaches talked about special teams a lot last year and how important it was to get playing time on them.  I got the feeling special teams were a point of pride at UCF.  Somehow it hasn't transferred over to Nebraska which I guess shouldn't be surprising since we don't play with much pride.  We're losers and its obviously taking a long time to break out of that mindset.  Losers leave 1/2 of the field undefended on kickoffs.

It was SUPER AWESOME watching that from north end zone, where we could clearly see there was NO ONE on the west side of the defense. That returner took two steps forward, cut to his left, and he was goooooooone.

NICE!  I was outside working so it was super awesome NOT seeing it live.

See, this is the thing about special teams.  What seems more likely - Dewitt is coaching them to not defend a whole side of the field OR our players are playing like idiots?

For everyone hating on Frost and his offensive play calling....  Take a look at Iowa's points allowed this year per team.  24 is the most they have allowed.  Plenty of things to second guess but their defense created problems for everyone they faced this year.  Our offense want the issue today.  Our defense and special teams are a topic for other threads.

I saw the highlights and Iowa had a TD on a kickoff return, WTH?  Our special team play is the most concerning.  I haven't paid attention to who is playing on special teams but kickoffs and punts are usually full of hungry young players trying to show that they deserve playing time.  It doesn't bode well for the future.  I'm giving Dewitt the benefit of the doubt because I believe he is smart and is able to point out what the problems are with special teams.  Players need to make plays.  As you say, special teams is for another thread.
