They find ways to implode.(bad play calling, bad passes, special team hell, random bad snaps, no pressure defense, bad tackling...) If you put some skin in the game (gamble), your take would change. We all want NU to win but they are what their record is. Bad.

If we manage to beat MD and the team actually wants to go to a bowl game, the pressure will cause them to implode against Iowa.  We have a better chance of beating Iowa if we lose to MD and the possibility of a bowl game is eliminated.  I don't think we'll beat Iowa so Maryland is a must win if we want to improve from 4-8.

Nate Stanley will be drafted higher than 2AM, IMO.

I actually pretty much agree with this, but it's a little funny because I specifically remember quite a few conversations on here by some people (one might have been brophog) claiming there is no correlation between time of possession and outcome.

Yes it was brophog.  Also "It's an alternate possession game".  He would say it at least twice a week.  I wonder what happened to him.

Edit.  I hope the team didn't drive him into the dredge.

He starts his philosophical musings at the 6:58 mark of this segment

Allow me to summarize.  Benning thinks something Frost said sends out an inconsistent message.  Benning thought Frost should be more like Hitler and PJ Fleck would be his choice as a Josef Goebels in his fantasy Nazi world.  He doesn't like scrambled eggs that are runny.

  4. There are similarities between Cy's description of a bad Iowa St. team and our current Nebraska's team.  Lightbourn shanking a kickoff, players avoiding contact etc...  Definitely some good ideas like the corn cob helmet stickers which I've been calling for for years.  We're already disrespecting Iowa by refusing to wave at the sickly children but Iowa St certainly one upped us by assaulting their band.  After back to back to back 4-8 seasons it's time to shake up the staff and roll the dice.  I endorse Cy's bid for a consultancy.

Which does not bode well for a positive performance against Maryland

Maryland didn't put up much of a fight against OSU so they may have thrown in the towel.  It will probably be a comically poorly played game with each team alternating between thinking they might win to thinking it will require too much effort.  Eventually someone will win but it won't feel like a win.

Exactly...I am not going to be disappointed if we dont make a bowl at this point

I don't think you're alone.  Listening to the players today it sounds like the reality of not going to a bowl game has sunk in and they are ready for the season to end.

  7. Northwestern has 0 conference wins and we have 2.  Northwestern plays Minnesota and Illinois and it's likely they will lose at least one of those games.  So if we lose to Maryland (also next to last in their division) and Iowa we won't be the worst team in the west division.  If NW unexpectedly wins their last two, since we eked out a win over them, we are still not the worst team in the west division!

Has anything more emerged about that one? Sure seemed like Frost went out of his way to point out it was Carlos saying he wasn't healthy, where normally he mentions the trainers' decision or just says "he wasn't healthy enough to go." Weird that it was specifically 'Carlos said he wasn't healthy enough.'

I doubt we'll hear anything more about it.  Hopefully Carlos is made available to reporters this week so he can tell us if he's healthy.  Maybe he'll tell his teammates and they can pass it along to the coaches and reporters.  Of course that could change by Saturday morning.

Teams have dealt with scheme/coaching changes for years and in so many cases transitioned fairly smoothly WITH the existing talent on their rosters.  Maybe the players responded better when not having to hear their coach say they need more talent on the field.

After back to back 4-8 seasons this shouldn't be a message the players have a problem with.  If they are so fragile, they shouldn't be playing at Nebraska.  From Jared Tomich:

    Quote

One of my best memories is when I was a Prop: I would try to come and watch practice. And I didn’t know it, but Coach McBride and his style of motivating? He was telling Terry Connealy and Christian Peter and those guys… he would say, “Hey, you know what? When this kid comes in next year he’s gonna be taking your job.” You know how coach was. So every time I’d come to practice and I’d sit and watch from the bleachers -because that’s all I could do- within the first five minutes I’d hear the footsteps… tap, tap, tap, tap… of their shoes on the steps. I’d look down and they’d be chasing me. Peter and those guys would chase me out of the stadium!

They loved it. They absolutely loved it! They would scare the s#!t out of me and chase me right out of the stadium. And these guys were monsters. You know how they were. (laughs) Yeah, they would chase me out of the stadium every time. If I wanted to watch I had to crawl up and hide to watch practice. And then it wasn’t even worth it. Luckily they were all slow, so I didn’t have to worry about them catching me. (laughing)

Am I saying talent wise things are perfect here?  No.  Are they as bad as some make it out to be??  No.  At the end of last year there was an excitement of who was coming back on both sides of the ball.  Both the coaches and fan base were saying guys have bought in and things were trending upward.  What has happened since then????

Our talent never over performs and lately they've severely under performed.  It seems like every year people bring up incoming recruits or freshmen that will be difference makers but we still end up with disappointing results.  Lately we've completely collapsed.  Something is very wrong in Lincoln.

Cam is physical. Just needs to become a better tackler. NPG needs to get bigger in the offseason. He just isn’t very big right now. But he does bring the wood.

I remember being impressed by a sack Cam had earlier this season.  QB went splat, like a bug on the windshield.  Our whole secondary needs to hit the weight room.

I think Steve Taylor hit the nail on the head.  We have some players in the secondary that are afraid to hit.  A glancing shoulder blow and falling to the ground doesn't cut it in big boy football.  That's certainly not Husker football.  We need to find people who can cover and love to hit and wrap up.

Cam Taylor-Britt seems to play physical.  Noa Pola-Gates might fit the bill.  If Javin Wright plays 2/3 like his father that would be a good start to getting the defense up to the blackshirt standard.  I'm kind of glad we didn't get Bookie.  Watching him now and he's just too little.

Hmm...I think Shatel just wrote a column talking about McBride.  The big difference is McBride had been DC for 13 years in 1993 and led Nebraska to some pretty impressive seasons. In 1993 Nebraska went 11-1 and never gave up more than 28 points in a game.  Chin's team is giving up an average of 30 points a game.  Not a great comparison...

The fans calling for McBride's head were probably on to something by thinking we wouldn't win a NC with McBride.  McBride got help from FSU's staff which TO probably facilitated.  If that didn't happen maybe we would be left pining for the championship years in the 70s.  Frost needs to sort out if it's coaching, talent or both and take corrective action.  I get the feeling he's reached that point.
