  1. So we'll spend several million dollars to add the same amount of seats we already have..? Or am I missing something?

Which is why it will never happen. Unless the idea was more suites and have them closer to the field. But just for regular seats? No way.

  2. I have seen so many people on this board mention upper decks in the end-zones. If you look at the picture of the stadium, there are already too many seats in the end zones, and the end zones go really far up/out. I don't know how something like this could realistically be done.

Not true, in fact, just the opposite. Second deck will be vertical, not horizontal thus closer to the action. Similar to west stadium dimensions and design (less pressbox)

Hey ColoradoHusk, I'm bored ....... my dream project

    SOUTHPROJECT_zpsed3bf8ec.jpg

Existing south stadium was a tinker toy construction thus fairly easy to demolished section by section. 2/3 of first deck still there after final product, only 1/3 destroyed. In fact just leave it .... NO demolished at all. Then simply build the second deck on top of first deck (vertical stacking)

IMO, this is what they should have done (similarly speaking) to the north stadium on the last project. They botched that IMO. What they should have done is put the suites at the top of the old part of that stadium, then built the extra seats as an upper deck on top with extra concessions, restrooms, and exit/entry points. It would have looked much better. It would have been feasible too as they tore down the old field house and all. I could actually live with the south being the only odd part, or north for that matter, if at least one of them fit more with the east and west stadium.

  3. Those upper deck seats are sure cheap considering they're one of the best views in the house.

    They are high!

They aren't that high. They offer great views of watching the plays develop, probably have more legroom, and have easier access to concessions and restrooms. If I had access I would jump all over these tickets.

You'd be surprised how far up there they are, probably about 135 feet above the field. I'm not saying it's not a good view, the seats are right on top of the field. But that's pretty far up there.

Is it just me or does that new upper deck seem really dangerous? The steps look extremely steep. I just am imagining someone tripping and falling down the stairs, over the railing and down on to the first level seats? I know there have been instances of fans falling over railings at other stadiums.

Again, no different than any modern pro stadium. And if you saw the work going on in the upper deck, you would notice that they put railings between every row of seats.

No different than any new pro stadium out there. I have sat in the upper deck at Mile High (Sports Authority) and it isn't bad at all, and it's up there, and steep.

  6. does anyone else find it funny that they added a new logo... and we never see it? i don't at least. I get it.. it's a sh**ty logo and nobody wanted it to begin with. But why even add it if no one is gonna acknowledge it?

    reminds me of

    WendysNewLogo.jpg

Well I think it's an upgrade over the cursive Huskers which is straight from the 80's, very dated. With that being said I think it could have definitely been better.

  7. This light green tone is better.

And indeed, as has been speculated, it is a little darker of a light green per John Ingram.

“The lighter green is not quite as light as the light green we put in in 2005,” Ingram said, confirming what Husker fans on social media have been saying about leaked pictures for more than a week. “I prefer this one. Looks a bit more like a freshly mowed grass. I think fans will really like it. By design, we wanted it to look more like real grass. The lighter green before was a little bit too light.”
  8.

Rubber is still the main material used. There is just cork mixed in. I believe someone said it was about 30% cork.

Maybe I am just reading this wrong or drawing the wrong conclusions. But it seems like the rubber is just a base layer and the entire top layer is cork. So it would seem the rubber layer isn't going to be all that, if at all visible. I could be wrong and have no idea how this will affect the color vibrancy of the field. That Tulsa video that was posted earlier though seemed to be a lighter shade once the cork was in, instead of that blackish darker hue you get on the traditional field turf system.

    OWH:

The new FieldTurf doesn't require as much sand for the base — 40,000 fewer pounds, in fact — and the recycled tires previously used for the top layer of the field will be replaced by small granules of cork.

As coaches and players could attest over the years, the black rubber pellets — which will still be part of the base component — could generate quite a bit of heat in a September sun, raising on-field temperatures by several degrees.

The cork layer — called the CoolPlay system — is billed to be 35 degrees cooler and provide better shock absorption than typical rubber. The University of Maryland was the first school to install CoolPlay last August. Tulsa installed one earlier this year.

  9. I was going to screencap these and host them but I don't want the board to get in trouble.

Omaha World Herald has a photo gallery up:

    http://odc.omaha.com...age=5002&p=4653

In here they say the red appears brighter because they haven't added the sand and rubber pellets yet, which they appear to be doing today.

    Darn, I liked it bright.

They aren't using rubber though this time, they are using cork. Since cork is lighter than rubber in color I am wondering if it will have a less dulling effect on the color of the turf. IMO, it will make the turf look more lifelike, instead of a blackish hue it will have a browner hue, giving it the appearance of maybe some browner grass.

  10. Another pic, hot off the presses:

Did some updating and this is what would happen if I was put in charge of designing the PBA floor/Memorial Stadium turf:

    PS4nKWV.jpg

    -Remove multi-turf

-Add 'Tom Osborne Field' which was on the turf for one season in 1998

WHEN AM I GETTING COMPENSATED, ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT?

Wish they would have stolen this idea instead.

  11. Great photos, Landlord and Ed Helms. I know wild ideas (as usual) but I was wondering about lowered field level. Difficult? Too large wheel tractor-scraper machine inside the stadium?

    Darrel Royal Stadium

1999 - New seats added to the west grandstand and the field was lowered seven feet to accommodate new front-row and field-level seats on the east and west grandstands, bringing capacity to 80,082

Not sure I understand what you are getting at. Are you saying they should lower the field level at Memorial? That's just not possible unless they rip out the endzone stands and rebuild. That's already been addresses in this thread, but long story short, the endzone seats would have no perspective of the endzones from the higher up seats. And really, what would be the point. The endzone seats are already right against the playing field.

  12. Fair enough on all. Couple thoughts and couple questions. Is that Bama uni for the upcoming season? I haven't seen them do this before. My thought on it too is it's basically their uni with sublimated houndstoothing in the stripes and numbers. Such a minimal change I wouldn't think many people would even notice. Regarding UT, I figured the Texas on the hip was in honor of DKR since he just passed. Otherwise, it really just looks like a throwback to me other than the tramp stamp.

RE: the flag. Learn something new everyday. I was not aware of that. I look at a lot of concepts and you see people make these kinds of mirror mistakes quite a bit so that's what I figured it was.

Edit: was never making the argument that these teams didn't wear a "procombat" uniform, just that the design wasn't any different.

  13. Well, I guess Alabama is showing weakness every time they wear their Pro Combat uniforms, then.

Pretty sure Alabama hasn't worn an alternate design though, the cut may be pro combat, but the design is their traditional design. I've seen PSU and Texas in this argument as well and pretty sure they haven't done anything different design wise either. This isn't an argument for or against NU doing it on my part, just a clarification more or less. My objection to the alternates NU is wearing is that there is black in them.

    Wrong on both counts.

    Alabama's:

Not to argue the point here, but that Bama uniform looks like a concept from a concept forum, I meanm the American flag is backwards for chrissakes. And the UT uni is a throwback is it not (the only difference is the number above the logo on the helmet, which they used to do)?
