Very nice update. Thanks. I am heading up for the Minnesota game and can't wait to see this thing in person.
-
Someone posted over on Huskermax that there is a sound system upgrade going along with the east stadium expansion. That is the first I have heard of this. Has anyone else heard that?

Pretty sure the building across from the arena is the hotel portion of a big hotel/apartment project. Hyatt Place I think.
You thinhk so? The renderings don't match the skeleton structure.
It is. There was an article in the Journal Star a couple of weeks ago about that construction getting underway. Hard to tell though if this is the hotel part (which is in the far portion of the rendering) going up or the far north part (that's closest in the rendering) which are lofts I think.

Very nice update knap!! Been killing me not seeing any progress the last few weeks so this is much appreciated.
Regarding the concrete forms on the upper deck, I wonder if most of that will be done between the UW game next week and the next home game with UM a month later. I would think they would want to get the cranes out of there asap so the structure can be fully enclosed prior to winter, and to do that I would think that upper deck needs to be complete. Thoughts?

Great pics, and thanks to all for sharing.
I still cannot get beyond a simple idea.
That top deck, and how cold it will be, during a night game in late November.
Seems brutal.
I'll happily watch from my couch here in Tampa.
Stadium looks great though, can't wait to see it finished. With my luck, next time I am in town, a friend will offer me seats. In the top row. In November. For a night game.
Again, it's not like this is any higher than the pro stadiums out there. Then there is the fact that the B1G doesn't do night games in November, unless that changed this year.

You like two video screens? Myself, tear it down because hidden traditional pillars. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think pillars inscribed words such as "Not the victory but ..........."
The inscriptions face out of the stadium, not covered by the screens.

I have a feeling that we may not see the bulk of the concrete forms go in until after the season and they can remove the lights.
This is very possible, however, there may be a good opportunity to complet concrete forms and moving lights between the Wisconisn and Michigan games (9/29 all the way to 10/27 between home games).

Here's a shot of one balloon just after launch, and an inside-the-stadium shot of the expansion:
It's weird, I know they said the ironwork is done, yet it looks unfinished on the upper deck. Apparently there is no structural need for iron cross bars at the top of the stands all the way across, and were it comes down into that far north light. Also notice that the concrete forms are starting in front of the lights there.

Thanks guys!

anyone have an update? Even if it's just verbal. What new has happened over the past 2 weeks?
-
Did anybody get any good pics from this weekend?
-
For those that went to the game I am just wondering if the expansion held in the sound better? Or will it take that actual concrete forms and people in seats to actually do that?
-
Just talked to one of the iron workers and the East Stadium has reached max height. No more iron going up, so from now on the pics will be more cosmetic than construction.
There's a ceremony today to commemorate the completion of the structural phase. Sadly, my invitation must have been lost in the mail.
Any idea when the concrete forms for the upper deck will be going in?

I'll believe it when I see it. Although I hope I am wrong, that would indeed be awesome. I heard all this from the owner of the Watering Hole. Said same thing happened to them during their remodel. They wanted to open up the upstairs and make it an open beer garden (facing O st) but the city would not approve their liquor license if they did.
Call me crazy, but I would think that the new owners of Barry's would have ensured they were able to get the necessary permits prior to dumping a whole bunch of money on a rooftop bar.

Ah, never been there so I wouldn't know about their other buildings.
I ran through campus with an alum this morning and sure enough, many of thier buildings look like castles....or something out of North Korea. It'll end up matching their theme. I just don't understand why they broke ground so late, it was a pretty mild winter.
K-State alum here. I think the campus there is very pretty with a lot of nice buildings. I thought KSU screwed up when they built the new stadium and the new coliseum as opposed to leaving them down on campus by the union. However, their reno will help tie it in architecturally speaking. As far as the late start, pretty sure they wanted to secure a certain percentage of funding prior to breaking ground.

Kansas State has been working on their stadium for a while. They're turning it into a castle.
Note: Picture is actual size.
Are they also going to sell tiny cheeseburgers?
That's retarded?! Where's the connection there??? Have no idea how a castle themed stadium goes with the Wildcats...................then again it is KSUcks.
Matches a lot of the architecture on the campus. For example:
Nichols Hall.
However, the underlying premise that KSU sucks still stands.

They are starting to put the roof trusses in over at the arena. Check out here.

Aesthetically it's a nice addition for them, really matches the rest of campus, in particular Nichols Hall. Not sure they'll be able to sell all the additional suites et al.

Awesome Knapp! Ask and ye shall receive! Looks like they have started the brickwork on the north side of the expansion, very cool.
-
Knapplc, are you gonna have some spare time to get some pics this weekend? Much appreciated and understand if you don't have the time.
-
What will this expansion push the seating capacity out to?
A shade over 90,000
-
It isn't much, but a view from the new video booth.

The lights will be moved at the end of the season. They are just temporary. I dont think they are going to have enough of the structure complete by the first game to put them in their permanent postions.
I'm pretty sure external construction will nearly cease during the season. They're very far along on the external shell, so slowing down for the season won't hurt the timetable a bit.
Maybe I misheard, but didn't they say in the video the shell will be done by the time the season starts?
-
Very cool. So the shell will be done and almost entirley closed in by the first game. So why did they put the lights where they did?

The arena sits a few yards directly to the west of the Post Office.
