I don't think we are giving up, but it's discouraging to see NU suffer the 2nd worst loss (in terms of scoring margin) in program history. After last year's debacle of a season, a lot were encouraged by the start of this year's team. But, last night showed how far NU has to go to compete at a top level. That competition is in terms of talent and coaching.

I don't think the coaching is nearly as bad as many people think. We simply don't have the talent to compete with the Ohio St's and Alambama's of college football and our offensive line is really banged up. It's hard to win games when your line is trashed.

I guarantee you a GREAT coach doesn't get rolled like that. Rileys offense has been inconsistent everywhere he's been. Good 1 qtr, bad for 2, that's not winning football. I'm not sure that will ever change under him. It's why he's a .500 coach.

  2. Urban Myer...What a class Act...Going for on 4th 1 up 45 to 3 They come to lincoln next year..I sure hope we have a better Defense and can return the favor....

Osborne routinely did this. They are trying to win a championship. No problem here. GET BETTER.

  3. Which had some very good offenses? If we had the 08 offense two years ago we are national champions. Last year we would have been 13-1.

EDIT: Let me add I'm not saying Callahan was here in 08  , but it was his players with his coordinator

All of those offenses sucked balls when they were ever forced to do anything. They were S T U F F E D by every good defense it saw. The 2008 offense sucked as well. It was nothing when it had to be. Hate to be negative, but none of those offense were any good whatsoever!

  4. That's why we shouldn't peg the Big 10 as slow when we were consistently pegged the same way until after we played the games.

I can only base things on what I see, and outside OSU, the Big 10 is slow on overall team speed. Hell, Wisconsin's TB's are high 4.5 to 4.6 guys, just bruiser type backs. Your not gonna get the edge on the fast teams, period.

  5. Surely you're old enough to remember the hype around the bowl games in 1993, 1994, 1995 & 1997, when we played FSU, Miami, Florida and Tennessee, all south teams with big speed advantages over Nebraska (so it was claimed). I seem to recall our "corn fed smash mouth" football team having no trouble keeping up with FSU in 93, and I think you remember quite well who was gassed and gasping for breath on the sidelines in the Orange Bowl in 94. If that didn't convince you, trouncing SEC teams Florida and Tennessee in 95 and 97, both times featuring elite speed when the rap on Nebraska and the Big 8 was that we were these big, slow ground-pounders, should have.

We will not suddenly become a Ferrari amongst Pintos in this conference. Every game is going to be a dogfight. We just have to be the tougher dog.

Those NU teams in the 90's were as fast as anyone. Once we moved away from the big slow concept starting in 1993, no one was claiming we couldnt run. We ran a punishing style of offense with fast athletes and an attacking, agressive style of defense with smaller, faster athletes. I'm way old enough to remember those teams, trust me. Also, I never said NU was gonna win each and every game in the Big 101112, it probably wont, but it will have an an overall speed advantage in team speed over just about anyone it plays. Wisconsin's defense doesnt run like NU's does, neither does Iowa, or Michigan, or Michigan State, or Penn State. Ohio State may be the lone exception.

  6. You realize TCU was only held in the 20's twice last year and the lowest score they got was by who? (not that Wiskey did all that great in that game either) Missery hung 36 on OK but could only put up 24 on a depleated Iowa? And Missery could only get 23 on ILL. I would say that's pretty good for a big heavy slow run stopper/power run big ten would'nt you? I just think you are trying to make something out of nothing. Infact all the numbers I and creed have posted say otherwise. If you look it up and compare speed, besides a few smaller people like Denard and T-mart, almost all of them match up pretty evenly for speed. I am not saying there is not an exception now and again, but overall it's a misconception about the b10.

I am also finding this argument increasingly hard, first you are talking about LB's, now you are talking about the O's running the ball.

Oh common man, TCU played a schedule full of cream puffs. Lets not make TCU out to be some world beater, they aren't. Wisconsin was by far and away the best team they played. Those two teams have comparable athletes, it was a close game, just like it should have been. Its fair to say we disagree on this issue. I have always thought the Big 10 was a slow confrence as a whole, and I stand by that. The Big 10 does not run like the SEC or the Big 12 or even the Pac 12. There are exceptions, but they are far few in between.

  7. Anybody bother to look up say OK, Nebraska, Iowa or any other teams LB's? I have a very good idea, but thats kinda my thing (from what I know almost all teams LB's are 200 to 230). But.......... I am not here to argue, but sometimes it's frustrating and gets the best of me. I admit, I came off a little harsh. I am glad that thru your own memories of players, you can see it to.

Feel free to come off however you want to, I can take it. I stand by what I said about Wisconsin being an overall slow team. It goes for the entire Big 10. Watch them play. I mean, most of the teams in the Big 10 lack overall team speed and it really shows in Bowl season every year. They prefer a bruising, grinding style of play, which is fine, but come time to play a team that can really run, they have serious issues. Ohio State is probably the fastest team in the Big 10, and they even look a bit slow at times. Just because you put in a 200lb LB, doesnt mean he can run. It's a HUGE reason why the Big 10 has 2 NC's in over 40+ years (and both of those were flukes). They just cannot run. These teams are gonna have trouble with the team speed NU presents. Sorry, the truth cuts deep at times!

  8. want to point out that NU will have to go up against Michigan State, Northwestern, Michigan, Penn State and Iowa back to back to back to back to back without a week off in between games.

No different than last year when it faced KSU, Texas, Oklahoma State, and Mizzou.

  9. Let me give you a simple thing to smoke in your little 10 pipe. National Championships in the past 16 years in the big 12, three (3). National Championships in the last 40+, FORTY years in the little 10, two, (2), and both were questionable. Ohio State needed a phantom pass interference penalty just to get to overtime and Michigna would have been CRUSHED, smoked, obliterated by NU in 1997 had they been part of the "great games" alliance series back in 1997. If you want the Big 8 to go back 40 years, its extremely lopsided, 12-2, 12-2 :nutz . It would be 12-4 if you counted Penn States 2, but they were an independent and not part of the little 10. At any rate, still, completely lopsided nonetheless. Hmmmmmmm, which confrence has been better? I guess i'm not so "dumb" after all.

The BIG just got better by adding Nebraska to it, and the Big 12 just got weaker losing CU and NU. Nebraska is just about back to health after the catostrophic hire of Clownahanbergervicblake.

  10. To say, "and yes, Nebraska used to be big and slow," when you're referring to the 1990's is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard. Nebraska was big, strong, bruising, and lightining fast. Not even remotely slow.

NU was big and slow, although faster than what Wisconsin is now up until 1993, when the staff made a change for the better and installed speed and smaller LB's and DE's. I'm not stupid. Keep on livin your Wisconsin dream. They are average. And yea, OU or Okla State would have laid the wood to them last year. Pointless to argue this. I believe the entire Big 10 in fairly weak on a regular basis, less OSU, its why they constantly get rolled in bowl games. Nebraska has not been great, we all know as much. They have the potential to be great and IMO, Wisconsin does not. Wisconsin gets as much as possible out of the talent they have. Credit them for that, but they are nothing special.

  11.

When you say that they were beaten by "freakin" TCU, are you forgetting that TCU was a top 5 team? Are you perhaps forgetting that NOBODY beat TCU last year?

When everybody repeatedly says that Nebraska has the best team speed in the conference except for Ohio State, seeing video of Wisconsin absolutely bulldoze the Buckeyes doesn't exactly make me think they're some big, slow team that we're just going to run circles around. (And by the way, "big and slow" is what people called Nebraska in the 1990's. Just because a team likes to run the ball from under center doesn't make them slow. Montee Ball and James White look plenty fast to me).

And seriously? You're coming to this discussion with their "average rivals rating?" Who gives a crap how many stars scout.com gave their recruits? They are the Big 10 Champions until somebody unseats them.

The Big 10 is not going to be that much tougher than the Big 12. It also won't be that much easier. I'm not afraid of Wisconsin, but for God's sake don't take them lightly. They were a better team in 2010 than every one of the four teams that beat Nebraska.

TCU was a nice team, they beat no one, except Wisconsin. There were no GREAT teams last year, none. Wisconsin has a lack of team speed. Yes, they do a nice job of running down hill. After the first quarter of the OSU game, OSU outplayed them. Wisconsin got off to a good start. ASU missed 2 extra points, yes they should have lost that game. The Big 10 has been weak for decades. I give you Wisconsin has a good home field advantage, but they are nothing special. And yes, NU used to be big and slow, just like most everyone else, notw, that is just in the Big 10, thats why they get smoked every year in bowl games.

Rivals ratings are not the end all, but your not gonna win a National Championship with an average star rating around 2.90 and a 4 year ranking in the mid to upper 40's. Wisconsin would have NOT beat OU last year, and they would have had there hands completely full with A&M. They are slow on defense and quite simple on offense. I dont take them lightly, but they are nothing special, period. Suggesting they are some terrefic powerhouse is nonsense!

  12.

Again, Wisconsin won their conference last year, and they went to a BCS game. Nebraska has done neither in 10 years. So can we please stop acting like we're going to "roll" them? We lost even more players than they did to the NFL draft. If you're not worried about the Wisconsin game, then what are you worried about? That's the toughest game on the schedule, no matter what anybody says about Ohio State.

We'll see. I think they are nothing more than an average team playing in a horrid confrence. Thier average rivals rating the past 4 years is in the mid to upper 40's. They do NOT have a roster chock full of talent. They have a new qb, 3/5 of an OL, and only return 10 starters overall. They are also big, slow and lack overall team speed. They have a nice home field advantage, and they are coached well. I give them that. They also should have lost to ASU, and Iowa and were beaten by freakin TCU. Again, I fail to see the love, but whatever. If Wisconsin is the toughest team in the Big 101112, NU will own this confrense soon!

  13. Wisconsin is the defending conference champion. They're a good football team.

There a "nice" team, nothing more. Who cares if they won the confrence last year, its irrelevant to this year. They lost thier QB, 3/5 of the OL, and 2 NFL draft choices on the defense. They are a big, slow, bruising team. Like I said, I just dont see all the love for Wisconsin. I think NU rolls them!

Husker in Oklahoma.......is this the same dude from years ago on HP? If so, GREETINGS old friend! I hope things are well you ......

    GBR!!

Yes sir. Things are well bshirt. Hope your doing well to my friend. You should come on over and check out huskermax. Its all good. Dont post here much, but do read the board from time to time. I really do not understand all this Wisconsin love. It makes me laugh.

  14. Wisconsin is the defending conference champion. They're a good football team.

  15. Personally, I dont get all the Wisconsin stuff. I mean, this is the most overated, slow team ever. These guys havent seen speed like NU will bring. I think Wisconsin is a win, maybe handily. I dont get the MSU stuff either. State won 4 or 5 games last year they could have easily lost, they got all the breaks last year. It wont happen 2 years running. I see NU winning the Big 101112. Ohio State is in chaos, and thier chemistry will most definately be affected. Nebraska will have a defense that is really, really good. Probably be hard for teams to score much, and with what the O has been the past several years, in can only go North IMO. I'd say the record is anywhere between undefeated and 2 losses. I think this could be a special season. Most probable losses will be Michigan (they will be much better by playing better defense alone) and Penn State.

  16. Class. But about 15 years too late. Words are cheap, Mr. Prez. Where were you when the OU-NU rivalry was butchered?

The ou program just reeks of second rate trash. The OU brass, along with Deloss Dodds, pretty much caused this whole mess. Screw the cheating bastards and thier probation riddled program. I hope they fall into the big black hole they deserve. Once again, never did understand all the "lovefest" for OU with NU fans. Makes no sense.

  17. I also live in Okc and was theatened if NU won, I would get the crap beat put of me.

What part of town do you work/live?

Edmond. I wouldnt worry about OU. There fans are just like thier program. Riddled with cheating. Never understood NU fans pulling for OU in football. They have been on probation more times than one can count, and then they name buildings after cheaters (Switzer Center) as if, oh well, we know he cheated, but who cares, we are OU.

So, the real motivation for your post comes out: you don't know or likely care what the real consensus is among most OU fans, but simply don't like OU, consider them "cheaters," etc., etc., and decided to take a cheap shot. That is a concession to my points above, of a backhanded sort. My discussion with you is concluded.

To all the rest of the Husker fans: it's going to be a great game, and I look forward to watching it with you in Jerryworld. Our two schools have some of the greatest tradition, and best fans anywhere.

Since when is a cheapshot the truth? I mean, OU fans pull all this crap out of thier butts and they ALL forget thier cheating past. You guys (factually) have more probations than just about anyone other that Alabama. OU doesnt even acknowledge thier cheating past, thay embrace it, for that, yea, I don't have a bunch of respect for the OU program.

  18. I do think he is leaving and does want out. I think other players want him out, but some of this crap is a little far fetched IMO.

Yes, but why? Why on earth would you want to leave when you have the world by the tails and you are a household name as a freshman? I just don't get it. I mean, can anyone be this ignorant/stupid? :bang
