  1. manuel allen's ranking fell off a cliff in some places after he decommitted from usc as well. it doesn't fit the narrative as to where all the good players go. obviously good players wouldn't want to play at nebraska, so clearly their rankings for them were far too high. if bookie was really as good as they had him ranked originally he obviously would have picked alabama, usc, ohio state, etc.

  2. anybody else watching the SEC network and laughing? i think this has the beginnings of an excellent drinking game. i might have to record finebaum so i can play when i finish making up the rules. drink every time you laugh, every time they make an excuse, etc.

  3. gordon and the wisconsin offensive line are pretty good.

we need to make some major adjustments on defense before the minny game, although we did create some turnovers.

we really need to learn how to tackle better.

    we still can't throw.

it wouldn't have mattered, but beck still likes to go away from the run on early downs while we're ahead for no apparent reason.

    at least we stopped clapping.

our best player today might have been our punter.

  4. Terrible thing to say, nonetheless put out there on this board for other recruits to read.

i would like to think he means that it is karma for ole miss and their questionable recruiting tactics, which some of the more widely known specifically involve treadwell. either way, classless or at the very least thoughtless comment on his part. i hate seeing anyone seriously hurt, and would like to think everyone else does as well.

  5. Awesome idea for a graph. +1. Not sure of the data behind it. If I read the graph correctly our recruiting is about the same as aTM, Clemson and UCLA, but we're doing better on the field. Uh, I don't think so. lol

i know aTm and ucla aren't very far removed from bad seasons, which we haven't had since clownahan left. not sure how far back this is doing averages for, but that could have something to do with it.

  6. I've seen this non sense in last week or so.

    1)gurley

    2)hill

    3)Cooper.

    4)mariota

    5)Winston

    6)AA.

Until all 3 of the sec players have a loss or a bad game AA chances are slim to none. Even thou I think he's the best RB this year

So what. Does this tell me ?? ESPN hell bent on making this award a SEC award.

i heard some of the talking heads on espnu today give gurley the leg up because of his pass catching ability... he has 9 catches for 29 yards this year.

  7. we wouldn't make it in with a loss, but a 1 loss MSU would have a chance based on the preseason presumptions about the teams. a #2 sec would beat us out even if fsu or oregon falls off. i would like to think the committee wouldn't look at it this way, but i can't bring myself to do it. if we want to make the playoffs this year, it's going to require 13-0. with that being said, it's way too early to look at 13-0. let's worry about 6-0 first, and go from there.

  8. There are state laws but then again there company/school guidelines. They might not always agree.

I would pick alcohol over marijuana. Marijuana stays in your system longer. If the substance becomes a problem then I would pursue more aggressive testing.

THC (marijuana) stays in your system longer because your body doesn't consider it to be a bad thing. alcohol and the other illegal drugs are out of your system in a few days because your body views it as poison, and as such tries to purge it as quickly as possible. it tries to hold on to THC, which should tell you all that you need to know about how bad they are for you. if we're going on a strictly "how bad is it for you" scale, alcohol is much worse. the only real danger from marijuana is damage to your lungs, and there are ways to ingest THC that no longer require you to smoke it. you shouldn't smoke it and drive around, but you shouldn't after drinking either, which we all know is a common enough occurrence.

I could care less if the sellout streak ended, if that would leave to a more rowdy crowd or something along those lines then I would be fine with that. I would prefer the streak to live and have a rowdy crowd. I don't want to be the only person in my section that stands up and yells.

Because when I see a partially filled stadium,my first thought is, "damn, that's a rowdy fanbase!"

as much as i love the sellout streak, i would rather see memorial stadium with 70k people like me in it a lot more than 92k of the people who are there now telling me to sit down. if i can drive 16 hours to see the huskers play, while usually having to ridiculously overpay to buy tickets secondhand (see the cost on your ticket? i've had to pay up to 1000% of that, and i consider it worth every penny), then you can damn well stand up for 3 hours and make some noise.

If that is what you're paying for a ticket, then the joke is on you. You can buy entire season tickets for $392 or you can get them outside the stadium for like $25 per game.

Don't act like you're a super fan because you decide to pay $90,000 for a Honda Civic when every other dealer is selling the same car for $15,000.

never been able to get season tickets, although i would love to, and i'm not traveling 1k miles without already having a ticket in hand and hoping for the best with scalpers. i doubt you would either. that basically left stubhub (or similar) as my options. it also doesn't help that i only make the trip for big games. ohio st, wisky, ucla, etc. that drives the price up considerably.

never claimed to be a super fan, just using an analogy to say that it isn't too much of a burden to stand up and make noise as opposed to telling the people that do to sit down. apologies if it came across as smug. yet another reason not to drink and type.

  11. I've noticed many of the players the coaches have offered lately also have offers from Harvard, Yale, Duke and the Vanderbilts.

i've noticed that based on the last few years we might need to look into getting really tall QBs. another 6'8" guy? do some of these guys want to play nebrasketball too? we might look really competitive soon.

  12. not very surprised by this. we don't exactly have the privilege of doing the majority of our recruiting locally, so travel expenses are going to be higher for us than many other places on the recruiting trail. 1k miles to the deep south, close to that to texas, even further to california or florida, and costs start adding up quickly.

But, I know personally, it's hard to feel bad for someone who has their college education completely paid for as well as other aspects of their college life. That scholarship may be undervalued to some, but not to me.

agreed, but there are other aspects to this that many people don't consider. in the B1G, scholarships are guaranteed for 4 years. that isn't the case in many places around the country. i live in georgia, and there is quite a big difference in a scholarship to play football at nebraska and a scholarship to play football at an $EC school. those are on a year by year basis, and DON'T guarantee you will be able to receive a degree. if you aren't one of the 85 best players, they pull it. if you fall out of the depth chart, they pull it. if you get hurt and someone takes your job, they pull it. on top of all that, if you do happen to be around long enough to get a degree, it might still be worthless. many of the schools here won't let you major in what you want to if they have any doubts as to whether or not you can complete the degree program without falling to an academically ineligible status. throw on top of that the possibility of a catastrophic head or neck injury that will require long term medical care (which of course the school won't pay for) and it isn't always as good of a deal as it's made out to be.

in principle, i agree though. i don't necessarily think we should pay the players, but i do think there needs to be a lot of reform in what a scholarship is required to include. if they all guaranteed 4 years, could put no restrictions on what sort of classes players could take, and would force the school to pay any medical bills related to an injury suffered in a game or practice (no matter how long that involves) then i see no reason to provide any additional compensation. we still have a long way to go before everyone is doing something even resembling that though.

  14. Two of Stewart Mandel's nine answered letters were about Bo Pelini's contract extension in the latest Mailbag.

Stewart, with everything you've written about Bo Pelini and Nebraska recently, you've got to be surprised by the news of Pelini's contract extension, right?

    -- Steve, Strongsville, Ohio

No, not really. He got a one-year extension, the bare minimum show of confidence an athletic director can offer. It was probably necessary to reassure recruits. But good for Pelini. He could use a little love right now, as Tim Miles' Nebrasketball is the hottest show in town.

The Bo Pelini contract extension. Five words. Go.

    -- James, Asheville, N.C.

    Five more years of @FauxPelini!

Neither from Nebraska. Confirms what I have experienced here in California: no one outside Nebraska fans can believe he's still coaching here.

interesting, because here in georgia the few uga fans i know who are aware that football is played outside of the south would like to trade coaches with us... and that was before the gator bowl.
