  1. Obviously a very tough loss for the program. I'll never wish anything bad on people who transfer, as they all have their reasons for doing it. Here, it seems as if there was a family medical issue as well as other voices in his head. You can't fault someone for putting their family first as he has. Wan'Dale will be one of the few transfers we've had that I'll make sure to keep an eye on in his future. He gave his all to this team every game and took some heavy punishment for it at times. He wore the scarlet and cream proudly and was nothing but class off the field as well. Best of luck to him in the future!

  2. I knew clicking on this thread was going to be an absolute dumpster fire filled with bad takes and it did not disappoint.

These kids have followed all COVID protocols and were one of the few Big Ten teams to not have any shutdowns this year because of it. That took a lot of hard work and had to have been so draining. They just finished off a 3-5 season with a win. I know that's not what fans were hoping for, but even more so, I can guarantee that's not what they were hoping for. This isn't a normal year where a bowl game would get you multiple extra weeks of practice and a game plus all the festivities that come along with the trip. They would've got an extra week (plus a few days) of practice and a game. Compare this to getting to go see your family for Christmas after this grueling year and I don't think it was a hard decision at all. If you think an extra week of practice and a fairly meaningless game is changing the trajectory of this program, I just don't see it. I would argue getting their mental health right by being with family over the holidays is more beneficial.

In the end, I just think we all need to have a little more empathy for everything that these coaches and players went through this year. It's a trait that gets lost on us a lot of times.

  3. There's sometimes a blurry line between fact and opinion but in this case there just isn't. The fact is that this virus is exponentially growing in our country and communities as expected and if we don't take the necessary precautions as we are being advised to by the medical experts who actually spend their careers researching these exact scenarios, a lot of people will die. If you choose to be ignorant to that, it's on you. But do know that your ignorance can be the direct result of people contracting this virus and spreading it potentially causing actual deaths. We have evidence from other countries to see how this plays out if we don't treat it like the threat that it is.

  4. Anyone not taking this thing seriously at this point are purposely blinding themselves. It doesn't take a whole lot of research to see how this can go badly (Italy, Spain, etc.....) and it appears we are on the same trajectory. People from those countries have been begging people to listen to them and their warnings about what can happen. Please just listen to people who are a million times smarter on this subject and have dedicated their careers to this subject. Almost unanimously they are all saying that this is a big deal because it is. Sorry for what may seem like an incoherent ramble, but it drives me crazy to see people who are still not taking this seriously because it hasn't affected them or their personal bubble yet.

Can the mods make a by-law that we don't talk about the 2018-19 season and only discuss the following year so that conversations can try to make a couple posters happy.

I completely agree. These Husker Hoops boards are getting to become nearly impossible to come to and read anymore because of the constant pessimism. We had a good year last year unexpectedly which should be cause for hope, and then now this year we return the main core of the team and the majority of outsiders pick us to continue that success and have another good year. This is as much optimism as there has been around the program in quite some time, and I think most people can clearly say this year's team is significantly different than the 2014-2015 team in that you can easily see the sustained success. But yet you come to this board and the majority of the talk is negative and looking past this year. Just enjoy what we have now and worry about the years after later. This is a good time to be a Husker Hoops fan.

I have never watched a match and not seen the +5 (or whatever) shown beside the clock when it has gone to extra time.  I am not doubting that you have encountered that, so that explains your confusion.

I watch a pretty significant amount of soccer and the +5 (or whatever) has always been there. Could see how it would be confusing if you were watching a match where this was not there though.

We see this kind of brainwashing right here on HuskerBoard.  Trump's followers refuse to even take part in discussions surrounding his scandals, instead posting little snippets of angry rhetoric, then running away when the "liberals" post facts in response.

When all you consume is propaganda, it becomes real to you.

I honestly think this article has a lot to do with this whole situation

  8. That's a very powerful article and sadly more true than it should be. Until we do something about this problem, whether it be funding more mental health research to diagnose the issue, passing common sense legislation such as not allowing those that are mentally ill to legally purchase a gun, or as a society becoming more informed voter and getting people in Washington that will better represent their constituents, the question will always remain......WHO, WHERE, and HOW MANY? That's something I don't want to accept and I hope Americans around the country agree.

  9. The one thing I see continuously get brought up in this thread is that there is an assumption people want to ban guns or just simply assault weapons completely. While in my opinion, I think banning these types of weapons would help tremendously as evidence by countries all over the world, that is not what most are arguing. We have to start somewhere with this issue because it is one that is too hard to ignore anymore, and quite frankly should have been a long time ago.

Is it really that outlandish to start requiring more background checks to obtain these types of weapons? Is that too much of a hassle for law-abiding citizens to take part in? Sure, the people with intentions to carry out these acts will more times than not find a way to still obtain the weapons. But if it can even stop one of these tragedies or even save just one life is it not worth it? People get too focused on the idea that people are coming to take their guns, and that just isn't the case at all. Most people just simply want tighter restrictions and common sense laws that can help to START combating these issues. Nothing will change overnight but we have to start moving forward with ways to stop these unbelievable tragedies. When each one becomes less and less shocking, there is a major problem. Sorry for the rant........

wow...we are a long ways from in according to that.   i thought we would be a bit closer

Just crazy to me that Maryland could be ahead of us according to that. I know it's been said over and over again in here that the committee doesn't look at conference record but come on, they are 4-7 in the conference and 2-6 in their last 8 games. I don't know in what world they should be considered higher than us in anyone's rankings.

    We lose by 15+

NU has been horrible from day one of the Tim Miles era.. yes, I know about the one year blip.

Pretty quite from this guy during and after the game....

Regardless it was good to see this team go out and execute a game plan tonight. It was clear we made it a focus to defend hard and take out their bigs. I thought we did a real good job at it. This team is gonna go as Watson goes and he had it tonight. Good win against a good team but now it’s time to go get after Creighton who seems to be Miles’ worst nightmare.

    Go Big Red!

  12.

Mike gessell is a traitor and a tyrant.

Tell me about it....he's from my home town and his is family are all Husker fans too.

Ran into him and his dad walking over the bridge on the north side of the stadium our first year in the B1G when we played Iowa in Football. His dad was wearing Husker stuff but Mike wasn't wearing any memorabilia for either team.

Seems to have worked out pretty well for him. He made a good decision for his future and has had a very successful 4 years at Iowa. I would've loved to get him to Nebraska but can't fault him for making the decision he did.

  13. This is one of those losses that is tough to swallow. They built up a solid lead and completely blew it down the stretch. I love Tim Miles but his in-game adjustments need to be way better. At some point we gotta figure out that we gotta put a body on somebody and rebound. Hopefully this team can find a way to put this behind them and get focused on Indiana. The games aren't gonna get easier from here. If they can't find a way to close out games, it's gonna be a lonnnnnng conference season

  14.

WOW, PV was actually up 34-33 at one point! Tim Miles, at this point, is a total joke of a coach!

This is a total joke of a post. Nice job cherry picking one moment of the game. Besides about 6 minutes of terrible basketball - miles looked like a typical coach of a team that totally outclassed the competition. If you want to make a comment about the final score and then let that reflect on our coach then it would hold more weight.

You are free to think what you want. My post is more than one game.

It was 31-28 at half time, how many minutes are in each half?

You also, obviously. Your post was very much pointed at one point of the game. Now your mind might have been thinking about the entire season - but reading it with out being able to have any additional clues makes that difficult.

How many minutes into the game was it when they went on the 16-0 run? If you take that number and subtract it from "how many minutes are in each half" you will get the number of minutes that we looked terrible.

"Webster keyed the run after Prairie View A&M erased an 18-point first-half deficit, taking a 34-33 lead after Tevin Bellinger’s jumper with 17:33 remaining.

Benny Parker’s 3-pointer from the corner with 16:57 left started the run, as Nebraska turned up the defensive pressure, recording five steals and holding the Panthers without a field goal for a stretch of 5:43."

Sounds like you are now cherry picking to find something in your favor. In that game, we saw much of the same undisciplined play we have seen in many games this year. That is coaching! and to lose an 18 point lead against PV is a joke!

Also the game was over half over before NU started its run.

Let me say this again.. PV was 0-10 and one of the worst in the country. Making excuses for poor play even though they finally got things going doesn't help solve anything.

Don't get the cherry picking comment - care to explain.

PV is a terrible team and I didn't deny that or claim that this was a "special" win.

No where in this entire thread did I make a single excuse for poor play - if so please show me....

I guess your math skills were not strong enough to solve the period of time that they played "terrible" so I will help.

Using the play by play box score (because we could go on for hours discussing the quality of play - whether a basket is made or not)

6:26 to go in first half we are up 26-11 so this is were I mentioned the play got terrible.

17:32 to go in the second half is were we started to have a heart beat (20:00 - 17:32 = 2:28)

6:26 + 2:28 = 8:54 (sorry in my original post I stated they played "terrible" for 6 minutes --- it should have stated 8:54 minutes)

So for 31:06 minutes we outscored them 74-27, whether we played good or average during this time - is debatable, however hard to say it was terrible.

for 8:54 minutes we got outscored 7-23, clearly terrible against a team that has and will continue to struggle.

Come back with whatever you want because i'm sure it will be good, however i'm done talking about this game. This debate has gone on about 6 post too many.....

Your obsession with time is cherry picking, so much so you ignore what happened during the whole game.

Getting outscored in 9 minutes by PV is terrible! Letting PV go on a 16-0 run no matter what is terrible! Getting our butts handed to us by full court pressure is terrible.

NU looked like a Junior High team playing against the zone and trying to break the press. Multiple turnovers, a 10 second violation (yes seriously, a 10 second violation against a man to man full court press.

I'm normally just a casual looker of posts on here, but your comments made me have to sign in and comment. I'm not sure why you need to be so negative about this game. Yes. I realize that PV is bad and this is a game we should win handily, which in the end we actually did if you would stop worrying about the smaller portion of the game where we struggled. All teams go through stretches where they don't look good. It's college basketball and these are college kids out there playing. We have a very, very young team and a few of them are getting adjusted to the level of play at the college level. If some of these players were at another school, they wouldn't be seeing the court this early in the year. I think it's good for them and will bode well in the future but you gotta take the growing pains that come with. Coming here and saying Tim Miles is a joke of a coach hits me very badly. That's a bad overreaction and quite frankly I don't think it is necessary to post in here.

  15. The same exact problems I pointed out earlier are giving us headaches again this game. Why not get to the hoop and stop settling for bad shots? Why wait until there's barely any time on the shot clock to finally start running an offense? There's so many things that leave me dumbfounded after watching games. It looks like everyone on this team has gotten hesitant with the ball as well. It's like they have no idea what to do with it when it's in their hands. There's so many bad passes, passing up open shots, and confusion with the ball.

  16. I'd like to see some of our guys work to get the ball to the hoop today, especially Terran. So many times, I feel like this team settles for jump shots when they could drive and get an easy bucket or else open up the passing lanes for shooters on the perimeter. One thing that also drives me crazy that I would like to see stop is relaxing at the top of the key until late in the shot clock. It almost always seems like our offensive set starts with around 15 seconds on the shot clock. With that being said, this is a must-win to get back on track along with the next couple games. Time to get some momentum going moving into the latter part of the schedule.

  17.

Why was it too much? The guy loved his coach and Bo will be the only coach that he will have to play for. As much as we hate Bo, I don't think some of you guys realize how much he meant to these kids. They came in as Freshman not really knowing about much, and not only was he their football coach, but also someone who they looked up to. He was a second father for some of these kids.

because hes had 4 god damn weeks to get this sh#t out of his system and go out as a proud HUSKER. Not a damn Boliever. Perfectly depicts all the problems with the program inside and out over the past 7 years. Us vs world. At least under Riley us fans will be back on the US side.

I agree that I'm very glad that the Us vs. the world is gonna be over, but you gotta put yourselves in some of these guys' shoes. I might not agree with it and you might not agree with it, but all those guys have been through a tough time these last few weeks and wanted to play hard for the guy that led them. And don't say he didn't go out as a proud Husker because he's always played his hardest for Nebraska. Today, just watch some of the blocking he was doing and the touchdown catch was spectacular.
