My thought is to take helmets off the players and they would certainly not lead with the head on tackles. Devise some padded foam hood covered with leather to protect the head when hitting the ground.

I'll bet the Stoops family dinner at mom and dads house will be a bit strained when little Jimmy asks Uncle Bob why aTm scored so many points.

E-ZE... yes the back judge did run in ruling him down and when he did run in, the whistles were already blowing! When i watched it live, i was furious and yelling at the TV because the play was blown dead right after Ameer went down and before everybody dog-piled on top for the ball. That was only one of many bad calls in that game!

The officials blew the play dead after they saw no more forward progress being made. Then they separated the players to see who recovered the fumble.

Had they not blown the ball dead more players from both sides would have jumped on the pile and made their job more difficult.

It seems the only people that "heard the whistle" were those sitting in their living rooms drinking beer and eating chips.

And wearing a corn cob on their heads, of course.

You are correct, he did blow it dead. I have it DVR'd and you can clearly see it on the one of two camera angles they allowed us to see.

Are you saying you actually heard the whistle? I've watched the play several times and didn't hear a whistle, nor did I see any players react as though they heard the play whistled dead.

First rule in a fumble pile is you hold onto the ball until the ref physically reaches you and asks for the ball.

What exactly do you want him to say? Either way you'd still be complaining and be calling for Bo's head. I guess I thought it did come down to exacution that's what my Football and Basketball coaches always told us.

My high school coach would say "We didn't execute well at all" after a loss. Then he would add that the coaching staff failed to coach us properly and THAT is why we didn't execute well. The players can only perform as well as the scheme the coaches give them to execute.

If a coach blames the players for poor execution then he is failing his duty as a coach.

I thought the Nebraska coaches called a good game against Georgia. The run calls and the blocking by the O-Line was good, and the RBs did well. At the half I was worried that Nebraska might just break the game open in the 3rd quarter and run away with it.

Once again, completely out coached coming out of halftime seemed to be the norm for our coaching staff.

You guys put a scare into me. No one knew who was going to win going into the 4th quarter. This is the most prolific scoring offense UGA has ever had in our history and it took it to win this game. I'm not sure you guys should have went away from a run offense. Our strength is pass defense. Our rush is pretty good. However, our run offense is so-so. It was a damn great effort by both teams. A great game to watch. Good luck next season. Go Big Red!

Thanks for posting, great game to UGA. Couple quick questions that I am looking for an honest answer on.

1) How does our O stack up agains SEC offenses?

2) Are our offenses athletes comparable to SEC ones?

3) What were you most impressed by in our team?

What a fun game to watch. At the half I was really worried Nebraska would come out and run down our throats and wear down the defensive line.

The Georgia defense was getting tired late in the 3rd quarter, but the offense stepped up and gave them some rest. They were in much better shape in the 4th quarter.

As for your questions?

1) The Husker offense is physical and aggressive, as are the better SEC teams. Your receivers weren't as fast as ours, but most SEC teams aren't either.

2) The Nebraska offensive line seemed to be lighter than an SEC line, but they were strong enough to handle some big guys. Your RBs were strong enough to break tackles and run past some guys, but your WRs didn't have the speed to run by a good set of DBs.

Let me say something about "SEC speed." Every team in every conference has some players with great speed. But what we refer to as "SEC speed" is having OLinemen that can pull across the line, get to the outside, and block an LB to let the RBs turn the corner. You had a couple of guys that could do that. But most important is to have DLinemen that are quick enough to get down the line and prevent that OL guy from cutting him off, or being able to penetrate the line of scrimmage and chase down the RB or QB behind the line. I didn't see that on your defensive line.

John Jenkins was our best DL for that. He was very quick for his first 3 or 4 steps. Too bad you didn't get to see him.

3) Nebraska gave Georgia all they could handle on both the offensive and defensive lines, and your pass defense was almost good enough to shut us down. Your RBs were tough and punished our defense on every tackle. Martinez is a good QB, especially as a dual threat.

Nebraska came to play, and they played tough the entire game.

If Nebraska starts the 2nd half strong they might just win this game. They have looked good on offense and defense so far. Murray better stop throwing those wild passes for INTs. This reminds me of the 1st half of the Florida game.

Time for the 2nd half.

I agree with lo country, from the Georgia side. Richt has a tendency to ease up after getting a good lead and letting the other team get back in the game. See last years loss to Michigan State as an example.

Georgia needs to be innovative in mixing the running game with the pass and wearing out the Nebraska defense. Richt is also locked into his pro-style play action offense and if he doesn't mix in enough 5-WR sets and spread options then the defenses tend to find the gaps and shut down the run. Once any team becomes one dimensional then they will lose unless they are exceptional, and neither team in this game fits that description.

Georgia also has to use the TE more in the passing game. We have 3 good ones and that can really free up the WRs.

Well, he leads the nation if that helps.

Well, that might help Georgia, but maybe not Nebraska.

I think Martinez and Murray are close to equal in talent, with Martinez being a much better runner. Murray has, in the past, had a tendency to fumble or throw an INT in crucial situations. But this season he is much improved.

One key will be turnovers at the QB position. I don't know how many fumbles and INTs Martinez had this season, but Nebraska needs to hang on to the ball and try to wear down the Georgia defensive line.

Well, I've tried that several times the last few weeks, but it hasn't worked for me.

Can't figure out how to edit. I meant Huskers.

If Nebraska can establish a good run game and Martinez gets loose for some yardage, then I see the Buskers scoring significant points. But they will also need a passing game to support a run game.

Same for Georgia. If Gurley and Marshall rack up some yardage then the Georgia passing game will score fast and often.

Nebraska has a good pass defense so Georgia will have to attack it carefully and avoid interceptions. The run defense is not so good.

Georgia gives up rushing yardage but can stop the run in the Red Zone, and the Georgia pass defense will give Martinez problems. They can play man coverage well, which frees up the LBs for pass runs and run stopping.

Injuries and several other things held Peat back from being the player most expected him to be. I'll be curious where he ends up.

Just curious, but was this a mutual release or did Pellini cut him and pull his scholarship. I'm asking because if it was based on injuries he could stay in school on a medical scholarship and that won't count against the numbers.

I can't remember a time where I have felt the hangover from a loss as long as this one after losing the B1G championship. I'm finding it hard to shake this funk I'm in and just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing. That loss stung bad...

 

Am I a bad fan if I say I'm just not that excited about the bowl game?

In 2008 Georgia started out 4-0, with a solid win over a good Arizona State team and a decent South Carolina team. Then Alabama came to Athens and ran over us 41-30 (but not hearly that close). That was a total shock to just about every Dawg fan and we went on to lose to Florida and Georgia Tech. So, yes, a tough loss can take the starch out of you for a while.

The loss of Jenkins will make a big difference. Georgia will still run a 3-4 occasionally, but will also shift to a 4-3 and add a couple of defensive tackles to the mix. There will be more inside run blitzes to slow down any straight ahead running game, but that will open up the corners if your offense can adapy and audible a quick pitch.

Georgia actually ran a 4-3 about 30% of the time last season, so that will be an option.

I see you have 30 committed recruits for 2013, per Rivals. And A&M fitting into your sleazy little cabal nicely with 33 of their own. Don't forget your "SEC" chant when your weasel comrades win by way of your patented grease bag maneuverings. Do you all really think you're just that much better? Or do you all acknowledge the blatant disregard for operating with integrity, and just feel no shame over it?

 

Seriously never thought I wouldn't LOVE college football season. At this point, I almost think we're idiots if we're still following the rules.

Is this the best you can do? Obviously you never check facts before spewing garbage out of your mouth. Georgia is short players in 2012 due to transfer, dismissal, and flunking out. We will sign 10 players in December/January that will count on the 2012 scholarship limits. Then in February we will sign between 20-24 players to 2013 scholarships. All legal and within the rules.

Damned if y'all couldn't win this game. Nebraska has always been tough...slow, but tough (had to) Everybody down here has always looked at Nebraska a team we wish played more SEC teams, cause y'all might bring a little more to the fight than all of those old guard Big Rusty (origginal Big10) teams brought.

 

We are the fastest team in the B1G, no doubt about it, but we might be the smallest as well because we are based on speed cause of our years in the Big XII. We are good at the skill positions and secondary...............terrible on the lines.

I tried to explain what we call "SEC speed" to an Oregon guy just before they played Auburn in the NC game. He kept claiming their RBs and QB were faster than Auburns.

I said, "Yeah, but when your RBs get run down behind the line before they can turn the corner you'll understand."

Auburn had 14 tackles behind the line in that game. Most of them by their D=Limemen.

What was the biggest strength and weakness as you see it for UGA this year?

Strengths. Great passing game with accurate QB and receivers that can catch the ball, make the 1st tackler miss and make plays in the open field. Strong young offensive line but not much depth. Great runnibg backs. Solid LBs, DBs that'aren't afraid to play man all game.

Weaknesses. O-line has no depth. D-Line not as good as expected and no depth.

Mobile QB with a good arm can stretch the defense and tire them. Missouri tried this but their QB was trash.

If your O and D lines have depth then rotate them all game and run sweeps and tosses to run our D-Line down, and pass rush and blitz over our rookie RT. He blocks for the run OK but is still weak on the pass rush. His footwork is a bit slow.

You guys need to come over to our board and talk with us.

Guys, this is how Georgia felt after our humiliation at South Carolina not so long ago. You will bounce back.

unfortunately we suffered that same humiliation to South Carolina not so long ago as well. We bounced alright - and came down HARD.

The answer to that is to get back up, buckle the chin strap tighter, and come back meaner and tougher. I have no doubt Nebraska will come to the game ready to redeem themselves.

If any NU fan doesn't think that, then they're only a fair weather fan.

I'm gonna look at it this way.... this is probably the toughest opponent we could get bar Alabama. It's probably the second or third best team in the nation.... the only tougher assignment might be Alabama and Oregon (I don't think Notre Dame is very good).

 

So we might as well try to play the best game we possibly can and see how far off it we really are.... that's about all I got.

I recall some Michigan State fans last January worried about the bowl game. They beat us. Just pull for your team and hope for the best. But tell your OL to bring an extra lunch. Our Ddefense is gonna eat theirs. Jarvis Jones is on the prowl!!

Georgia fan here. We'll talk some football with you and maybe make some new friends. The Georgia board we are on is vicious at times. There are some rabid Richt-haters there but most realize what a great man and a fine coach we have.
