  1. I got a chance to watch some film on Swift and I do belive he will be able to play soon. He's quick and fast and plays ever down. Jordan Reever, the Juco transfer will be the only one to compete with Dailey next year. The other two simple aren't big enough or strong enough. The game will move to fast for them. I do beleive Dailey has the job hands down and will suceed better than expected.
  2. Even though Callahan had only three weeks, is that still an excuse? I believe they did the best they could do. They took a chance and went after some highly rated players and lost. Now its time to play ball.
  3. Hey Rocky Mtn Sooner if you don't friggin' like it, get the hell off. The administrator has put hundreds of hours into this board. It just started. There's no need to try and embarrass people. That kind of sh#t comment belongs in the feedback section anyway. Why would you put that in the football section, you piece of crap. This site is one of the most well designed, well equipped and the best part is its free. The administrator, who is not me (cause I know your thinking that), is an NU graduate, trying to put the best board together possible for NU fans. Get off the board if you don't like it. I really appreciate you being on here because I think its really interesting to get your side, but ever try to embarrass someones hard work.
  4. Thank you Jammal for being a Husker Thank you Jammal for choosing Nebraska Thank you for not quitting Thank you for closing your ears to the non-believers Thank you for playing ever game like it was your last Thank you for the toughness you showed Thank you for heart and love you wore on your sleeve Thank you Jammal for showing us what courage is Thank you Jammal for choosing Nebraska Thank you Jammal for being a Husker Hopefully one day you'll be able to look back at your career and smile and be proud to say you played Quarterback for the University of Nebraska. As Warren Zevon sings, please, please "Keep us in your heart for while."
  5. I'm sorry for posting so many times, but I'm trying to piece together info. Danny also says he believes several other of his teammates may commit also, but hasn't talk to them. Regardless the Huskers are off the shnive.
  6. It's official: "When we asked Danny Muy if he was close to making a decision, he said, 'Yes sir, I did commit tonight to coach (Bill) Callahan (Nebraska head coach).'" Taken from husker illustrated
  7. Yeah I saw the news tonight also. I thought I was hearing things. But I looked on a couple sites and nothing anywhere. Even on the 10/11 website. Does anybody have a link or a second conformation?????? If we can get one we may be able to get more. Keep the recruiting info coming. Things should blow up here soon, especially with all the scholorships NU has open.
  8. Good point, in fact, there are probably many that are better. Word is the DC from University of Wisconsin is in town now. Confirmed by his wife. They are old buddies from his time in Wisconsin. What's his name>??? But he has recruited awfully well. A Jim Thorpe award and many big ten LB's that lead the conference. WHen he was at Illinois he got Jeff George.
  9. Are you sure Nzone: "We are also reportedly in it with Brian Brohm. " Isn't that kid top 5 pro QB??
  10. I think after all thigs settle down he'll stay. But its been tough on a lot of him and his teammates. Third system in three years. But if he transfer this woiuldn't change.
  11. Fabian Washington says he's probably going to transfer. This could be out of frusttration. http://www.journalstar.com/corn.php?story_id=114035
  12. Yeah this is the guy I totally gooffed on. I had looked at his choices and no where did it say Nebraska. Now Callahan is going out there and probably hanging the immidiate playing time carrot over his head. This may be one of those recruits, like I said, will come out of nowhere and choice NU. Or I could be completly wrong. But the info Cally is giving him isn't wrong, we need LB's
  13. This is tough to answer now. We'll have to see who Cally brings in. Pelini brought a lot of great characteristics to the team. Or back, depending on how you look at it. Let's remember NU got crushed in their three loses. But that's probably not a fair statement to make. Instead of looking at what we will be missing think about what he brought to NU. He may have saved us from truely going under. Without his defense gamplan, NU probably has two or three more loses. I mean that was the gameplan this year. Defense get turnovers and give our offense 20 yard drives for scores. Or pick up the mess the offense left, ex. fumbling in our own territory. He brought and introduced many new techniques, gameplans and stunts. Thing that next years team won't have to learn. There's a good chance that whomever comes in will do similiar things. What are you going to do?? Let's see who he brings in. When he does we'll here all the pretty stories and how everyone this "new guy" has known in the past and how many great things he's done and we'll all be happy.
  14. The all area LB from KC I think is as soilid a commit as we got. He's excited to be a Husker. He was also, I think the only Husker recruit at that Army all star game
  15. The #3 LB, Brian Toal from New Jersey prospect is going to recieve an in house visit from Callahan on Wednesday. But that's after Coker, Beemer, Willingham and a couple others have gotten to him first. He says immidiate playing time is key to him. With Super D and Hollowell leaving, the door maybe open, not much, but Callahan is making the effort.
  16. Apparently Coach C. has been in touch with several big time recruits all ready, just this weekend. Downing is supposed to go down to Florida this week. Lemmings from rivals said over half the top 500 are still available. OWH: "National recruiting analyst Tom Lemming said Callahan must have been hitting the phones heavily on Saturday and Sunday, particularly in Illinois areas that Callahan knows best." "I'm shocked at how many kids he's called," Lemming said. "I've been calling kids for my magazine just to keep track of visits, and several said he's contacted them already. So he's hit the ground running, but I guess he has to catch up." This is going to be very interesting if any of these recruits by any of this from Nebraska. My guess is a few players are going to commit. Guys that weren't even on NU's list not more than a week ago. Recruiting's a funny game
  17. Also as far as recruiting, instead of getting those hit and miss recruits. Well start getting those sure fire ones. The ones LSU, Oklahoma and USC are getting because there playbook are quite similiar to the pros. That type of recruiting used to work, just can't do it today. Also Downings gone also. He is on staff until Feb. 4, signing day. Then they will make a decision after that. I think I know what's happening to him.
  18. Well for one thing I don't believe the in state recruiting is going down hill. The high schoolers today are too young to fully understand all that tradition, but only through stories. They haven't lived it all. They were only 8 or 9 years old when Osborne left and there have been a number of changes since then. It hurts all of us more because were older. We lived the Osborne era. Or at least the second half. It does suck, we aren't that school that has its ex-players come back or all those connections sticking together. It is kind of odd to retain Gill and offer him the recievers position and let Brown go. You know what maybe not. Recievers are one of the easier positions to coach. Ah hell I don't know sometimes. For all that talk Pelini gave us about "its a buisness" and "sometimes things go certain ways" he sure is being a bitch. But that's the way he is. Think about this though. Maybe Callahan brings in a bunch of pro coaches. Or ones that have the experience like himself. Say they do well. Nebraska once again could be on the cutting edge of a trend. Just like all those fancy lifting machines that no one had, now everyone has them, the same with the the defensive changes, DB to cornerback thing, keeping the option. Who knows maybe in the future everyone is going to go looking for these types of coaches. And then we can say again Nebraska changed the face of college football. Everyone usually looks to the pros for the latest technique, offenses etc. Now because of Nebraska they will be looking for the coaches
  19. Oh without a doubt he's the front runner. That is unless we get a juco which is very possible. But Dailey will have all summer and spring to work on this thing. And we'll have that much more time over everyone else. What about Glissman?? Too raw? not enough talent? too slow? Daily is a video guy he'll be watching Gannon everyday in the off season. I think he fits quite well GO JOE GO
  20. I think we can all agree we need QB's, but we do have Dailey. I think Dailey could get the job done. He seems to be a student of the game. He reminds me a little of Gannon. Quick, not that tall(or is he) but short quick throws. Dailey is obviously going to be a better fit than Lord ever would have been. (I know I probably didn't need to put that in there) What about Glissman? He's got a decent arm. But I think what we need is that mind. That's going to have to be the strongest part.
  21. It will be a quarterback. Hopefully that kid from California. Not the one who visited all ready, oh maybe him I don't know, but rather the kid from Playa Del Ray or something like that. Nebraska was recruiting him way back and he really got away from NU because he didn't want to run the option. Of course things have changed
  22. It most certainly will. Coaches are going to be fairly excited too. To be honest though, many of the older coaches are not going to go over to it for numerous reasons. SOme of the younger ones yes, but one of the downfalls of course is that it is difficult to learn this stuff. All the coaches have grown up on I backfield and Iso's and option. Players can't do if the coach doesn't teach. Believe me the coaches will go out of their way to help any coach out. They will hold numerous coaches clinics all spring to teach this. On the high school staff I work on, Barney Cotton gave my head coach his buisness card and said anytime you need something don't be afraid to give me a call. This is not everyone, but the coaches are helpful. There not stupid. They know they need to keep the in state kids. The University plays a crucial role in the development of Nebraska's athletes.
  23. …And so it begins. The 40 plus day wait, that seemed like an eternity, the wait that brought Husker Nation to a mob-like frenzy, the wait that some have categorized as a “botch job,” the wait that ultimately gave us Bill Callahan. Some fans and other “outsiders” are disgusted, irate, and befuddled at this choice. They wanted the big splash. They wanted a headliner. Now we have a guy who hasn’t viewed a recruiting list in years. Now NU is in for it, they say. Yet others, like myself, are in high praise, intrigued and rabidly excited of this hiring and its great potential it brings. VW from DC put it to me like this: When a horse wins, wins and wins and then falls mightily, the next race the odds are large, 20 to 1, 30 to 1 type sh#t and that’s when you throw the bank on him. That’s what we have with Coach Callahan. If only Pederson kept us updated. Even a little bit, it never would have gotten even half this bad. But nevertheless, he did it the right way. He didn’t interview until after the bowl game in order to keep the players from choosing sides between the internal candidates. Sure he chose other candidates before Callahan, but Callahan didn’t become available until Monday. And as soon as he was Pederson called him. He was hired on Friday. That’s moving quickly if you ask me. (Look at it this way, how relieved are we that Nutt didn’t get on that plane???) The other candidates had jobs already, Pederson’s search revolved around getting that NFL coach. These types of rejections were bound to happen. Although at the time it’s really difficult to understand, but what you have to realize is Pederson is one of us. He’s from North Platte, got his degree at UNL, it’s in his blood. Yes, things were not done in the traditional sense, but then again what is today. As is with the West Coast offense. This is not traditional NU, but who’s to say you don’t throw in an option or two every now and then. (To me as a coach and fan, the triple option is still the greatest play ever invented. You just can’t live on it today because of the change in aggressive style defenses, and the speed in the college game which is beginning to parallel the NFL). Callahan, who will be calling most of the plays, bye Barney (unless you want to coach O-line), says this offense is very versatile. For those of us who abide by the whole climate thing, look at Green Bay, Univ. of Wisconsin and Univ. of Iowa, who play in virtually the same weather as NU. They all throw the ball a great deal. What is important are the players you can recruit to work the system. Callahan is a guru at O-line. Story from LJS: “And in the front row that day sat the late Joe Moore, who at the time was the offensive line coach at Notre Dame. Moore was considered one of the nation's best assistant coaches at his position.” "Somebody asked Joe what he was doing there, and he turned around and said, `I'm listening to the best offensive line coach (Bill Callahan) in the country,' " Venerable said. "When someone like Joe Moore says that, people tend to take notice." At the press conference, already you can tell he’s a better communicator than Solich. He said all the right things. The answers weren’t prerecorded so to speak. Most of all he said was what we all wanted him to. As he squinted into the camera, in a John Wayne like attitude and said “our number 1 goal is to win a national championship and I have the plan to make it happen.” Well he better, or him and the guy who hired him will both be out of a job next time. An optimistic, intrigued and faithful Husker. Go get’em Coach Cal, GO BIG RED
  24. Welcome Husker 4 life, I love the option more than any other play. The greatest invention ever, but you can't live on it anymore. Players are too fast and college defenses are more like the NFL everyday. I'm excited for this offense because, as a coach myself, it will be interesting to learn something new. Callahan is maticulous in his studies. He doesn't and won't need to take classes on how to lead a team. I say bring it on
