Kansas just offered
Believe that was Thomas Allen not Mark Smith

It's all situational. If you have a QB who excels at throwing go routes and have a receiver who is solid at winning jump balls then maybe a decent idea on third and long. However I would rather have a QB who doesn't force a bad throw and gives a good playmaker a chance to make a play. You don't want to have check down Sam Keller out there but an appropriate and properly executed check down is a very good option.
It's really not though. Low risk, high reward is always better than low risk, low reward.
Better than over throwing a go route to a covered WR on 3rd and 6thThe check-down on 3rd & long will be a fan favorite in no time.

Think Copeland plays more like a stretch 4. Don't think he will be a 5.We are gonna need to get a grad transfer pf/C and a shooter that can stretch out the defense. Add in a backup point guard to that list unless Gill is the backup pg.
I feel like we would have been a deep team last year, with only 9-10 guys playing most likely, so here is the depth chart so far in my mind. That may be a factor why so many players like Morrow left, we have a crowded room.
Pg Watson/Gill/transfer
Sg Gill/Taylor/Akenton
SF Palmer/McVeigh
Pf Jackobsen/Roby
C Jordy/Copeland
Gill is better than Taylor in my mind.
Jordy will start at the 5, but Copeland may overtake him, also we do not know if Copeland will be eligible first semester.
At the least, Tim needs a back up point guard and another big in case Jordy/Copeland get injured.
McVeigh/Palmer is a toss up at this point, giving Palmer the edge because I feel like Jack plays better off the bench.
Nana may surprise people and play well this year, he is a 2/3 from what I have seen from him.
Jordy will play around 20 mins a game, depending on copelands status, so this is why we need a Juco big or a grad transfer to fill this role in case of injury. We might be able to survive with Jacobsen at the back up 5 for non conference play or go smaller and get up and down the floor(doubtful).
Probable opening day lineup:
Watson
Turner
Roby
Copeland
Jordy
Gill, McVeigh, Jacobsen, Palmer off the bench.
Think Turner will probably get replaced in that lineup by either Palmer or Gill by conference play.

Also think this will be a fairly small upcoming class for the DL. Think we're pretty happy with our numbers there.
-
I think he will help with some special teams but will have a significant role within the recruiting department. He is a good recruiter and will be valuable in helping with that as well.

More like "Kalu moving to safety for one practice so everyone relax before we start burning couches"

Tommy isn't going to be a TE in the NFL. He has a shot to be a WR, RB or maybe a safety. His playing style and body type are not really suited for a TE.
-
He plays a lot faster and more athleticism in his highlights than a 4.91. I'm fine with him as a WR and then if he bulks up then he can switch to TE. Plus he seems pretty excited about the WR offer.
-
Agreed. I think he played with too high of pad level at times and lost leverage as a result. Hopefully the increased weight and some technique adjustments will help.I'm not sold on Mick at NT....he struggled at the POA this year.
-
In an interview with Carriker, Mick said he is up to 310 now. Also mentioned how they've talked about using an over front in some cases, which will present more like a typical 4-3.

Burkamper, McSteen, Fisher are all coming off injury, no need to push the envelope. And it's a 4 game series. Like as was already stated, he is just the first guy that'll be out there in a full bullpen rotation day. Have some faith.couldn't believe when read the pitching rotation for this weekend, 1. Waldron 2. Tillotson-Colorado Player of the year last year 3. BEN FLIPPING MILLER!!!!!!! 4. Jake Meyers.
1-2 and 4 are understandable but you're telling me BEN MILLER is one of the four best we have got!!!!
youre telling me any of Burkamper, Mcsteen, Engelken, or Eddins. NONE of them are better or have improved enough to pass up BEN MILLER!!!
maybe I'm blowing this way out of proportion, but my lord i feel like we have to have better than this.
-
I'll trust Riley/Diaco on this one. If Elliott can help coach up and develop the talent we're getting and can provide some help with big picture coaching and ease the 3-4 transition, then count me in.
-
1. Roberts - think he will really be the difference maker at LB we've been missing since Lavonte
2. Gebbia - might take a year or two but I think he will be the one to take over after tanner lee
3. Daniels - position of need and looks like he could be playing from day 1
4. KJJ - think he will develop well, already has great hands and runs great routes, will be a monster once he is in the S/C program for awhile, also a great leader it seems like
5. Deontre Thomas - think he looks like a great 3-4 DE, might take a year or two to develop though
6. Lindsey - will be in the rotation from day 1 and could have a brandin cooks type role like Riley had at OSU
Sleeper - Allen - dude is 6-8' and athletic, big red zone threat, big enough to be that TE over the middle and athletic enough to be split out wide

A Williams is pretty much a safety now, maybe a little nickel. Anderson is exclusively a safety. Also don't forget Lee, Butler and Boaz Joseph at corner. But yeah we have decent depth
Do we have enough CB's to even afford to RS him? I think he pretty much has to play.I didn't realize this but Donte Williams said he's going to be 17 for almost the entire season next year. Doubt it happens but would love him to redshirt to put on good (necessary) weight and age a year
Maybe if injuries pile up. Its also possible we just allow any injuries or lack of depth to dictate our nickle package use. We've got a legitimate 3-deep if we can afford to limit our Nickle packages.
CB: Jones, A Williams, Bootle
CB: Jackson, Dismuke
Nickle: Kalu, Anderson

I agree with the general idea here but I also think he deserves some credit for getting Ben Miles this year.Coach Davis needs to hit a home run next year, I think. Not that he is a bad recruiter, but he's been here long enough to have those long-term recruiting relationships that garner interest from the top-shelf RBs. I'm not seeing it, I could be wrong.
-
Just spit ballin here but does the recent CBs to TCU indicate maybe we landed a couple other targets and no longer have room? (As in blades and Lenoir)
-
I got the impression Daniels was pretty much all wrapped up and ready to commit but then ESPN asked him to announce on signing day so he pushed it back and may or may not have silently committed. Just IMO but I think we're fine here.

Lewis is definitely the top guy but Thompson and Grimes are not far behind. All three have the size and athleticism we need. Just going off of film, I think they're all in the same league talent wise.
Neither of those receivers are on the same level as Lewis... If Lewis is #1, put those two at #3 or 4.While he is definitely still #1 on my WR board, I think 1A of Thompson and 1B of Grimes is pretty solid. Would be very happy getting any one of the three
MATTY, ARE YOU DUMB? This is your shot - SAY HE'S GOING TO USC. If you say it, there are 2 possible outcomes. 1.) It happens, and you have some credibility back. 2.) He commits to Nebraska specifically because you jinxed it. Your reputation remains tarnished but you're happy as hell.
Love you buddy <3

Also possible that Maurice could be drafted. He has some good size and played well. Also a chance with Bando but probably not quite as good of odds
-
Heard Creighton offered him a football scholarship

Joseph Lewis replacement?

I like the idea of Barnett switching over to NT. He is obviously a decent athlete since he was highly rated. As long as offensive line depth can support this then I think it's worth considering.Just for fun, let's hypothetically try to figure out a potential position assignment for our team based on this defense. (People familiar with the 3-4 please comment and help me get this right). I've looked at college and NFL depth charts to try to get this right.
DE - Carlos Davis 6-2, 295, Khalil Davis 6-2, 290, Deontae Thomas 6-2, 260
NT - Deiontae Watts 6-3, 305, Daimion Daniels 6-2, 310, (what about moving Jaylin Barnett here? 6-4, 320) Masry Mapieu will play this spot in 2018.
DE - Daishon Neal 6-7, 270, Mick Stoltenberg 6-5, 290
Jack - Freedom Akinmoladun 6-4, 255, Alex Davis 6-5, 255, Sedrick King 6-4, 250, Ben Stille 6-5, 240, Collin Miller 6-3, 235
Sam - Marcus Newby 6-1, 235, Tyrin Ferguson 6-2, 225, Pernell Jefferson 6-2, 225, Luke Gifford 6-3, 230
Mike - Chris Webber 6-3, 230, Quayshon Alexander 6-3, 235, Greg Simmons 6-2, 240
Will - Dedrick Young 6-1, 220, Mohammed Barry 6-1, 220, Avery Roberts 6-1, 220, Willie Hampton 6-2, 220, Andrew Ward 6-1, 220
CB - Josh Kalu, Lamar Jackson, DiCaprio Bootle
CB - Chris Jones, Eric Lee, Marquel Dismuke, Boaz Joseph
S - Aaron Williams, Avery Anderson, Jojo domann
S - Kieron Williams, Antonio Reed, Tony Butler
I'm curious to hear our thoughts on moving Barnett to NT. He has supposedly gotten huge fat and isn't going to crack the two deep at OG. What if we put him in the middle and just let him eat up run space?
