  1. Early signing would benefit teams in talent rich areas, not NU.

Maybe so. Maybe not. We go find a "diamond in the rough" down in the southeast, scout him, offer him, and he signs, he's ours. As opposed to how it is now, we offer , he committs, plays some more high school ball, then Bama and Florida come calling, offer, he decommitts and is gone for "greener pastures" because he is bullshitted away from his original instinct to honor the first team that wanted to "take a chance" on him. Personally, I feel the current way is benefitting the talent rich areas. It allows for the Nebraskas to do all the analysis on a hidden player only for the premier teams to swoop in late and take'em away. Yes, every now and then we get that honorable young man such as a Cethan Carter and Matti Finnin that tell them coaches/programs to piss of, but they are anomoles, not the norm.

+1. It's hard to watch Bo and company to do all the groundwork on a guy in LA, FL, or OH just to see them offered late in the game by their in-state schools because those programs missed out on their first choice and need to fill out their class.

  2. I really, truely believe this is going to be a breakout year for Nebraska recruiting. This year we'll see the big impact of having Terry Joseph on the staff, Rich Fisher has been killing it, Garrison and Kaz doing work on both lines, and oh yeah, our two coordinators have been widely considered as two of the best recruiters on the staff since they got here. Add that with the 2013 season potentially being very good for the Huskers, and I'm feeling that the 2014 class is going to be very good.

They seem to know the game. Recruiting starts earlier now as the number of early commits grows. Huskers have been showing a great game plan with the smaller but elite Junior Day (plus BRW). These coaches get at recruiting hard, boasting an elite recruiting class that expands coast-to-coast this year (blowing up their budget from last year). 2014 recruiting could be just as great.

  3. Only visit he has planned right now is a trip to Stanford. I could see Mr. Alexander showing interest after he talks to Coach Joseph some more. We have been sending him information for a while. Wouldn't surprise me if Mr. Alexander comes for a visit. He wants to attend a good academic school and we lead the country in academic all-americans. Plus if he talks to Smith he can learn more about Nebraska as well.

You have a good point about UNL scholastics plus the tutoring that is available to players is fantastic. But, Bro, Stanford is rolling in academic prestige.

  4. He released his top 10 today. We didn't make it.

Claims those are his "final 10" not just a top 10

About a full year til NSD 2014. We should still be pressing on this guy.

if there is no interest now why waste all the resources and miss out on other prospects?

Because this guy's a stud, and I am a wishful thinker.

What is his top 10 anyway?

247 Sports has him "warm" for Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Michigan, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Penn Sate, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, and West Virginia.

Rivals and Scout have him "medium" for Alabama, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, Virginia, Virginia Tech.

I'll have a top 5 on schools by spring break this year

Looking forward to seeing this kid with :bigredn: in his top 5.

My guesses are: Nebraska, Michigan, South Carolina, Oklahoma, and Kansas State (if he considers in state)

Sidebar, Michigan and tOSU always seem to be on these big time recruits. We ended with a strong recruiting class but a distant third from these guys. What are missing in the Big Ten?

  7. Man, let's talk about a "Boy Named 'Brown'"! Sheds blocks, is tough on the run, and very disruptive in as a pass rusher. Hope Bo works for this guy. 247 has him 'warm' interest, but Scout and Rivals have him 'low' interest. Lots of time to make up ground though and lay inroads in VA.

  8. 2014 will be another year for the O-line (+CBs). He went to Bama and watched Johnny Manziel stick it to them, then took an UV to A&M. He did get to check out our facilities and meet Bo and staff on J-Day. If we can get him here for an OV on a game day, bet we'll be working against A&M to pull him in.

  9. What the heck. It's great that we keep pulling in a lot of talent at WR, but we have other positions of need also. Looks like our offense is pretty attractive to skill position recruits, so hopefully O-Linemen take notice of that and start jumping at the chance to come here as well.

We got 5 O-line commits already in this class that was set up to target defense. I think they're noticing.

  10. Synopsis of the next two pages of this thread:

    • 39 posts: “Don’t call names. He’s just an 17 year old kid. It makes us look bad.”

YOU NAILED IT. Let's skip all of this and go back to D. Johnson's thread and celebrate.

  11. Thinking out loud here. Isn't this the second time he's decommitted?

    Yup!

This makes no sense, he cancelled a trip there last weekend...something fishy

Any chance we pulled his offer?

    Apparently he actually did go

I guess he did take an OV to ASU on Feb 1. OV this late in the recruiting process seems like a near guaranteed decomitment.
