  8. First of all great post Hack. Interesting opinion and real good references and background for all your points. instead of just posting a link and splitting. Not trying to be some kindof professor here but that is an ideal post and one that should go on the "how to" list. I know there isnt time to break it down like that every time, and Im not trying to slam others for their posts, b/c we appreciate everyone's opinion no matter the size - and diversity is crucial, so keep those conflicting opinions coming. But I felt this was at least worthy of a cartman "kick ass". Anyway, yes that does seem to be a jagged pill to swallow. Might be just the antidote we need in the end, but right now it stings a bit!! Dont have a whole lot more to add right now, just wanted to add a quick nickel bags worth. What do the rest of you think about this "FREAKIN' ANGEL OF DEATH"..? brm
  9. Good to hear back from you Patrick. Yep, I think AR & KC pretty much nailed it. I'll add a couple more thoughts to answer your questions directly. 1) The same fans that wanted Solich gone in Nov are also pleased with Callahan. I was not one of them. But that doesnt mean Im not content for the time being with the hire. Or at least Im looking at it optimistically. I know this horse has been in the dirt for quite a while now, but I agree I still dont think Solich should have been canned. I think Solich was turning things around, but that was moot to Steve. Personally I think SP was glad to see the games like KState, MU & TX, b/c he admitted that he had been planning the move even before the season. Those losses validated his actions, and I truly believe that in Steves heart of hearts he also believes that Solich was making progress. And if I or Steve was forced to make a bet as to who wouldve contended for a natty championship first, Solich if he kept his gig or Callahan, I know at least I would pick Solich. This program just took a 30 min break in middle of the NYC marathon, and we were already behind than the Nigerians before the break. The optimist in me thinks we'll compete for the big 12 champ in 2-3 yrs, but realistically id say its closer to 5-6, hence the 6 yr contract. Think Steve might have a little foresight himself? I should hope so. Now thats not to say I dont think this is the best move for the long term sake of the program, b/c I recognize that sometimes you have to go backwards to make progress. My faith is with the program, not the suits, so until we become the Miami of the midwest, I'll wear my Husker gear proudly. 2) Not too worried about Callahans NFL deficiencies. The League is a different animal with layers of intricacies college will hopefully never know. He seemed to adjust pretty well in the regular season, am I wrong? The superbowl was of course also unlike any he'll face at NU, as I dont know he'll be paired against the guy who wrote his playbook. But I do agree it was a pathetic display of foolishness to not better prepare for a witch like Gruden. 3) I agree. But again as has been mentioned you just dont know what he was put through, with all those egos and 0's in the same room. After all where else do you have a work group that all get payed more than their boss? But yes, there was no excuse for losing grip like he did. Lets hope he's not a slow learner. Well those are my drawn out thoughts. You should consider getting an account PC. It makes it quite a bit easier to post, as it sends you a message when someone has responded to your post. And it keeps all your posts organized for you in 'my assistant' so you can find stuff real easy. And you can vote and start polls, etc. etc. And no you definitely wont be spammed. I think we have sent a total of 1 email to our members in the past 6 months. No big deal tho. take it ez. BRM
  10. I think it DOES matter. It matters for the sake of tradition. It matters because he has a TON of institutional knowledge, and I think SP & BC realize he is their SOLE lineage to Husker heyday. And that is actually more important than it seems. Although Im afraid to say that it may be for the name "Turner Gill" more than anything else, and BC may have felt WR was just a "safe" place to stuff him. B/c seriously, if he truly valued his skills, he would have retained his spot. And dont say well he just doesnt have the background to coach QBs in the WCO, b/c he doesnt have the bg to coach WRs either. I realize its a less complicated position, but still, all signs point to "the token" husker legend in the lineup as BC/SP's main motive.
  11. I know. You just knew it was coming. Im not even sure they pay attention that closely to the details, but know that they are just expected to react to almost anything, so in order to keep their funding they change a few names and release the same protest time after time.
  12. I know it probably doesnt really matter much at this point to HN, but if youre interested the Chiefs just released their Def Coord, Greg Robinson. Could it be that BP caught wind of this or saw it coming based on their recent performances? I wonder if he might be interested in jumping back to the League, or if he's intent on landing a HC spot even if it is only Kstate. I'd think he would be a viable candidate if interested, and if I were him I sure would be. Good opp needless to say under a great coach in D Vermeil. Most have probably detached themselves from BP by now, but thought it was an interesting topic anyway. And no I didnt intend to infer that Robinson is now a potential candidate for the NU DC job, as Id rather we didnt become the "hand-me-down" team for the "misfit coaches" from upstairs, but Im sure his name will surface nonetheless. See how I backed into that Husker topic without even trying? beginning to worry myself. Im starting to think that Husker topics are sort of like clouds, as in you can make out just about anything if you look hard enough.. Man I really need to pass this pipe already..

  21. Good article Eric. Well I think Callahan has the ingredients, and has introduced himself well to HN up to this point, so we cant ask for a whole lot more. And you are correct when you sit back and look at it, it was a fairly QUICK hire. So maybe we arent in such a bad position after all. This quote might be a bit of an exaggeration, but I thought it was pretty clever. We shall see... BRM
  22. Hey guys. Well we realize this board is of smaller stature than some others with a bigger budget, but we are starting to gain momentum thanks to all of you and your quality posts. But the key to a good site is user feedback. We truly want to make this board the property of Husker Nation, and for that to happen it needs to be user supported. We arent asking for monetary donations, only your participation in a respectful manner, and feedback to make it better. So since we've had huge spikes in the activity lately (which we are very glad to see), we felt it would be a good time to get your input. What do you think about the board overall? We want to hear the good, bad and ugly as you see it. Are there TOO many forums? What could be done to improve them? Good posts, not enough content? And any other feedback you have that will make this board better. After all, the better it is, the more members we get, and the more valuable of a resource for Husker insight it becomes. Lets all work together, and we can make this the best free Husker message board online. Thanks. BigRedMachine
  23. Okay, for the Left Coast declined (myself included), here's a good resource that may help: http://www.westcoastoffense.com/ Lets get a disussion going here about the pros and cons you guys see with the evolution of the WCO at NU. Here are some topics to get the brain snynapses warmed up: -Is BC for real about a full integration, or is this just "recruiting gloss"? -Will he maintain focus on the powerhouse game, with flashes of West Coast? -How long will it take to integrate? -What impact will this have on recruiting, in-state and otherwise? -Will it impact local highschools? -Nebraska kids are traditionally known for a smashmouth style, and not usually highly recruited by schools outside of the state, and this has been one of our edges - the walk-ons/Rudy's. Will BC still embrace that? -FL, TX, and Cali get all the cred for being the "speed states". With NU going towards the WCO, is the "Nebraska styled athlete" being phased out of football? Or any other topics on your mind. Bring it. BRM
