  1. Maybe not quite as bad of start as last year, but it's looking familiar.

    Michigan still needs a quarterback.

Can't believe PSU. 74 years since Temple beat them.

I guess Minny gets a moral victory.

Thought Wiscy would do better, but still lose. 40 yds rushing? really?

    Bummed about NUs loss.

  2. Michigan @ Utah (Thu)

    TCU @ Minnesota (Thu)

Michigan St @ Western Michigan (Fri)

    Kent St @ Illinois (Fri)

    Stanford @ Northwestern (Sat)

    Illinois St @ Iowa (Sat)

    Richmond @ Maryland (Sat)

    Norfolk St @ Rutgers (Sat)

    Penn St @ Temple (Sat)

    BYU @ Nebraska (Sat)

    So Illinois @ Indiana (Sat)

    Wisconsin @ Alabama (Sat)

    Purdue @ Marshall (Sun)

Ohio St @ Va Tech (Mon)

My pick in Bold, Red, Italics, and Underlined

    Agree. Except Purdue.

  3.

if we pick up 3 it may as well be 6 to get us to 20. So I think you have OU, KU and Iowa for 16, add UT to that mix if we go to 20.

So you guys really hate Iowa, eh?

Yes, but why do you ask?

I am surprised NU fans developed a hate for Iowa so quickly. I figured Iowa was pretty much a 'don't care' team to NU fans for decades. Even after joining the Big10, I figured they would continue to be a 'don't care' team despite the manufactured rivalry. Kind of like Iowa St. might have been in the Big12/8. I have been a Big 10 fan for decades and don't really hate or like Iowa. I don't mind if they do well in the Big Ten, but they are not a favorite team or anything. I always pictured their fans as being fairly passive.

  4. Chicago would be the central office. Lincoln the west...just thought it would be a funny slap in the face to Texas if they joined.

Please, no 8 team divisions if we go to 16. 4x4 pods. I want to play each other more not less.

  5. It might not be in the best interest of the Big10 et all to know how easy they are to break.

I think if enough members leave a conference they would be easy to dissolve. ESPN needs to cut costs anyway.

  6.

I would like to hear some real chatter from the media regarding a potential OU and KU move to the Big Ten.

I think the GORs are a problem so we have to wait about 10 years. Although if anyone can break a GOR its Texas.

If Texas feels their status is threatened, they will dissolve the Big 12 before anyone can beat them to it by leaving. If OU and KU openly said they were in talks, Texas would fire back with likely the Texas 4 pack to the Pac 12.

Some Longhorn fans think there is smoke with KU and OU and that it might lead Delany to pursue Texas along with poaching Mizzou and adding ND plus another East school. Texas thinks their brass would jump at an invite from the B1G.

I know that many, if not all, would hate to have Texas in the conference but I think it would help elevate the B1G past the SEC. I bet that would make ND rethink their position with the B1G and spurn the ACC and join.

Adding Texas, Notre Dame, Mizzou, OU, KU, and say Virginia would be a game changer towards realignment. Not only would the Big 12 be killed off, but the ACC would likely fold as well due to the SEC pillaging them. The Pac 12 would have to settle for the remnants of the Big 12 and we would be left with 3 super leagues.

I think the only interesting expansion that would happen in the near term (short of the Big 12 adding a couple teams), is if Texas decides to implode their conference.

I really hope the Big 10 doesn't go past 16 teams, but I guess if they added 6 more we would still play each other every 3 years. (home and home every 6). The Big10 would probably be going after 6 of the following teams (no order, although I think the top 6 are first): ND, Texas, Virginia, NC, OU, Kansas, GTech, Forida, Iowa St. Missou, Vandy, Duke, Texas A&M

I think FBS football could get to four 20 team super conferences. There are 64 in the current power 5, 4 independents, and if we consider Boise, Uconn, Cincy, other teams from Florida and Texas that have value in recruiting, plus a few other MWC teams like Air Force, SanDiego St and maybe Colorado St., we can get to 80. The ACC would probably end up being an odd looking conference geographically. It would be interesting to see who the last 6 to 8 teams are that get in and to watch the fight over the Texas teams.

  7. I would like to hear some real chatter from the media regarding a potential OU and KU move to the Big Ten.

I think the GORs are a problem so we have to wait about 10 years. Although if anyone can break a GOR its Texas.

  8. I would prefer a 4+2 with the other Pods (rotates every year) and 1 CG. No sense in adding more possibilities of losing before the playoffs.

Oh...and I like Northwestern, I want them back. They can have a rivalry trophy with with Nebraska. We can call it the 'NU' trophy with the winner getting to use the

    acronym for two years.

  9. Just throwing this out there but what about trying to steal Kentucky?

Pod 1 - NU, Kansas, Oklahoma, Iowa, Missouri

Pod 2 - Minnesota, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Purdue, Illinois

Pod 3 - Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Indiana, Kentucky

Pod 4 - Penn State, Rutgers, Maryland, Pitt, Boston College

I don't think Kentucky or BC would get in in either, although I like the BC idea. They have the AAU criteria to meet UNLESS you are a traditional power like OU or ND. That is why Uconn would be a tough sell. Kansas, MIssou and Pitt are all AAU. BC, OU and Kentucky are not. NU no longer is, but they were when they joined. Ironically they got voted out by just 2 votes and I think Michigan and Wiscy helped vote them out. Arrogant bastards. :-)

I think the only way we ever see the pod format isnif we get to 20 teams. With 16 you can still play 7 division games and 2 rotating crossover games a season. At that point all the rivalries should be sectioned off accordingly.

Man I hope you are wrong. With 16 and nine game schedule Michigan would play NU every other year...they would play every out of pod team every other year.

That sounds a lot more fun to me.

Yeah I would be in complete favor of the pod system to make more exciting matchups. It just poses a problem for championship games.

I didn't realize it caused CG issues. I thought 2 pods basically form a 'division' and that just rotates from year to year. So NU would play their 3 pod teams, 4 teams from the 'divisional' pod and 2 from the 3rd pod in the other division. They would play no one from the 4th pod. You basically play everyone in your 'division' and two cross division games. Winner of each set of combined pods goes the CG. But maybe that violates some rule.

  11.

    West Virginia?

    shudder_homer_small.jpg

They're not bad, but I mainly chose the Mountaineers because of Pitt. The Backyard Brawl is a cool rivalry that I think should be played annually.

no way West Virginia gets in. May as well take Cincy. Your 20 looked good if you get rid of the 'West' in West Virginia.
