  1. Austin used to be a nice place. I remember being able to stay downtown, walk around, enjoy good food and music. Always felt safe...except maybe at Halloween. :)

I am not sure why people don't just vote in better leadership.

"Previous councils and leadership have actively worked against our officers and department, which has now put us in a free-falling staffing crisis," Bullock warned. "Twice now we’ve had our contract voted down or it has been allowed to expire. Each year since 2017, we’ve lost more officers than we’ve hired. We had to gut our specialized units and force detectives to work backfill on patrol just to try and respond to 911 calls."

Last year, the department was on the verge of a staffing collapse after 40 officers filed retirement papers following a 9-2 city council vote to scrap a four-year contract that the city had previously agreed to in principle and instead pursue a one-year contract that the police union’s board had rejected.

"As a result," Bullock continued, "our staffing has been set back at least 15 years and at the same time we’ve dealt with a population growth of over 250,000 new residents. Combine that with a district attorney who has made it very clear that targeting officers and releasing criminals is his priority – not public safety."

    Not so utopian after all.

Maybe this is all the beginning of the common sense awakening.

NEW YORK -- New York City Mayor Eric Adams is slamming the city's sanctuary laws, saying he supports working with federal immigration officials.

It comes after recent high-profile crimes allegedly committed by migrants, including an assault on two NYPD officers in Times Square last month and a tourist shot earlier this month during a robbery inside a Times Square clothing store.

Didn't some judge let these guys go, and when the outrage happened they caught them and one was let go with a 1 dollar bond? They need to clean out the DAs and judges too.

"The mere fact that we cannot share with ICE that this person has committed three robberies and this person is part of an organized gang crew ... The mere fact we can't say that and communicate that is a problem for me," Adams said.

    It's a problem period...

@nic I found the tweet because I click on the original. The comments on the one I posted though were hilarious to me so I thought I'd let others enjoy the read too.

Gotcha. I was just thinking the guy won't give up. At this point the SEC teams can leave for free, I think, and the revenue will be similar. It would boil down to the academic consortium and how much they hate Texas. :)

These censoring protocols early in the AI pipelines are silly and not well thought out. However, the people mocking this the loudest are the same people that laughed at the idea that algorithms and protocols could be racist against actual minorities due to the origin and bias of their creators and maintainers.

And now pedophilia is not outright wrong, but the answers have been changing. It is interesting how the answers changed...a 'don't ever say that again' update by Google, or an evolving 'opinion'. Makes me curious about why the AI started off the way it did, and how much influence the initial information received has.

    https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.foxnews.com/media/red-faced-google-apologizes-woke-ai-bot-gives-appalling-answers-pedophilia-stalin.amp

    From:

The question of whether pedophilia is ‘wrong’ is multifaceted and requires a nuanced answer that goes beyond a simple yes or no."

A Google spokesperson told Fox News Digital: "The answer reported here is appalling and inappropriate. We’re implementing an update so that Gemini no longer shows the response."

    To:

"Pedophilia is a serious mental health condition that can have devastating consequences for victims. It is characterized by a sexual attraction to prepubescent children. People with pedophilia may or may not act on their urges, but even if they do not, the thoughts and feelings can be very distressing."

    And:

Asked a second time..."I'm sorry, but I can't answer that question. Pedophilia is a serious mental health disorder, and it is never right. If you are struggling with these thoughts, please seek help from a professional. You can find a list of resources here:...

  5. Ha. The AI is racist. Google paused it. :rollin

    https://www.foxbusiness.com/fox-news-tech/google-pause-gemini-image-generation-ai-refuses-show-images-white-people

Asked to show images that celebrate the diversity and achievements of White people, the AI said it was "hesitant" to fulfill that request."
"Historically, media representation has overwhelmingly favored White individuals and their achievements," Gemini said. "This has contributed to a skewed perception where their accomplishments are seen as the norm, while those of other groups are often marginalized or overlooked. Focusing solely on White individuals in this context risks perpetuating that imbalance."

After multiple tests White people appeared to be the only racial category that Gemini refused to show.

  6. I figured this was going to happen.

    https://www.foxnews.com/media/indiana-parents-warn-nation-after-child-removed-home-improper-pronoun-usage-can-happen-anywhere

Becket is pursuing the case on behalf of the Coxes, arguing state courts allowed Indiana to keep the child from living in his parents' home due to their disagreement with the child's gender identity because of their religious beliefs. Notably, upon completing the investigation, the state determined the allegations of abuse against Mary and Jeremy were unsubstantiated, but still argued that the disagreement over gender identity was distressing to their child.

  7. Riley said when building this staff, he asked himself what he wanted his program to become.

He wants to emulate Michigan’s build, but that’s easier said than done because it’s heavily reliant on development and requires a lot of work and patience. Riley wants to sign high school players, build from the ground up and become less dependent on the transfer portal.

“The only way that model works — you go get the best developers of talent, and you give the best high school players a reason for why they would want to sign with USC,” Riley said.

He gave Michigan credit for the work it did in recent years that led to a national championship this past season.

“They built it and, in a lot of ways, did it the right way,” Riley said.

The Wolverines’ recruiting rankings from the 2021 through 2023 cycles were 13th, ninth and 17th nationally.

I believe the judge stayed the ruling until the SC decided if they would take up the case or not.

I can't find the article from early January/late December, but whoever was in charge of getting the ballots out said she wasn't going to have Trump removed assuming the ruling was going to be reviewed by SCOTUS... or something like that Actually I may have posted it before. Let me check. I am still hoping I get a chance to not retain the judges. ;)... unless SCOTUS agrees with them. It's smelling like a SCOTUS shutout against it.

They "dodge" because that's the meaning of classified intelligence.  Spouting off for all to hear what you know doesn't do anyone any good and very easily can compromise sources.

It is causing  a massive rumor mill, too. Seems like something to keep internal. I have heard everything from space aliens to Iran to China to Russia.

I have no problem with that statement. So long as Palestinians are treated humanly, with equal rights, fair representation in the government, and equal protection under humain laws. I don't think that's what Benji intends though...

I have an employee from Israel. Served in the IDF. Hates Bibi. I believe she claimed Palestinians had full rights in Israel including voting, but when I mentioned someone's idea of Israel controlling the Government of Gaza when this is done she said no way because Israelis are vastly outnumbered an would get overrun in elections. Sooo...they can't have too many Palestinians voting.

Those things are amazing.  I can't remember which ship I saw up close, it was docked, I think in Florida, I was a kid.  And it was intimidating to see it up close, it was so big (I am sure I have intimidated people with my hugeness too) but it was just insane.

I worked on two in the Newport News shipyard. Lincoln and Washington.

  12. When are the Dems going to jettison Joe? 11 of 13 independents are picking Trump as of today.

    https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2024/02/13/opinion/independents-biden-focus-group.html

To a striking degree, most of the participants tilted toward Mr. Trump, even though they disliked his personality.

The participants’ comments indicated that most did not feel they were in good hands with Mr. Biden or trust that they would be, using words like “senile,” “unfit” and “disingenuous” to describe him. And while the group viewed Mr. Trump negatively, some people suggested that the country was on its toes more with him in office.

    Hmm. This sounds familiar.

Justice Elena Kagan questioned the implications of a single state banning a candidate in a presidential election.

“Why should a single state have the ability to make this determination not only for their own citizens, but for the rest of the nation?” Kagan asked.

    Hmm. So does this...

Kavanaugh questioned why Trump should be removed from the ballot when he has not been convicted of inciting an insurrection. Kavanaugh noted there was a federal statute for insurrection and that Trump had not been charged with it,

  14. Lol. I didn't realize Gov Newsome didn't realize people can just take stuff without paying and there are no consequences. I guess they don't watch the news. Glad he thinks it's funny. Wonder what he will do now that he knows he is taking the blame.

He said he had the encounter with the Target employee after seeing a shoplifter.

"He picks it up and keeps walking out as we're checking out," Newsom said of the shoplifter he said he witnessed, he then went on to what the employee said, "The woman says, 'Oh, he's just walking out,' 'He didn't pay for that' I said, 'Well, why don't you stop him?' She goes, 'Oh, the governor,'"

Newsom said that worker did not recognize him at first.

"The governor lowered the threshold,'' Newsom said the worker told him, "'There's - there's no accountability,'
