There is no excuse for an athlete at Nebraska to not get the required grades to pass classes.

What if some just don't have the natural inborn talent to pass classes?

They have tutors to help them then. It's the other half of the talent plus hard work equation.

(It was a lame joke in reference to another thread.)

  2.

Also, just checked and it looks like you didn't get booted from BRB until around 2009 or 2010. You made it longer than most!

Are you a member of BRB? If not, when did *you* get booted?

I was a member, when BRB first split from Huskerpedia. I got the boot in mid November of 2007. In fact, a lot of us did.

So you didn't post as "Elf" over there?

You don't think "hating Frank & Bo and Loving Callahan" is a bit too strong for pretty much anyone in this spirited conversation?

    No.

    But you're free to disagree.

I cant recall more than one person liking Bill Callahan more than Frank Solich.

Go to bigredboard. Luckily, the Internet figured out a way to quarantine them.

Bigredboard doesn't accept new members and hasn't since they purged anyone who didn't hate Tom Osborne and refused to toe the line. That's been years now. There is very little a guest can view, almost all of their posts are hidden from the public. They have at least 3 layers of hidden forums and that's only counting if you are a member. (lol)

All of your "bigredboard" comparisons are pretty silly, probably time to drop it.

Do you know what quarantine means? You must, cuz you just described it.

If you do indeed know what a quarantine is, why do you insist on people going to bigredboard?

I didn't mean for him to join. I meant that is where he could go to find the people that he thought were so scarce.

You can't even do that, it's all hidden from view unless you are a member.

    sigh.

It was more of a figurative comment to say "Here's where they are."

As to viewing if you're not a member, there are other ways.

So basically, you are only telling people that to be a jerk?

No. Did you follow the conversation at all? Your earlier confusion about what I said led to this whole derailment.

He said he only knew of one person that hated Frank and loved Bill. I pointed him to a whole board full of them.

We've got experienced coaches now. Who cares about this school stuff?

Well gee I wonder who brought these players in

    #blame-bo-derailment

It is the players fault if they don't get good grades...doesn't matter who is coach or who brought them in. The system at Nebraska gives them every opportunity to succeed. If they don't take advantage of that it is on them.

Do we still have the same level of academic support for the players that we had in the Osborne era? If it's anything close to that there is no excuse for not getting good grades.

Pretty much, maybe even better. Dennis LeBlanc is still there running that side of things and has been since 1987. Great guy.

I don't think anyone is saying that we have as much talent as those teams of the 90's but GBRedneck isn't wrong when he says most of out losses this year are directly related to coaching.

Like when the coaches called a run and Tommy threw an interception instead?

That's a perfect example of poor coaching, but that's not what this thread is about.

A player not doing what he is told is a good example of poor coaching. lol.gif

You were on the sideline? Tell us exactly what he was told.

  6.

wow, this discussion went way over my head. Can someone in two sentences or less tell me how not to go to hell but still enjoy life?

The path to Heaven is not in the works. Meaning that we as Christians believe (because Jesus said so) that if we accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior and recognize that He died for our sins, we will be granted the gift of eternal life in Heaven.

I realize I'm responding to a really old post, but where did Jesus say this?

Prominent media guy covering Huskers says it was definitely the athletic department that wanted this story out. Contacted both newspapers so they could do the interview together.

Also said it didn't go over all that well with everyone on the team.

I wonder why it wouldn't have gone over well. Not saying that these evaluations are the end-all-be-all indicator of talent and athleticism, but wouldn't athletes at that caliber want something tangible to look at and see how they compare? It doesn't make sense. Unless there are some on the team still fighting tooth and nail against the coaching staff.

They aren't upset about the testing. They're upset with the AD propaganda behind the article, which basically calls them a bunch of untalented schmucks as an excuse for poor coaching.

  12.

You said I had no chance at being as good of football players as the ones I listed

Yes I did. However, I don't ascribe it to lack of talent, and you keep missing that point. My opinion of your lack of success has more to do with your personality, attitude, a perceived propensity to give up before a real effort is made and also the fact that you would be the type to put up over 10,000 posts sitting in front of the computer in the last three years just to this one forum, which might be siphoning away time spent more profitably elsewhere.

If you have to go to the level that you're insulting not only someone's person but also their post count, perhaps it's time to be the bigger person and just step back. I'm sure there are some character traits or flaw you possess - we all have them.

Huh? You cut off the part of his post where he said he was stepping back, and then tell him he needs to step back? C'mon man. You're better than that.

HAAHAHA! his 5-6 record at YSU will really pull in the offers.

Know how I know you're not an athletic director?

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!

Actually, I'll retract that last statement. You could very well be Sean Eichorst.

and you could very well be harv

If that was meant as an insult, unsult accepted. If it was meant to make sense, try over.

It's only an endorsement if they don't let other groups do the same thing. This opens it up to the Wiccans and Pagans and Satanists and Pastafarians and all of a sudden you have a circus after every game.

That's why the school shut him down. It's just much easier.

Besides, if the guy is such a good Christian, why doesn't he take Jesus's advice?

Do you have any examples of how "all of a sudden you have a circus after every game."? I have not seen this happen and, to my knowledge, all other groups and religions are able to do the same thing if they wish to. When exactly has it turned into a circus?

Also, I must comment on this; "if the guy is such a good Christian, why doesn't he take Jesus's advice?"

Gotta love it when someone basically ignores the overall gist of Jesus' message yet has no hesitancy to pick and choose what specific "advice" others should take and apparently which they should ignore. It sort of came off like you were ridiculously attempting to say that Jesus would not approve of a group prayer after the game........oh wait, that is what you said.

I linked an article above about the Satanic Temple of Seattle planning to join in the 50 yard line prayer.

As to your other comments, are you accusing me of ignoring Jesus's message? What part of Jesus's message did I suggest that people ignore? Are you confusing me with someone else?

I suggest you read the gospels. Jesus was very clear in Matt 6. The coach is obviously ignoring that advice. I'm not judging him (more advice from Jesus). I'm just pointing out what he's doing. Personally, I try to follow all of Jesus's teachings.

Bump for JJ since I'm no longer on his ignore list.

Welcome back to my unignored world GBRedneck. I would say I've missed you but that wouldn't be completely true and I sure don't want to bear any false witness here so.......

I wasn't accusing you of ignoring Jesus' message. However, what you were doing is picking and choosing which part of his message to apply to this circumstance. Yes, Jesus made it clear that people should not showboat in public. He also gave us the Lord's Prayer as a "best" way to pray. Call me crazy but, if I take into account the overall message of Jesus and the gospel, I cannot come to the conclusion that Jesus would disapprove of a group prayer in public any more than he would disapprove of praying something other than the Our Father. I believe there are cases and circumstances where you cannot apply only one specific thing he said while ignoring the overall message. That was my point.

Do you really think Jesus would disapprove of a group prayer at the 50 yard line, in all cases, under every circumstance?

Thanks for the response JJ! I've spent many sleepless nights worrying about this and now I feel like I can get my life back on track again. :worship

I wasn't trying to say that Jesus would disapprove of his prayer group. But He clearly taught a different way to go about it. I do think Jesus would disapprove if the guy put up a big stink about continuing his prayer group after the admin says to stop. I also think He would disapprove of people complaining about the group prayers.

And I don't know what part of Jesus's message includes group prayers at the 50 yard line of a football game. Which part of His message are you talking about?

I revert back to the statement where someone said they are thinking you really have no clue what you are talking about.

Of course, that's got to be it. :thumbs

Chuck Norris described himself as being un-athletic and on top of that, he broke his shoulder during his first two weeks of marital arts training. Yet he retired as undefeated Middleweight Full Contact Karate champion. Do you think that was because of some "revealed talent" or because he practiced for five hours every day?

    So....

You are honestly...with a straight face....telling me that if I had only worked harder when I was younger I could have been as good as Irving Fryer as a WR or Mike Rozier as a RB or Turner Gill as a QB...Or...if I so choose, I could have been the next Dave Rimington. All I was missing is the hard work they obviously put in.

Ben Hogan always said that anyone that didn't have some sort of physical disabilty could learn to shoot scratch golf. I agree with him. But most people aren't willing to put in the amount of effort required, mostly because there are no guarantees.

So in principle, I agree with Bowfin.

Ben Hogan was himself one of the greatest golfers of all time. But I'm not sure he's right about that. Ever hear about The Dan Plan? LINK Dan may be disproving what Ben Hogan said.

That said, I think it's clear that anyone can *improve* considerably with sufficient effort and training.

But Hogan followed his own advice. In the history of the world, no one spent more time on the practice range than Hogan. And he was the greatest golfer ever. If not for a horrific bus accident, he would've set records that no one would've ever touched.

I was a total sports nut the whole time I was growing up. I probably played in more than a thousand football games (city parks and school). We would sometimes play in 3 games every day in the summer in our cities parks plus playing at school in the fall. Great way to grow up.

And for guys who love the sport... the desire never leaves us... ever.

I hear ya. I have recurring dreams about playing football.
