  1. FYI - Mormons are Christians.

Sort of, they are not Born Again Christians, which Ron Brown most definitely is. I don't want to get into a religious discussion, but the beliefs between Mormans (LDS) and Born Again Christians are vastly different.

  2. Now all we need is Simi Kuli, Justin Thompson, & Trevor Robinson. I'm hoping we have enough schollies left for them (BTW, do we???) Then this recruiting class would be perfect. I'd also love to get that DC (Venables) from OU if the rumors are true. His resume looks very impressive.

Sean Callahan on "Big Red Wrap-Up" stated that Nebraska will likely hand out 28 scholarships.....

Could even be a couple more, as we will more than likely have a few greyshirts (probably 2 for sure) as well as a couple guys come in January that will count for last year.

  3. Yep that's right, the word is three weeks now, which for his team is likely the season. This is good in both respects as he probably won't have to take the punishment of getting no blocking, but his shoulder should be fine.

  4. It's official, he's out for the year. Probably good for him though, apparently size-wise he is one of, if not the biggest kid on the team. Hopefully he gets his shoulder rehabed and can come in and compete next year.

  5. I think that we will get someone else eventually who is better than this guy, but you have to wonder how we let this one get away.

    Well, you answered that yourself.

Take Leslie = don't get the "better" person

Don't take Leslie = more than likely get a "better" person

Obviously at this point "better" is relative and we won't really know how these players compare for a few years. But it's obvious that our coaches are after other targets that they view as better than Leslie and apparently also believe we have a good shot at landing.

  6. First of all Gray is not the type of back that Glenn is. Glenn is a pure power back with average speed. Gray is 5'10 215-220 pounds with 4.4 speed. Also is everyone forgetting about Helu? This guy seems to be very good and is only a true freshman as well. We are stacked for running back for the next several years. After we lose Glenn and Lucky we will still have semi proven backs in Castille and Helu and then the potential of Okafor and Gray, then throw on top of that Mendoza and there is no way we will have to scale back our offense in any way. We have Gray as a do everything back, and Castille has proven he can catch out of the backfield as well and Helu is a well rounded back as well.

    My mistake on Gray then.

I thought Helu and Mendoza had been moved to defense?

Um, no. Helu has played against both Nevada and Ball State and Mendoza is redshirting.

  7. Indeed a "student'

Anyway, if you believe Leslie to be so good, why do you think the coaches slow played him, which the OBVIOUSLY did. I'm not saying it was the right decision, because maybe he will turn out to be an all-american, but you can't truly believe the coaches went after him hard, especially in the last few months. Why would they do this? Apparently you think they screwed up and he is a better prospect than they think, because if the coaches thought as highly of him as you seem to, they would have certainly made a more concerted effort to get him to visit.

  8. Bushell and Leslie have nothing to do with each other.

Also, was the sarcasm and mocking really needed?

Yes, I think it was needed. It seems that whenever we don't get a recruit we offerred some people think it's the end of the world.

I have heard from very reliable sources (not Rivals or Scout) that the coaches pretty much decided they have better prospects than Leslie. If you think the coaches "botched" this one, fine that's your opinion. But I think it's pretty obvious they believe we are in on better prospects.

  9. gee, let's take some more RB's so they can get wrapped up in the backfield! about time we got some linemen!

Are we on the same planet? Have you looked at the class? Steinkuhler? Givens? Hoch? Possibly Robinson? Are you prosposing we just take 25 o-linemen?

  10. Man that really sucks!!!! Why did we have to lose this guy?!

Because we are after better prospects!!!11!!!!1

That's not an opinion, it's how it is. Our coaches more or less told him to wait and see if we have a spot for him, we have guys like Bushell who we would rather have!!!!!!

  11. I think we would take both. I would not be a bit surprised to see Baker moved to DT, or at least given a shot at it. He is a physical freak and DT is one of our biggest needs. We have good young players on the OL already on campus (Smith, Jones, Williams, Burkes, M. Jones, Hickman, etc) as well as a couple very good ones this year (Givens, Hoch) it wouldn't completely surprise me if we took both Thompson and Robinson.

  12. Actually they did ask Gray where he thought Demens was going. Gray was on the phone during Big Red Wrap up this week and Gray said he didn't think Demens was going to either Michigan or Michigan State. Perhaps he was just being positive or doesn't really know where he's going, but apparently it wouldn't be a shock to Jonas if Kenny picked Nebraska.

  13. Anouncement at 1pm Sat the 29th.

To be honest there are so many rumors right now , I dont know what he is going to do.

Reminds me of reggie smith a couple years ago.

Remind me what happened with Reggie smith.

He was a heavy NU lean as I recall, even told John Blake he was coming to Nebraska. One signing day, picks OU.

I'm not holding my breath, but I wouldn't be shocked if he picked Nebraska, although I would say all things considered Michigan has a slight lead.

  14. I suppose TO had nothing to do with Mike Rozier's success, as he was a JUCO as well.

Our entire o-line has been "developed" by Callahan (except for Nicks, although he has improved ten-fold from last year).

All our running backs are Callahan "developments"

Callahan has gotten a hell of a lot out of guys like Todd Peterson, Sean Hill, Nate Swift, etc. All of these guys don't have all-american talent, but have been developed into quality colligate players.

If it wasn't for Callahan we wouldn't have our best linebacker (Octavien) corner (Bowman) D-lineman (Suh)

  15. I don't know about that. He is from the Kansas City area so I dont' think there are a lot of schools as small as say a C-2 school (around 200 students). I'm not saying he is playing the best competition in the nation, but I would say it's at least as good as class B.

  16. If you really care about your education Cal would be a tough place to turn down. I know there has been alot of discussion about TR and Notre Dame and their education vs Nebraska and what not, but Cal is a whole other story altogether. Probably one of the best colleges in the country, right up there with the Ivy Leagues, plus you get to live in California. Sucks we didn't get him, but if I was from Arizona and could get into Cal, that would pretty hard to turn down.

Agreed...Cal-Berkeley is among the creme of the crop in American universities. All the same, for football players...what difference does it make? Still, it is hard to turn down and I'm disappointed we didn't get him.

Like I said "if" you care about your education, at least as much or more as you do about football. If all he cares about it playing in the NFL, there are probably better or equal places for him to go. If he is thinking about the bigger picture, Cal is an almost unmatchable opportunity.

  17. If you really care about your education Cal would be a tough place to turn down. 18. Seems that Cal may have the inside track at this point, but it's still early. His official with Kuli is going to be key in showing him what we have to offer, not to mention it doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize we could use some help on the D-line. Right now I would put our chances at about 30-40%, but they could go up as time goes on.

  19. First of all, he's only a RS Freshman, so he is probably fairly far down on the "depth chart"

Secondly, at the point when he would have gotten in, we weren't doing a whole lot of passing anyway (not that we did a whole lot to begin with). WR was the one position where the blowout wasn't probably going to result in alot of playing time.

  20. If he didn't want to be here he wouldn't be. He could very easily be an OC in the NFL, in fact Jon Gruden offerred it to him when he left Oakland. If he was dying to get back to the NFL, like so many believe, he would spend a couple years as an OC then probably get offerred a HC gig, as they open up quite frequently in the NFL these days. He enjoys college, I think his time in Oakland kind of soured him on the NFL (not surprising with Al "Crypt Keeper" Davis) He will be here for a long, long time.....much to the dismay of some, but to the delight of many more.
