  1. I think Keller is a better qb and is better but most of the most successful qbs in the west coast offence have been small and not the most talented such as Montana and gannon, but Keller is just to much better than ganz

    John Elway? Steve Young?

While it may be true that a guy doesn't need to have a huge arm to be a successful WCO quarterback, saying the best have been small and not talented is certainly not true,

  2. It's good to see them recognizing how bad our return game was last year and trying to fix it and early!!!! The bigger problem than this is second half play and if our guys can play as good in the second half as they do in the first half. <_<

It sure would be nice if they could figure this out in year four. The coverage teams suck too. The special teams as a whole have been bad for the last 3 years.

Two years ago we were among the national leaders in punt returns. Lucky also had a kick return for a touchdown that was called back on a hold way away from the play. Congdon set a freshman record for field goals as well.

Last year's ST were not good, that's obvious. But since you obviously hate this staff, I wouldn't expect you to actually do any research, sweeping generalizations are more your style.

  3. Sweet move by the coaching staff having Lucky in late in a meaningless scrimmage to possibly get lost for the year. As thin as we are at RB that is a stupid move.

This has all been talked about in another thread, but it was a PRACTICE. You don't ask players to only play 3/4 of a regular practice. THe only way to prevent injuries completely is to have no contact and that has consequences as well.

Your handle is so pathetic it's funny. "ForRealBigRedFan" my ass, you may have been a fan at one point in the school's history but it's obvious you no longer are one.

  4. These guys are entitled to their opinions. Obviously there are problems with the administration and coaches. These players are real Huskers who poured their blood sweat and tears into this program and what they say means something. It used to be a family, now its a program.

You two-faced fair weather fans who are ripping the former players should be ashamed of yourselves.

    pot meet kettle

    :asshat

  5. Hopefully anyone that has a Rival subscription will read a post on RSS from a former player who says this whole "being alienated" from the program is more from the players doing than it is the administration. Without going into details, as it is premium info, former players are all invited to practices and receieve detailed practice schedules to plan when they can come.

I understand that not having the coaches you played for here would make it a little uncomfortable, but I have not read one instance where these disgruntled players ever gave a specific instance where they were not allowed to participate in football affairs. All they say is they feel like outsiders or don't feel connected. Perhaps if they made a greater effort, they wouldn't feel this way. JMHO.

  6. Not sure who you were watching but Witt looked good. He was behind a weak O-Line and facing the #1 Defense. He had a lot drop balls. He did much better than his stats. He will redshirt and be a serious threat in 3 years.

I think he could be a serious threat in 08.

  7. Okay......we might as well begin this long awaited and much discussed topic..... time to "sound-off" as that dick-head Travis Justice would say.....

Here is my take....not right or wrong....jsut my take.

Keller is the solid #1....and has been in BC's mind since day 1..... BC has to give Ganz a complete look because of his knowledge and dedication to the team.....Now, GAnz is a very good player...do not mistake that for an instance, but Keller is the NFL typ of QB that makes a WCO guy drool.......

Unfortunatley, I see Ganz as the Matt Turman of the 2008 season..... he will be very reliable and capable if Sam goes down, but will only get his chances if mop-up or emergency.

Furthermore, if Zach Lee is everything some of you guys are reporting OR if the rumor mill about Patrick Witt is accurate.....poor Joe may be a career Matt Turman....

I LIKE JOE GANZ.....I am just telling it like I see it...

    I agree 100%

Joe is a great guy and a pretty decent QB, but Keller is simply better. We are lucky to have a guy like Joe, as he is much better than probably more prepared to play than 90% of backups in college football.

I also think he will have a heck of a battle on his hands come 2008 for the starting spot. IMO either Witt or Lee will win out, but that is just my opinion. Witt is physically better to Joe and by all accounts (and watching Saturday) he has grasped the offense very well. I think Zac Lee is even more physically ready, but it remains to be seen how he will pick up the offense.

Again, Joe is a great kid and I love his attitude and moxie, but I just don't think he will ever start fo NU.

  8. That's all well and good, and you make some good points. However, the fact is if Lucky had not been injured NOBODY would be complaining about he or any other starter being in the 4th quarter. That's what makes the spring game different than a real game. If any starter was in a game late in the 4th when we are up 38-0, I would go ape sh**. But the reality is, nobody would even be bringing up the fact that Marlon got a carry in the 4th if it weren't for him being hurt. It's easy to say (and justify) after the fact that it was wrong, but in reality it was just an unfortunate event, rather than a stupid decision on the coaches (Watson) part.

  9. and come the 4th qtr...get the starters OUT !!!!!

Are you kidding me? It's a PRACTICE!!! It's not a game, it's not like we need to get the starters out to save them for next weeks game. Injuries can happen at anytime. Would you recommend only having the starters practice 3/4 of every practice? It's spring, all the players need reps, especially the ones we are going to be relying on this coming year. The only way to prevent injuries would be to put all the players you can't afford to lose in a padded room and make then stay there till Sept 1.

Keeping starters in a game that is out of hand during the season = stupid

Keeping starters in a PRACTICE during spring = completely normal

The Spring Game is only a game for the fans, for the players it is a practice. It is a chance for them to show coaches they can perform in a game-like setting, but so are the other scrimmages during the spring.

And for anyone wondering, according to Steve Sipple in his blog, Marlon is fine and was seen walking without crutches at the NU softball game today. Seems like the reports of a sprain are accurate and Marlon should be just fine.

  10. BRC, I've read the exact opposite about Gabbert's day in Lincoln yesterday, FWIW.

We must not be reading the same premium content then.

I would be surprised to get a big QB commit this year. We still have Ganz for 1 year, Witt for 4-5 and Lee for 3-4. Unless a kid is really looking for competition or doesnt' mind waiting his turn, I just don't think this is the year for QB recruiting. Last year we did very well to get both Lee and Witt. I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Point is, QB is not a top priority this year. Would be nice to get a another good prospect, but it's not vital.

  11. Murtha is the one lineman I wouldn't be worried about putting on too much "bad" weight. The dude is ripped and has never been fat by any means. He is the only lineman I have ever seen with 6-pack abs, just a freak physical specimen. Now, if he could just up his intensity, he would be a great lineman for us.

Here's to hoping for a quick and full recovery.

  12. Nebraska should have Tom Osborne as the athletic director.

No offense to either Brodrick or TO, but I disagree with this statement 100%

TO chose to leave football/athletics 10 years ago. Since that time he has done nothing to keep in tune with today's college athletics. He chose to go into politics, which is fine, but too much has changed in 10 years for him to all of a sudden get back into it like he never left. Tom is old school, college sports aren't. Like it or not college sports (especially football) is big business and I don't think TO would fit that mold very well.

  13. I have to say I really don't think Keller and Ganz are that close. Keller has the better arm, better pocket presence, and makes quicker reads/decisions (quicker than Taylor IMO). Having said that, Ganz did impress me with how he knew the offense and certainly looked better than he did last year. His ability to move around it also an asset for him, but I think he looks to run a little to quickly. I think he is a fantastic back-up, but IMO, not a starter (at least not ahead of Keller).

Anyone that was not impressed with Witt either wasn't paying attention or doesn't know football. He has a great arm and made great decisions. He was on the White team, which means he had all of 2 seconds to make plays, but he looked light years ahead of Davis who has been on the team for 3 years. I would also go as far as to say Witt looked better in this game than I ever saw Harrison Beck look for the Huskers. He is going to be a big time player and unless you are really obsessed with "star" ranking it should be obvious that we got a "big-time" recruit. Plus you have to remember, HE GRADUATED HIGH SCHOOL FOUR MONTHS AGO. He should be picking out a tux for prom, but instead is apparently grasping this "impossible" offense at an astaunishing rate.

  14. Asante needs to learn the defense better (which is why it is such a plus that he was here for spring). It's obvious he is physically better than any safety we've had in a long time, just needs to get the mental part down. Good thing is there is a whole summer and 30 practices before the first game.

Odds of becoming a Cornhusker: 100% Wow, out of nowhere. Looks to have great size and speed. Coach Wyatt pulls in a good one early.

  16. I watched some rivals footage of him yesterday. He has awesome pass blocking skills, and very solid technique!!!!! :bonez

And check out who he is going against in some of that film. It's none other than Mr. 5-star Ryan Miller, Bryce absolutely destroys him a couple of times.

  17. By this point, most people that planned on going aren't going to all of a sudden decide not to go because it's on NFL network. None of the cable providers (to my knowledge) in Nebraska show NFL Network, you have to have a dish. I don't think this will have as big of an impact as, say, having it on ESPN. Then I would agree that some people would stay home.

Plus, the weather looks like it is going to be fairly nice now. Highs in the 50's with NO rain. Hopefully that holds up, that will be the deciding factor in attendance. Nice day = BIG crowd

  18. BC has no excuses now. He had better get one of the top QBs.

If you can look past the "stars" and the hype I think Patrick Witt is going to be a very, very good QB. Just because the all-knowing recruiting services didn't have him as one of the "top QB's" doesn't mean he won't end up as one.

Also, Zack Lee was the "top" JUCO QB in the country and has 4 years to play 3.
