Thats what Riley said in the post-game presser. The fact that “impact migraine” isn’t an actual medical term makes it seem like he bonked his head, but he’ll be okay.

Yeah to me it just sounded like a way to avoid using the "C" word without actually using it. I hope he's alright and they don't put him out there if he's not 100% healthy and no risk of further damage.

  2. I really don't understand what good firing Riley now does besides satiating some sort of blood lust. I'm going to watch the last two games, he should have to too and we're still paying him and will be for how many years after he's gone? So might as well keep him to the end. Yeah I get the coaches are fighting but so what? At least it's entertaining.

I'm not trying to start an argument, I just legitimately don't understand what the positive is.

We are pretty sure that Coach Riley is gone.  But I saw a team yesterday that did not quit.  Some would say it was just Northwestern, but in the prior weeks they have beaten both Iowa and Michigan State, who in turn yesterday beat Penn State and Ohio State.  I think a lot of teams we play are better than we give them credit for.

Just hope who ever ends up with this job has the ability to make the fan base happy.  Not by just saying yes, but on the field results.

I'm sure it's a mixed bag, but I saw a team that acted dead during the prayer before the tunnel walk. First time I ever saw anything like it was a couple weeks earlier before the Ohio State game, that was the deadest tunnel walk I've ever seen.

But I agree with the original poster, no reason to be brutal to anyone. Perhaps everything those kids are going through is why some of them look like they are just going through the motions.

  4. NIU for me too. I took that game the hardest. That game eliminated the last glimmer of hope as far as what we had as a team. As far as I was concerned it eliminated us from bowl eligibility, really the bare minimum of what I wanted this season. After that I thought Wisky would be closer than it ended up being but I didn't think we were gonna win, so not that hard to take. OSU I knew would be bad so it was more of a dentist appointment than a game, again, saw it coming just a matter of how bad it would be.

  5. I appreciate the optimism of the OP. Don't ever lose that! It makes up for all us other sinners who can only see the darker outcomes (such as myself).

I learned the hard way after going 7-0 last year and then almost beating Wisky only to be spanked back to earth by OSU. One game at a time.

The Illinois game is exciting because I think we can actually win it, it's gonna be hard once we get to Ohio State/Penn State etc. But I'll be there, whether it be 8-0 down the stretch or 0-8.

Yeah, I get what you are saying BUT (huge but) if they do get Frost and his does well here he will be here for 25 years...he wouldn't leave for another job if he was winning the West every other year.  You know?

Yes, I'm hoping if we do get Frost he breaks the cycle. Just pointing out how amazingly cyclical we have been since Oz retired.

So where are the control groups in all this research? I've heard that the tau protein in CTE can be found in people who haven't participated in contact sports, but all the research seems to focus solely on those who have. That seems like bad science. I'm not saying their isn't a link, or that this isn't serious, but the research is far from ideal from these studies. How do we know that some people aren't more susceptible than others?

I don't know anything about brain proteins or whatever but I too have wondered about a control group. Surely they're looking at brains from non-contact subjects for a control right?

I think the anti-Bo tag line was used as reasoning that "Riley was the name on the one name list".  I didn't buy it then, I don't buy it now.  I came around to it for a while, but looking at it now him being the only guy Eichorst looked at makes no sense.  It makes WAY more sense that he offered Bielma but Arky caved last second so Eichorst made the call to Riley.

If that is the case that it never ceases to amaze me how much history repeats itself, didn't Pedey send a private jet to pick up Houston Nutt at Arkansas only for the jet to come back empty? That after firing a coach who had just finished one year with his retooled assistant coordinators, including a new DC?

Also, this feels like the "Go get a Nebraska guy" part of the cycle where all the fans want a particular guy, the AD is fired and they go get that guy everybody wants. Pelini last cycle, Frost this cycle.

People are really under the impression that if/when Riley is fired, that we will be able to go get a big name coach?

We fired Solich after a 9-3 season. What top tier coaches knocked down the door to get this job then?

We fire Riley after just barely 2 years on the job - you're gonna have a repeat of settling for another coach, rather than getting a top tier hire.

Yep, I said it in another thread, I'm not even sure what I want anymore. People forget what a disaster the Callahan search was. Even then nobody wanted to come here.
