  1. I got the "Site is unsafe" page when trying to log in. It said this sites security certificate expired two days ago. I tried dumping my cache, I "Continued Anyway" and my latest post when I try to edit it the changes don't seem to stick. And sometimes have #'s and stuff where the ' and other punctuation should be. Using Chrome.

  2. I think the fact that EVERY little thing is reviewed in college vs NFL and similar reviews for the lovely targeting bs. Scoring plays, turnovers and let coaches challenge, that's it.

This seems to come up about every 10 years. I remember this coming up last during the Callahan days so I suppose we're do.

Nebraska is about the only game I watch "live" otherwise it's pause, check to see if I'm still married and have kids,...maybe talk to them, see how old they are, then get back to the game and buzz through the commercials and endless replay review.s

  3. As far as I know this will be the first stop Miles hasn't been able to turn around a team. Makes me wonder if it's just not do-able here at Nebraska. We don't have a history of opening up the checkbook, even in football so I just envision another 4 to 6 year fall guy.

All of the state of the art facilities....I think we may have missed our window.

Yes someday we might accidentally catch on fire and win a tourny game in my lifetime, but it will be a statistical abnormality.

  4. 7 years to win a conference title..... made it 3 times, but went 0/3.

Riley will need to win the West either next year or 18' -then win the B10 by 2019 season (when his contract is up) or he can see the door.

Sad to think we are coming up on 20 years without a conference title... 20!!!

I've said it before and I'll say it again. Winning a conference title is on a different tier now that we are in a league with 14 teams, 7 just in our division vs 8 in our entire conference during "the good old days" plus now we have a championship game. Even in the chaotic 12 you had four additional teams all of whom voted to stack the odds against us. Yes, we're not as good as we were 20 years ago but I don't look at our lack of a conference championship as some sort of unfathomable failure.

  5. I think it's a realistic expectation to win all of the games you should win (Purdue, Illinois, etc.) and then not get blown out on national television. I think a lot of people would be muuuch happier with this season if we didn't lose to Iowa and OSU the way we did. Nobody was that upset about the Wisconsin game, it was disappointing for sure, but at least a tough game. But losing in humiliating fashion on national tv has defined Nebraska football for a while now. I don't think we get over the hump until we stop that trend, nobody takes us seriously anymore because we get embarrassed on the big stage almost every year. Beat the bottom teams and play the top teams close, especially on prime time television. I don't think that's an unreasonable or inflated expectation for Nebraska football.

If we had the same record and lose to Iowa by less than 7 and to OSU by less than 15, I think people would have a different view on this season. I would anyways.

Love the name, one of my favorite episodes ever.

  6. I've given this a lot of thought and finally settled on 8.

8 wins. Always be competitive for Big Ten West crown.

Occasional outliers on down side are not desired but tolerated (barely), in the case of that I could be talked into a bowl game at minimum.

  7. Realistic Expectations?

(The sarcastic side of me wants to post something snarky.)

However, I will answer the question as intended...

    1. Players that have the speed, athleticism, size, strength, etc to be able to compete with any team nationally on any field.

    2. Players who play every snap with 100% effort/motor/heart.

    3. Players that are coachable.

    4. Players that stay out of trouble with the law. (This applies to our coaches also.)

    5. Players that go to class and graduate.

    6. Players that are involved with the community.

I figure, we get all six of those points (or, at the bare minimum 1-3) and the wins/championships will take care of itself.

Good post, can't help but wonder what the snarky side was going to unleash.....

C'mon.....let the snark flow....this is a message board after all.....

  8. I've wondered this myself at times, esp. when there were stories/pics/write ups in the off season about it, but it's kind of water under the bridge now. He might not even play in the bowl game.

I will miss him thought. Certainly never a dull moment :) . It's a shame he didn't get to play on his senior day.

  9.

Important to note that Stanton started at UNLV but was injured in September. The backup did better than him and started the rest of the year.

    He was benched at UNLV

This tells you how well the previous staff recruited.

Sounds a lot like Joe Dailey when he went to Duke.

And Beck at NC State and Green at Tulsa. I think out of them all Green had the most success but I don't think he exactly lit the world on fire. Oh, and that kid that transferred to Yale, I think he did well enough he made the Senior Bowl, don't think he got drafted though.

  10. I seem to suffer from a sort of football based narcolepsy where the more exciting a football game is and the closer that game is to a conclusion the more likely I am to black out. So much so I missed a large portions of arguably the most exciting game of more recent times the Boise State/Oklahoma bowl game.

With the advent of the DVR this has lessened a bit but I still struggle weekly. Fighting all year long I relent and allow myself to watch a the same game every year with the full knowledge that I will fall asleep and that's okay. That game is the Army/Navy game. It's normally the only game on that day, the last of the college football season and I know it's not patriotic but it just feels right for some reason, so every year that's my "sleep game"

Another unique yearly tradition is that my wife and I watch "Mallrats" every year around Easter due to events in the movie correlating with that holiday.

What are some of your rather odd yearly traditions?

in case anyone cares, this year was a bit odd in that I feel asleep almost immediately after kickoff, woke up around halftime and then stayed awake for the end of the game. Then I watched the DVR'd Kansas game,...not fun, but wasn't expecting it to be.

  11. If this team doesn't show improvement next year. Mr. Miles can be shown the door. We have done nothing in his 4 years, outside of 6 week run. This team is no better then it was when he took over.

I really like the guy, but I wouldn't rule out a firing after this season. I've even heard him joke about it in post game. He know's he's about out of time.

  12.

    @HuskermanMike,

So, admittedly I have not actually seen the schedule for '17 yet...ooops. I just assumed since we went to Bloomington this year, we'd get the Hoosiers in Lincoln next year.

I wonder why we don't play Indiana next year, in Lincoln?

Its all good, I thought that we would play Indiana at home also, until I repeatedly checked the schedule. The schedule is set up really weird. I mean OSU three straight years and Indiana only once? That is really strange to me. Lets hope we can do well in 2017, especially at home. A 10-2 record would be a great step for us with losses to OSU at home and Penn State on the road. It would also send us to the CCG most likely.

I once asked and received a reply post from someone on this board who had cracked the Big Ten rotational code. I'll go looking for it. It was pretty awesome.

  13. I really want the Riley thing to work out in the worst way but I was going to say this:

    7 or less wins...Riley "retires"

    Until I saw this:

I honestly don't think it matters what happens next year. Even if we take a step backwards -- which is likely, with our current talent and next year's schedule -- no way will Eichorst admit that his hire wasn't the right one.

Only way Riley gets fires is if Eich gets Peterson'd after an Okie State like halftime walk out like during the Cally days. And if that happens TO won't come back to right the ship this time.

  14.

Many moon ago during my late teens/early twenties, every Xmas I would bonk this chick that would come back from Ohio to visit her family. I called it the YuleTide romp.

Also, we would put up an Xmas tree in our bach pad basement and decorate it with panties and a naked barbie on a stripper pole. Good times.

Now....my wife and I play KENO in Hastings with her side of the family every year the day after Xmas...

    Sucks getting old...doesn't it.

I was never that cool, even before I got old. No annual "bonks" even in my glory days.

  15. I thought of another one, my wife and I have Monty Pythons "Holy Grail" on repeat as we wrap Christmas Presents, this is something I've done even before I met her but I enjoy her embracing my preexisting tradition. Every year she stops at the "Dennis outside of the autonomous collective castle" part of the movie and laughs like it's the first time she's seen it.
