  1. this team could do a lot. We have more talent than since Osborne, at least according to Rivals and Scout. Get a motivator in here and we could seriously win 10 games next year.
  2. But when you fire a .750 coach - whether or not it was a good idea - you aren't going to have quality candidates to step forward.
  3. A .750 coach was fired. The result of that was that no decent candidates were interested. A desperation hire was made, and the rest is history.
  4. Competent anything is sounding pretty good right about now.
  5. To Bill Callahan: Are you looking forward to being an offensive line coach next year?
  6. While I like Rimington's Nebraska ties, have there been examples of success moving from the business world to running an athletic department? Just wondering if it's been done. With an annual budget exceeding $70 million, trust me: Nebraska athletics is big business.
  7. "I think from my own experiences that overreactions generally cost you somewhere down the line," Pederson said. "And when you take a long-term view of things they generally work out. Well he is finding out firing a coach that went 9-3 (No matter who the coach is ) was a overeaction and now it's most likely going to cost him his reputation and job. Say what you want about Solich, but when you go around firing .750 coaches, you're screwed on several levels.
  8. Dear *****, Thank you for taking time to send me an email expressing your concerns about our program. However, I think that a number of quotes that you attributed to me have been misinterpreted. Let me go over a few of those with you: "I will not let this program gravitate toward mediocrity". What I meant was that we would get there as quick as we can. Thankfully, we have arrived. "We want to play for national championships." What I meant was the volleyball, bowling, and robotics teams. "We want to be competitive immediately." And actually we are, at least with some of the teams. Were you at the Ball State game by chance? How competitive was that? "We will not concede the conference to UT and OU". What I meant was we'll hang around and make laughingstock of ourselves and embarrass the conference. In closing, I will tell you that Harvey and I are taking a close look at the program. I feel if our team just had more player meetings, we'd probably be all set. Cosgrove is going to be OK - he's a professional just look at those armbands dude's got on. And no, coach C wasn't clueless on TV the other night. He was thinking "Boy do I have a sweeeeet parachute." Take care. Pud
  9. I think Cally would be a great waterboy could we not just transfer him to that?
  10. but it is my sincere hope that Callahan truly manages to destroy this team by the end of the season, losing nearly all our remaining games and by a large margin. This way at least we may be able to rid ourselves of him soon, and not have to suffer through many more years of mediocrity with nothing but more bullsh#t and excuses to comfort us in the future. X THESE PLAYERS DESERVE BETTER.
  11. Adjustment? Heck that's Callyspeak. How about a house cleaning?
  12. After losing to USC, Callahan was asked about his team's performance, and he said something like "This is America, and in America we expect excellence." WHAT THE HECK KIND OF ANSWER IS THAT YOU SCREWBALL???
  13. OK so we can't fire him. Fine, let's keep him as "head coach" and hire some big gun (Cowher, etc.) to serve as "offensive coordinator" and Venables as "defensive coordinator". But if Cally's going to stay "head coach", he must agree to be under house arrest throughout the remaining term of his contract.
  14. What if Perlman says to Pederson "Screw you you dip wad, I'm making the change myself", and proceeds to fire Callahan. What can Pederson then do to Perlman? Would Perlman then select the new coach, too?
  15. First of all, Pud will have to fire Cally to save his own neck. But there will be no news conference. It will be announced through a mass email with the subject line "You have received an e-greeting card from a certain Steve Pederson!"
  16. I think we've all been duped. Thank you for reminding us again.
  17. I don't think anyone's saying Frank or Turner would be better. But it's a decent bet that any viable candidate would be at least as good. While I really liked Solich, and I really like Callahan, too, I understand why Pederson made the change. He just made a bad hire. He'll need to fix it - that's the guys' job.
  18. I don't think you need to be an armchair QB to know this is a disaster.
  19. I would write a check for $5,000 today to help get this guy bought out. If we could round up 1000 of me, we'd have it done and over with.
  20. You're dreaming. After this year's showing, recruiting is DOA. We've got to get this guy outa here and get on with it.
  21. There are plenty of Nebraska faithful with jack enough to write a check for the guy's buy out and never even know it's missing. It will happen. I will go on record and say that he will not be the football coach after the Colorado game.
  22. Callahan will not resign or be fired until his contract is up. He is here for a few more years. I totally disagree. If he's back next year, there will be a rebellion of untold proportions at Nebraska, and the administration knows it full well. A buy-out of some sort is on the way you can bet on it.
  23. First of all, I think we can all agree at this point that things aren't going to work out with Callahan. I am sure Steve Pederson knows the same, even if he isn't saying so publicly, which he shouldn't. So, do you cut your losses now and find a way to pay Callahan's contract out? NU might say "we can't afford it," but at this point, can we (NU) afford not to? At stake is untold $$ millions in lost revenue to the school, lost TV exposure, etc., etc. The type of millions that would make a buy-out look like pennies. So after the season, do you say "You're fired, and here's a check for your remaining term"? or do you say "Look, we both know this isn't working. Why don't we allow you to resign and we will come to terms with you on a pay-out"? If I'm Callahan, I would rather resign and get $4 million, than be fired and get $6 million. How would this work?
