Unranked even if we finish 3 - 0.

But, by the time we play OSU on 09/28, we will not only be ranked but that game will be a nationally televised Saturday night game.

I'll take it one step further, that game will be chosen in March/April - whenever they choose their top picks- as a primetime game. We won't have to wait until September 16th to find out the game time for that one. Oh, and it'll be our first GAMEDAY since USC. ;)

Just look at the 500 mile radius surrounding Columbus compared to that of Lincoln and you will see exactly why we will never recruit on their level. We have some places to go but they have deep fields of talent in all directions.

Which is why me must develop our kids better.

Definitely can get closer.  And then develop and coach our way from there.

I'm not really even sure we can get the same level of starters.  Ohio State has more five-stars on their roster right now than we've probably had in the history of the program.  But if we can get close on the starters, that would be great.  Then develop the back-ups enough they they out-perform their ratings.

Yeah you're right...But if we get 4-stars - can't we coach and develop them up to be "5 -stars"?

Maybe I'm wrong, maybe we have a better shot at matching depth than we do at matching starting talent caliber.

They have too many disadvantages.  Mostly location.

    Right.

But we can get closer, and we can close the gap with proper development and S&C.

I think you said this, but I think we can get to the same talent level in our starting lineups, just never the depth that those 2 programs have with talented dudes.

And on that train of thought, I really like that we play Wisconsin late in the season next year. Gives this rebuild all the more time to dial things in by that point to be able to beat Wisconsin.

On paper, not winning the West next year would seriously just be sad. We basically have the most favorable schedule you can really ask for. But we have to get over the hurdle of terrible special teams, constantly giving up 3rd & longs...the list goes on and on.

We didn't give up constant third and longs on Saturday.....

If we finish out 3-0, I still do not think we enter the year in the top-25. We'll likely be close to it, but will need to show it on the field before we find our way back in.

3-0 finish isn't showing it on the field?

Finishing 5-1 in the second half of the season with the only loss being to a Top 10 opponent on the road?

  7. What will be our pre-season ranking next year after we finish this season out 3-0?

    Top 10?

    Top 25?

    Unranked?

    Give me your number.

(It is not hypothetical that we finish this season 3-0, it's fact)

Still blows my mind that 66.6% of Huskerboard voters chose Gebbia as the one to start, just before the starting QB was officially named by SF.

I think most of us thought that because we haven't had that much success at QB recently and we wanted depth.

At least the voters were right that our depth would be shocked if we chose Martinez haha.

Wonder what his stats on Saturday would have been without the drops. Those dropped passes were right where they needed to be. Except for that one bizarre moment, Martinez did everything he could have possibly done to win.

I think that is the point of these different stat metrics. Mistakes by others don't hurt Martinez' rating,  I think that's the point of it.

I have a topic going about this. There's a very slim chance but I update it every week. In 2016 2 5 win teams went to a bowl game, and in 2017 no 5 win teams went to a bowl game.

There are 78 available spots. If there aren't enough 6+ win teams then it goes by APR, and we have these teams ahead of us in APR (that don't already have 6 wins):

There are a couple teams tied with us but I don't keep track of them because Nebraska would be picked over them in any bowl game.

Any clue where we are at for number of teams qualified already?

The thing is Spielman already plays some X if I'm not mistaken. Our recievers play all over right now, heck sometimes Mo Wash plays R as he has picked up the playbook. Its a strange scenario.

Yup. We moved Stanley Morgan into the slot a few weeks ago to get him more open looks, and it worked.

Now a story is being peddled by the Kentucky rivals writers that Frost promised him that Spielman is going to switch positions next year, and that Wandale would start in that position next year. Then, Wandale called on Wednesday to confirm, and Frost denied promising anything, and that's what prompted the switch.

What a soap opera. Probably best to move on and focus on the guys that want to be here, like Johnson and Thompkins.

    It's so much bulls#!t.

The offensive switch makes NO sense.

Nebraska would've used Wandale EXACTLY how they are using Washington & Spielman and intend to use Miles Jones that way.

The way planned? To get it in his hands in space. The real problem here is the same problem we used to have recently. Kentucky doesn't know what an offense looks like, so they are just thinking inside the box and that's how Wandale will be used at one strict position. Not happening with dudes at Nebraska.
