The 8 that are smarter than us are of no consequence unless they are tied with Nebraska at 5 (or 6) wins at the end of the season.  But the fact that there are 127 teams with 5+ wins almost surely means that there will be the 78 with 6+ to fill the bowls without calling on a 5 win team.

I don’t believe they take into consideration APR at 6 wins.

Also, there are not 127 teams with 5+ wins already.

Regarding the APR, Nebraska is currently tied for 28th (and was Tied for 34th the season before).

    We are tied with:

    T28 Nebraska 980 (1-6)

    T28 Kent State 980 (1-7)

    T28 Georgia Tech 980 - currently 3-4 record.

    T28 Connecticut 980 (1-6)

The 25 teams ahead of Nebraska (and those other schools, above):

    T25 Maryland 981 (4-3)

T25 Louisville 981 - not gonna make it probably (2-5)

    T25 Central Michigan 981(1-7)

    T21 Temple 982 (5-3)

    T21 Army 982 (5-2)

    T19 Minnesota 983 (3-4)

    T14 Pitt 984 (3-4)

    T14 Middle Tennessee 984 (4-3)

    T14 Kansas State 984 (3-4)

    T12 Boston College 985 (5-2)

    T8 Nevada 986 (4-4)

    T8 Illinois 986 (3-4)

    T4 Navy 992 (2-5)

    4 Duke 992 (5-2)

    T2 Vanderbilt 993 (3-5)

T2 Air Force 993 (3-4) chance to get to 6-6

1 Northwestern 997 (4-3) they are gonna get eligible

I erased all teams that are bowl eligible already and PAC12 teams.

Tre Neal wasn't here last season...

Funny thing is, I listened to this interview with Neal, and I don't think he ever said 20 times more confident than last season.

I think he said 20 times more confidence than BEFORE.... Who knows what he meant by before though.

    EDIT:

    Just re-watched...

Never said last season boys....nice work.

He just said "so-so is playing with 20 times more confidence."

We. Aren’t. On. The. Mother. Trucking. Team.

It doesn’t change one effing thing if we talk about the 5 national championships in a row Nebraska is going to win from 2019-2023.

To make matters worse (RE: your post), this topic is specifically for talking about crazy s#!t.

    shhh...he's not worthy.

Based on this hypothetical, I still don't see us beating Iowa this year.

    5-7 then?

Hypothetically, I see a Bowl Game (meaning some city's Chamber of Commerce) needing a 5-win team (particularly one that just happens to have some great Story Lines and a fan base that travels extraordinarily well) to get an invite. (You heard it here first). Nebraska made a bowl game under this criteria just fairly recently, didn't they?

Right, but we have to be tops in APR or near tops...or have teams in front of us decline. or have it be a PAC12 school, which apparently said no more 5 win teams get to go.

Coaching/school/etc aside I gotta think having a known quantity at QB with Martinez coupled with the fact that AM is a frosh meaning he could be the QB for the majority of your college career is pretty darn appealing.  Purdue loses Blough this year and Haskins seems tailor made to be a 3 and done guy.

Yeah, I would say it's safe to assume tOSU would have another good QB for him to play with. Not sure on Purdue.

Here's a better hypothetical -   Wisc, Iowa , Purdue, NW start loosing games in droves.  We march into Iowa and vanish the last team in the way of us playing Michigan in a revenge game for the conf Championship.  MiChicken marches into the game thinking they are MiEagle and Mr HardHead (MiChicken head coach) has his team over confident and unprepared.  The Triplets2nd Edition (AM and changeable parts at WR and RB ) march in  and with a surgical attack reminiscent of NU's dismantling of Florida in 1995 we stretch out said MiChicken's neck and cut it off.  NU 65 - MiChicken 0

Hey, if you are going hypo - go all the way or go home.  :restore2

Got 5 more weeks of hypotheticals. Slow yer roll. Am I doing that right?

PS. Just went through the rest of the schedule and it's actually possible, but it would require the correct teams winning head to head matchups and then Illinois and Rutgers somehow beating some good teams.

The best way to stop our offense is to have them on the sideline.  I think our offense can have success against them, but when they dont then our defense will be put through the ringer of body blows known as power football.  It will be an interesting matchup of contrasting styles. If we can get up early on them we could put a lot of pressure on them and put them in a situation we could create some turnovers.  I would just figure this as a loss until we can prove we can stop a team like them.

I feel like having already played Wisconsin helps us in this area. We know what it feels like and can be prepared a little bit more for it now.

I wonder if any team has ever starter 0-6 and ended 7-6.

Obviously we have a pretty huge obstacle called Ohio State and another one called penalties and turnovers, but this is the hypothetical topic.

Could Coach Frost break yet another record?

Would be awesome. I feel like tOSU is definitely on tilt, so might be our best chance in a few years to beat them.

Michigan State has been playing better with the PSU victory and Iowa is Iowa.

Winter is coming so the weather could slow our offense.

Interesting thought. Winter comes every year though, do you believe this could be an issue for our offense annually?

Where did you come up with that based on the words I’ve used?

I’m saying we win every game left before and after the Ohio State game regardless of whether we beat Ohio State.

    Haha. I’m a little confused.

So you are saying... we either go 5-7 with loss to tOSU or 6-6 with win?

  11. 2 minutes ago, swmohusker said:

I doubt it.  With the way Iowa has been playing defense, plus our inability to play defense I dont see us beating Iowa (ugh).  If Stolt can play then it would definitely help us out with this game, but we will struggle at the LOS with them.  Hope we can spread them out and get some mismatches when we are on offense.

That’s interesting. I don’t see many teams “stopping” our offense the rest of the year.

I do agree that our defense probably won’t hold up against many teams that control the LOS though.

Speaking hypothetically, it would be a phenomenal way to end the season playing Iowa 5-6 with bowl eligibility on the line.  Hypothetically, Wisky drops another conference game and Iowa (at 10-1) needing the win to represent the west.....We go ahead and get bowl eligible by beating Iowa and ruining their chances to win the West.....Now that's the way to finish this hypothetical scenario.

Dude...Come on man, I've got like 4 more weeks of hypotheticals to come up with. Do you think this stuff is easy? Quit stealing my material! ;)

Yes.....if we win the rest of the games up to the Iowa game we will beat Iowa.

Boom, you also get to move on to the bonus question. https://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/88090-lets-get-hypothetical-game-7/

In your hypothetical yes we win out. The confidence and electricity would be too strong to stop us. We would be a very interesting team to watch out for next season in this scenario.

Wow. You've passed the test. You can now move on to the extra credit question: https://www.huskerboard.com/index.php?/topic/88090-lets-get-hypothetical-game-7/

I am just telling you the results are the same to me. I already think we’ll win those games.

So you think that even if we beat Ohio State, we still find a way to lose to 1 of the final 3 opponents to go 5-7?

I do think  we go to Columbus at 2-6.

I think we have a much better chance at beating OSU than we did a couple weeks ago.  I dont think we beat them, but I think it is a game for awhile.

I don't think we will get to 6-6.  4-8 would be a solid finish to a horrible start.  5-7 would be fantastic.

Toughness of opponents in order: OSU, Iowa, MSU, Illini, BCU

Games I think we win.... BCU, Illini, and....... MSU.

    So...back to my hypothetical.

According to you + me... we are rolling into Black Friday with a 5-6 record, chance to get to 6-6. Do we get there, if we are there?

  15. Just now, Moiraine said:

Yes. I already think we’ll win those games though. But I don’t think we’ll beat OSU.

Moiraine..you know the rules!!! You must pretend the hypothetical is real life. We have already beaten BC & tOSU in this thread of dreams.

  16. You guessed it,

    IT'S TIME TO GET HYPOTHETICAL!!!!!!!!!!!

Let's pretend we win this weekend, we jump to 2-6 overall.  We roll into Columbus on a cool November morning and take down the "champs."

We are now 3-6. Do you then believe we will win out and go 6-6 to qualify for a bowl game?

Remaining foes would be Illinois, Michigan State and @ Iowa.

  17. To be frank, this is probably for the best. Our guys need to continue to feel like they are being slighted. I can't imagine a scenario where us feeling like we are the kings of the B1G because of our ranking would be good for this team. Would completely smell like 2014, or whatever the heck year that was.
