It's a move designed to inject some immediate life into this thing to save the coaching staff.  They must win immediately and hope to catch lightning in a bottle.

This is exactly the reason they brought in Sam Keller...  to save a staff.

I think he could have been putting up Joe Ganz like numbers and would be looked at the same way.   I think a lot of his mental mistakes were because he was pressing too much because he was getting hit too often.   IMO he would have had less turnovers, been healthier and would have a winning percentage north of .650 with an above average line and would easily be in everyone's top 10 all time QBs at Nebraska.

Now Joe Ganz was a really good QB.  too bad Callahan took to long to figure that out.

  3. Adrian "turn over" Martinez.  will always be a controversial player for NU.  Clearly one of most talented athletes NU has ever had but often made absolutely critical mental gaffs, and way tooo many turnovers.

With that said, i will root for him at K-State.  the pressure there will not be a high as it was here.   with his shoulder surgery, i am curious if he even plays much next season, maybe does the 4 game thing and red-shirts to give shoulder more time to heal.

    Question for anyone.

Isn’t a player limited to only one transfer without having to sit out a year?

So, if this player did not sit out on his first transfer, wouldn’t he have to sit a year on the 2nd one? Just curious.

thought, if he did this transfer from BCU to CSU after one year at BCU, wasn't that before the portal?  if so, he may have already set out a year may?

Whipple knows literally everyone in the B1G, and throughout the coaching circles. There are some great takes in here, but the biggest one to me was when he says “Scott was really the reason.” at the 5:47 mark. I‘ll take that over what anyone in the fanbase has to say all day. He seems confident the team’s culture is in the right place to move forward. Some one make me a fresh bowl of KoolAid. Son-of-a-b!^@h… I’m bought in again.

i think Scott does have it right, problem we all see is that we going right along with Scott as he climbs the learning curve on being a head coach.  He only had two seasons of HC work and that was a group of 5 team.  not sure how much patience the fan base has.  everytime i think Scott is slipping, he does something to change that idea.  weather it is in recruiting or selecting an OC who is probably one of the best (at least one of the most experienced).

Which is why you Hire Busch as ST Coordinator and then let him help with the defense as he would be a massive asset.

Still think you need a dedicated RB coach, they under-performed last season (IMO due to O-line play).

I don't think it's a stretch to say he has the physical abilities.  If Adrian had played behind a great O-Line, maybe his story would be a lot different.  I do think he still has a shot to play on Sundays if he can put together a great 2022 on another team.

maybe he makes the NFL as a receiver or DB, not sure he would succeed as a QB with his turnovers (fumbles).  hard to pin all the fumbles on the O-line in this case.

Multiple message boards have done it.   It's about organizing and trusting.   It's not an easy endeavor to start up.  Key would be getting the top 3-4 Husker message boards funneling to the same account that can then be sent to the player(s) desired.   The issue will be figuring out who will be getting the funds.   Personally I think Texas has the right idea where every OL will get 150K annually.  Start with the big guys up front on both sides of the ball and work out from there.

would paying (or promising to pay) an athlete to come to your school be a major NCAA violation?  Once they arrive, signed and enrolled, sure the let the NIL money roll.

I've had a similar hunch lately. He's one of the very few you haven't heard much from.

I don't think NU needs two LB coaches. when Frost first arrived here, NCAA only allowed 9 assistants not the current 10.  so we hired Rudd with that 10th spot.  so, what i am suggesting let one of the existing LB coaches, coach the whole group.  either re-assign one of the coaches to an open spot (RB or ST) or simply $hit can one of the current LB coaches.  Then hire both a dedicated ST coach and a RB coach.  if the ST coach has spare time with their duties they can assist with the LB's or something.  However their primary duties would be ST.

  10. The worst part of this is that other then Cam Jergens (JR), every starter on the O-line is an underclassman.  They are going up against 5-6th year seniors with a ton more experience and weight room training,  I suspect that when these guys get to be 5-6th year seniors they will dominate and we will have forgotten all about their growing pains.  IMO we simply need to get some upper-class dudes with lots of experience from the portal (if that is even possible) to step in and play against these 5-6th year D-line players.  this will allow the under-classmen to learn from guys in-front of them (how the pipe-line worked) Our young O-linemen are getting their baptism by fire and will be pretty good one day (i am not giving up on all of them) but they do need development time.

Interesting, glad we’re looking for help in the trenches. OWH said he only started 2 games for N. Colorado? Seems like he would need to make a massive jump to contribute in the B1G.

If Nebraska/Power 5 schools are the Major Leagues (baseball analogy), the group of 5 would be triple A and northern Co would be what, double A?  Maybe he can make the jump and contribute, i would personally go get some beasts from a Power 5 school it at all possible.

  12. while i know about 90% of the good folks on this board want a dedicated special teams coach, i am thinking it may be a waste of coach position.  i have read that the average team only spends about 15 minutes a practice on special teams.   I also know that the problems are that we have a field goal kicker who had the yipps, and probably couldn't kick the ball over a barn, and punter that is brand new to the game.  I didn't see a lot of breakdowns (kicking) on the other 10 players.  Yes, Cam Britt was a mess on special teams (punt return) but his errors generally could be classified as aggressive errors, trying to make something happen on his own.  other punt returners simply fair caugt everything.  Scott definitely needs to dedicate resources to the return game (ST as a whole).  Maybe have two coaches combine special teams work and not one dedicated coach?  if they dedicate a coach who will spend 15 minutes a practice to ST, that does seem a bit wasteful.  the running back room really needs a dedicated coach.  Scott cannot ignore ST any longer, so I am glad I don't have the make this decision.  Scott could be the one to work with ST, his job depends on getting that part fixed.  Not sure i want to leave my Nebraska career in the hands of another coach that easily.

And, nobody will ever convince me their annalists aren't taking time to actually coach.  You know....like we got in trouble for.

yeah, that was sour grapes with someone who got let go.  Pure revenge is all that is.  IF the NCAA ever showed their backbone and audit all top 25 schools for this nearly, if not all, would be in violation of that rule.

I remember when Mike Riley was hired, I was like who??  BTW, I feel much different about HC hires.  This one?  Whatever, I never expected a "splash" hire.

Being from San Diego and see Rileys' $hit job when he was the head coach there first hand...  i was mortified when i found out his hiring at NU was true..  World's nicest coach but horrible, and i mean horrible head coach..

If I was coaching for my job and special teams was/is a very glaring weakness I think I would do it myself vs trusting my future employment to someone else.

I would keep Ron as RB coach and keep Busch as an analyst

Wonder how much time each week is spent on Special Teams.  I can fully see your point about his future employment..

  16. Will always wonder how good 2AM would have been if he had a good (and I mean really good) offensive line?  fact that he was running for his life most of the time can hardly be laid at his feet.  think about it, good OL = more time to find open receiver/TE, more holes for RB's.  it all starts in the trenches...

I have no problem with AM and respect him as a human, but disregarding him as some of the reasons these games didn't go as planned is naïve. It is fact he was never able to be the closer we needed to close out these games. A key mistake here, an overthrow there, and a crucial turnover when it matters the most. You cant blame it all on coaching. There was a whole slew of outcomes that could have been avoided if we just take care of the ball and put the damn ball in the end zone. It's definitely not all on him, but to not include him is not accurate.

While 2AM did have some horrible gaffs at the worst times, he kept us in most games by his play.  Always cheered for him up until last two minutes of game..  that was when his Mr. Hyde would show up.

  18. Just something to add to the discussion.  it looks like last coaching position will come down to two questions.

    1. Coach for Special teams (Busch)

    2. Coach for running backs (Brown).

this is a tough spot to (assuming no other staff re-alignments/departures)  Both are very good coaches and recruiters..

I would not want to make that call..

    your thoughts?
