  1. Here is the blurb about Darlington's HS career from his bio. The concussion issue (at least we were led to believe under the previous coaching regime) is one of the reasons he has not seen the field other than as a holder. If memory serves, Pelini honored the scholarship offer in spite of the concussion concerns. Who knows, we might be pleasantly surprised as we were with Fyfe's performance against the Turtles.

A preseason All-Florida selection in 2013, Darlington’s senior season at Apopka High was cut short after just one game because of injury.

Darlington was a two-year starting quarterback for one of the dominant prep programs in Florida. Playing for his father, Rick, the younger Darlington used his strong arm and great speed to lead Apopka to a 13-2 record in 2012, and the Class 8A state title. Darlington passed for 1,725 yards and 19 touchdowns, while also rushing for 708 yards and 10 touchdowns. In the state title game against Weston Cypress Bay, Darlington passed for 254 yards while rushing for 130 yards and three touchdowns. Darlington was named a Class 8A second-team all-state selection. As a sophomore, Darlington led Apopka to a 6-5 record.

Darlington was ranked among the top 15 dual-threat quarterbacks by 24/7 Sports. Darlington also had offers from Arizona, Boston College, Minnesota, Mississippi, North Carolina State, Ohio State, Virginia Tech and West Virginia among others, but only visited Nebraska.

  2. I think that this game really boils down to Langsdorf putting on the mental performance of his Husker career to date.

Throwing into the flats and finding high-percentage ways to spread the field out is the most likely way we win. The other way we win is if Tommy just has that "on" day where his 7 - 12 yard balls are on the money and he's finding his guys. If he starts hitting those routes, the running lanes open up.

If he misses those throws in the first half, here comes their blitzes, and it's over.

But...that's where it's Danny's job to find the high-percentage pass plays that *are working* and ride them down the field.

Couldn't agree more. We have not thrown many WR/bubble screens in the last few weeks. Need to make Wisconsin defend sideline to sideline. Our WR also have a size advantage over their DB Those that play are all under 6".

  3. Went to the 2 previous games. The number of Nebraska fans at the first game was incredible. Had to be at least 30k the first year. Never encountered any problems and had a great time on each trip other than we got manhandled both times.

  4. Here's some history on other programs who have gone through some hard times.

    Oklahoma: 1989-1999 (11 years) 4 coaches; 3 losing seasons; 2 .500 seasons; Bob Stoops first year 7-5

    Alabama: 1997-2007 (11 years) 4 coaches; 4 losing seasons; 1 .500 seasons; Nick Saban first year 9-6

So Cal: 1990-2001 (12 years) 4 coaches; 2 losing seasons; 3 .500 seasons; Pete Carroll first year 6-6

Notre Dame: 1997-2010 (14 years); 4 coaches; 4 losing seasons; 2 .500 seasons; Brian Kelly first year 8-5

    Michigan State: 1991-2010 ( 20 years) 5 coaches; 9 losing seasons (0-11 in 1994); 3 .500 seasons; Mark Dantonio first year 7-6

Nebraska: 2002-2014 (13 years) 4 coaches; 2 losing seasons; 0 .500 seasons, Mike Riley first year TBD

  5.

No suspensions. Awesome! Beat their best, so there are no excuses afterward.

As a coach...I like it a lot more when teams I play are missing important players. I always have. Never cared about excuses afterwards if we won.

Where did you see this, LSLHusker?

Earlier in the thread. "Mendenhall won't announce suspensions until after the Nebraska game."

  6. Just curious about our D-line coach. I know he is perceived to be the weakest link on the staff by many on the board, but we rarely, if ever, see or hear anything related to him. Nothing in the press, on the recruiting trail or even from the players he coaches.

    What is the story here?

  7. Not sure proximity to an amusement park is a deciding factor a recruit would consider. Places such as Tuscaloosa, AL and Columbus, OH are not exactly hotbeds of culture and entertainment. A D1 athlete typically has little free time what with workouts, practice ,film study as well as classwork both in season or out.
