Ok...I'm going to pick on you but don't take it personally. I hear this a lot.I am left wondering about the o-line. If there is no chance that the starters will be coming off the field during the game, what exactly is pushing them to perform at the top of their abilities?
I'll buy that the starters are the best players available. I find it hard to believe that their backups couldn't play harder and get better results.
I hope that makes sense. My brain to keyboard translator doesn't always synch.
Why the hell should it take the backup behind you to push you harder? How about being motivated to go kick the other teams ass? Especially one that is supposed to be a lot less talented than you.
The starters should be the leaders on the team showing the guys behind them how brutally hard you have to work to be successful and if you can't keep up then you are going to get your ass whooped in practice and look silly.
In a perfect world you would be absolutely correct. However, it's not that way in the world we live in. Competition breeds effort. I'm sure the kids play hard. But if they know there is someone there that the coach will replace them with if they don't hustle they will play a lot harder. That's been my experience while working the sideline anyway.

If we're voting for AD's I'll vote for Barry Alvarez. MR would probably promote Banker to the HC job.

Is this stuff gonna be on the test?

Lol, iirc the first string did that last year.
Maybe the second string falls over like dominos...that's all I got...I also have to believe that there is no way those guys can be worse.

I don't know that I have been a huge Riley fan. His hiring, quite frankly, puzzled me. I decided to give him a fair chance to prove his worth. I'd support him while he made the program his own.
I understand folks calling for his head. The product he is putting on the field is terrible. I don't support his firing, but I'd support what ever the University decided.
I wonder though if he is let go this year, or even next year, how can the administration tell a prospective coach that there will be patience in allowing him to come in and get this program to the championship level? And what coach would believe it, given the track record of the University?

Watch the game, you'll understand how I know it.
I'm just wondering how you know this.
Key me rephrase that then:
There was a reason Osborne didn't offer Barry Sanders a scholarship...it just turned out it wasn't a very good one...There is a reason Fyfe is the back up.
Fyfe is the backup because Tommy Armstrong is a better QB/Athlete/Runner/Passer/Decision maker.

I haven't had a Glurs burger in 4 years....Everybody chill, we got this.
I know for an absolute fact that the all time leader in career receptions for Prague High School has sketched out a play on a napkin while at Glur's Tavern in Columbus last night. This play will be given to Fyfe's girlfriend's mom and hopefully it will be passed along quickly enough to the Cornhuskers in time for them to practice it a half dozen times before the 11:00 A.M. kickoff...and yes, some of this is actually true...

http://www.huskermax.com/games/1992/09iowastate.htmlI don't know that I remember Tommie's first game snaps like I do Steve Taylor's (who had some great bowl game runs against Michigan) but I was out of state at that time for school. The point has been raised that the ISU QB was the only counterpart of Tommie's to have ever, arguably, bested him on the gridiron through college (despite TFraz having gone up against Heisman winners). The 'Clone had one big play, though, as I recall...but then we're also biased.
That Iowa State game was one of the wonkiest games in NU history. NU just couldn't do much all day, and Iowa State hung around and ended up winning. Marv Seiler (ISU QB) had 144 yards rushing, but that was aided by one long run. Frazier didn't have a bad game statistically, but he wasn't supposed to be the leader of that offense as a true freshman. Derek Brown and Calvin Jones didn't do much all day, and the Blackshirts couldn't get ISU off the field.
That was the very first away game that I ever bought tickets to. My brother and I were driving up as a snow storm hit the area. Our plans changed when I blew a frost plug in my wife's Ford Taurus. We spent the day in some grease monkeys shop in the muddle of nowhere while he repaired it.

My weekend revolves around Nebraska football. Rain or shine. Win or lose. Good or bad. Like it should be.

Coach Denney came out and said it. The next day after it happened.
Who told you this? The aquarium guy. You believe everything you hear?He cut a wrestling program on the night they won a national championship. And told the team over the phone.
Zero class.
Trev can f himself.
You think the wrestling program was leaking money? Do your research. It completely self sustained itself. Cut football by all means but the damn wrestling program was not needed to be cut.
Yeah, what he said.

I don't think that team had been forgotten. Many consider that team to be the team that turned the corner and made Nebraska a legitimate national title contender.
Having Tommie step into the starting role after the first few games gave us all a glimpse of just how good he could be. I remember my wife's cousin telling me that, "there's something special about that kid. He's gonna win us a couple of titles."
Problem Identified!!!
