  1. Hooked, I moved to Hastings in 1972 when my Dad was in the AF out at DET 10 (72-76). We might know each other or at least some of the same people

My guess your dad was slightly different generation....age thing. At the time in 72-76 era, I was basically a wild punk kid, i.e. drunk and/or high as a kite (weed) in duty, threshold Article 15 punishments, etc. until eventually settled down my lifestyle (1979 marriage :ahhhhhhhh ).

yeah he was at the end of his career and retired in 76. We lived out at the AF housing until he retired then moved into town.

Back to topic. Does anyone have a pic of the east stadium with the new field in it? i am trying to find a good one that i can use for desktop background

  2. I'm from Hastings too. I go to GI only about once every 6 months, simply to get my new boots at Willis. You cross the tracks on Walnut to there, and it's like crossing over to a third world country. What a shithole.

Me too, Air Force career from 1975 thru 1982 (Det 10 radar site). Half of my civilian friends in Queen City (Hastings) was never ventured Lincoln trip ! I'm serious......not once. Believe it or not, I only spent 5 or 6 times in Lincoln trips over 7 years AF career. In fact, I never paid attention for Cornhuskers football at all until moving to Lincoln.

Back to this thread......how about this?

  3. I know who I'd be more afraid of

    52 Solo 23 asst 85 total 20.5 TFL 12 Sack

    40 Solo 14 asst 54 total 23.5 TFL 13 Sack

Clowney hasn't had his senior year yet, so we'll see, but Suh had 11 pass break-ups, 1 interception, and 1 forced fumble in his senior season. Clowney had 2 pass break-ups and 3 forced fumbles last year.

Edit: Just realized he was only a Sophomore last year. So I have to say I can't agree with you yet.

    Here are Suh's Sophomore stats:

    22 Solo 12 asst 34 total 6 TFL 1 Sack

Clowney wont make it to his senior year. He will go to the NFL after this year unless he gets hurt, but then he may still go pro.

LMAO.... this gif fits my feelings to the tee...... We can't get recruits here for one of the biggest home games (if not the biggest).... yes, it may possibly help with the early time slot for "jet-lag" internal clock issues, but not sold on the fact that their guys haven't been through this before.

plus... it sucks for me.. that's all I am worried about.. "Numero-Uno". I am officiating a wedding for a former football player of mine. I was hoping to an afternoon wedding and a night football game. Oh well, the wedding is an honor to do....... he just better hope Nebraksa wins or has the lead, or I may not smile in the pictures...ha

Who the hell schedules a wedding on a home football Saturday?

  5. One more "No Place Like Nebraska" sniooet about Ron Brown from former walk-on Darren Schmadeke (Do you notice how I slyly market the book's name like that? LOL):

"I want to tell you a story, which I think is pretty funny: at the time we were doing one-on-one drills where I was on the receiver’s side and we would run routes. (I never really had great hands at catching the ball, okay?) I was a running back in high school and I never really was thrown the ball that much, but I remember I’d get a little nervous with Coach Osborne standing there and watching with Mike Grant or another one of the quarterbacks throwing to us as one of the defensive backs would cover us. Well, I’d always get nervous for that, for whatever reason, and sometimes I’d drop the ball or whatever.

One time during practice -and this was my second season as a wingback- Coach Brown pulled me aside and said, “You know Darren, I’d like to make a suggestion to you and kind of get your thoughts on this, but it might be a good move,” and he told me, ”Darren, the thing is… you’ve got hands like feet.” (laughs) I’ll never forget that! “I think I’d like to propose to you that you move over to the defensive side and be a cornerback.” And I kind of looked at him and said, ‘I thought you’d never ask.’ (laughs) So that’s really the transition of when I went over to the defensive side, and that was really a much better fit and role for me. I was much happier swatting the ball versus catching the ball and I got to play a lot more and everything. I’m glad that he as a coach recognized that and switched me over."

    "Hands like feet"

    love it

  6. Let me also say I've only been to 6 games inside the stadium and one at Missouri a long time ago. While they were all fun, the Huskers lost 4 of the 6 games I saw at home. That probably tempers my experience and makes me think I really should stay away!

    I've got the same problem.

I haven't been to a game in Lincoln since my cousin played.. (we lost 4 of the last 5 I saw ...and that was durring the Osborne years) The very 1st game I went to was the week after one of Tom's teams finally beat OU to reach #1 and we lost to Missouri.

The last game I watched in person, we lost out here to ASU 19-0...I got to be Soooo superstitious about my presence at Husker Games, I turned down tickets to the Fiesta Bowl game out here against Florida..Just circled the stadium with my Siberian Husky finding old classmates until the game started, then went home to watch us annihilate the Gators on the tv.

Someday I still hope to make it back for a Spring game with my Son and to celebrate our birthdays. (Old Girlfriend, my Best friend from UNL, his Wife, Mine are a day apart).

Wow, I was at both of those games at Sun Devil Stadium along with the Husker/Vols Fiesta Bowl

  7. Saw this in the OWH. I wonder if the Huskers have kept in contact with him and if the Lasik surgery doesn't improve his ability to hit professional baseballs, will he become "N" again?

Bubba Starling, 6-4/180, QB, Gardner (Kan.): Kansas City Royals (baseball)

    ESPN: 4/115/7

    Rivals: 4/119/6

    Scout: 4/NR/10

The former Husker quarterback recruit-turned-poor-minor-league-hitter is getting LASIK eye surgery to improve his night vision.

On 810 WHB in Kansas City this week, “The Program” host Soren Petro cited sources that said if Starling wanted his full signing bonus, he’d have to commit three years to playing pro baseball. He’s in the midst of year two.

  8. Again, pro-gun people, answer this:

Why would you ever, EVER, need an assault rifle? Why would any civilian need an assault rifle?

I'm not pro gun, but my brother used an SKS for coyote hunting. That's about all I can come up with. I'm not real knowledgeable about firearms though.

That's like using a blast furnace to cook a hamburger

would you like to have one "IF" the US was ever invaded by a hostile enemy? i agree that it is not very likely but I would like to have the ability to own one myself

  9. Also, reducing the magazine size has an apparent easy workaround--just get more magazines and voila, you have the same amount of bullets.

But there are a couple of big difference you're ignoring--time to reload and ability to carry more magazines. If either one can reduce the damage done by madmen, isn't it worth it?

I'm sick of the gun control debate being spun by the NRA and the right as "they want to take our guns." No, they don't. No one said you can't have pistols, no one said you can't have shotguns, no one said you can't have your hunting rifles. But why on earth do you need an assault rifle?

correct me if I am wrong, but where in the 2nd Amendment does it talk about the right to keep and bear arms for hunting?

The most literal interpretation implies arms are for a well regulated militia. Not for any idiot who wants to have them

A well regulated Militia being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms shall not be infringed.
