If Eichorst is to be removed it won't be until Perlman's replacement has had a year under his belt.

Maybe not if we finish 3-9 this season.

Perlman will not fire this guy regardless of the record. Just stop.

The donors to this program have more influence over these matters than you seem to realize.

  2. It's strange that you guys don't have anything at all to contribute to Huskerboard when things are going well. But as soon as we run into adversity, and take a sh**ty loss, you're all over the board taking victory laps. Just strange. :dunno:

Also, I thought the Shawn Eichorst thread with absolutely nothing to say in the OP was the dumbest thread I'd seen in a couple years. Until I opened this thread.

I've been a season-ticket holding Husker fan for over 10 years. Just found this board after Saturday's loss, and I'll still be here when we begin winning again...whenever that happens. :band

  3. This is no topic officially dedicated to this guy, so I am gonna start one and let you guys go from here while I grab some popcorn.

If our record this season ends up between 2-10 and 4-8 (which is very possible), I don't see how SE retains his job with NU after this football season ends, even if they do keep Riley one more year

All of us are upset. Most likely me more than most, as I truly expected it be a little different with Coach Riley. I have not given up hope on him or this team. But the general sentiment of this forum seems to be swinging that way. I think we give the guy a chance, we gave the buffoon before him way too much time.

The problem that most do not consider is the fact that the kids read this stuff. They need our support and supporting the staff helps them feel they have made the right choice I would think. Everyone screaming for their demise can not be good for anything at the moment.

I was not attacking anyone for their feelings, just stating the post was for reaction more than constructive comment.

I have been Husker fan for longer than most on here. I have spent my fair share on the program, and try to help this forum since I became involved with it. But it has changed a lot in the last couple of years. Bo has done the same thing to the fan base that he did to the players. We are split, angry and not willing to wait. Mike Riley took over a real mess. WE have talent, but the mindset of the kids is not positive, as show cased by our team captain and his comments and actions. How many feel like him, who knows, but just one is enough to cause real problems.

Rome was not built in a day, Riley needs our support and the kids need it more. All this negative is not good. I admit I was very negative about the past staff, but it went farther than his coaching. These guys may not be the best coaches, but they are good people and I did not feel the same about the past staff. Bo is the only coach I have not supported, did not from day one. Still feel exactly the same.

I hope the staff figures this out, Nebraska and all of us need them to.

With all due respect, I think you are being a little over sensitive, I think that a lot of us need to chill out.

These new cats might end up being valuable members. I don't think that this board needs to be a good ole boy club.

Just my 2 cents. Apologies if I spoke out of turn.

Wait, 74hunter isn't new? Could've fooled me with his ridiculous posts.
If ridiculous posts you mean spot on analysis that you happen to disagree with, then you would be correct.

    Why so hostile?

I'm fed up with posters who are willing to throw out the pink slip after 5 damn games.

If you were hired and paid millions of dollars to do a job (any job)...and then your boss very soon figured out that you in fact could not do the job you claimed you could. Are you saying, in this scenario, that your boss should cross his fingers and hope for the best even though in his gut he knows he made a mistake by hiring you...all the while, he's paying you millions of dollars per year?

That's not how the real world works.

  5. The problem is obviously Eichorst, he should and will be fired after this season. We are stuck with Riley until we are done paying off Bo. When Bo is paid off then the university can afford to open up the check book at get a splash hire. I would like to see Gary Patterson as a splash hire. If the university want a cheap option and proven winner you go with Doc Holliday at Marshall. Great coach and Urban Meyer's guru recruiter at Florida.

The Husker football program is estimated to generate a $35 million - $40 million NET PROFIT annually. If we go 0-5 in October, the damage to recruiting and reputation will continue to snowball but at an accelerated pace. This all comes down to dollars and cents. After the fan-base's collective reaction to Saturday's loss, coupled with the hard-hitting articles from the World-Herald...I imagine there are some heated discussions happening right now between administration, the coaching staff, and the donor class.

If our sell-out record falls, irreparable damage will have been done to the Program and the stewards of the Program will do whatever it takes (within their power) to protect it...if we go 0-5 in October, I will not be at all surprised if both Riley and the A.D. are fired shortly thereafter.

Have you watched these other Big 10 teams this year? They are TOUGH...tougher than us...all of them. This is shaping up to possibly be the darkest month in the history of Husker football.

Nope...my initial post indeed was for "constructive comments"...of which I have seen plenty. Guess you're not a mind-reader.

And nothing against Coach Riley, but he's not the man for this job...he never was. Getting back to my original question, if we go 0-5 in October, does it make sense to flush them all (including the A.D.) and start over? Why waste 3 more years just to have the inevitable happen?

  7. Leave the Nebraska ties out of this. For the love of god. If we get one of those cuz they are the best available so be it. But jeez. Knock off the nebraska guy bullsh#t. Back the armored car up to the best's house and bring him in.

This is how college athletics are now a days. Paying for the best to get you your Ws. Nebraska for a place that seemingly prides itself on cutting edge sure is way behind the times when it comes to hiring coaches and trying to be the good ole boy not waving the flashy wallet around. Im sick of this sh#t. Just get the best regardless of cost. Frickin Osborne was one of a kind. Lightening in a bottle. And it still took him a generation to get there.

Turner Gill. Craig Bohl. Jeebus Kreist......

Yep...next Head Coach will cost $5 million per year minimum if we do it right (plus a few more million per year for his staff).

  8. When Nebraska was on top, it had a local (TO) who was head man. Throw money at all those others, and your just throwing away money. They don't care about Nebraska or its football program, but they would come here for the fringe benefits of money. If Callahan taught us anything, it should have been that. He recruited 4 and 5 star talent to Nebraska, but it was ininspired talent playing for the name on the back of the jersey, not for Nebraska. Why would any other coach ever come here for any other reason than for the money. Yeah, Richt or Kelly would win 9 games a year, but how long would they remain in place before glam job came open? Callahan and Pelini won 8 and 9 games for the most part, but didn't have the love of the program or state in order for it to ever succeed for a long lasting time. Fire Eichorst, fire Riley and bring in Trev Alberts as AD and he will bring in Scot Frost. Those two men know Nebraska Football and love the program still to this day. This would then bring in your alums that made this program what it once was. Stop with throwing money at the hot new hire like a bunch of spoiled rotten bitches and realize that this is not Alabama or Texas. Get back to what made NU football great, and that is pride in the program, and pride in the STATE of Nebraska. Thats how its been proven to be done in the past, and thats the only way it will ever get back to its ways. Devaney made it work for 9 years, but it was Osborne who sustained this program for 25 years and made it what it was, more than most will admit or realize. It was Osbornes program.

    Well said.

Oh an internet tough guy, fyou and your momma!

You started the name-calling, "tough guy"...I just chose not to look the other way after your flabby fingers typed the word "troll" - get it?

That's not how we do things here, to both of you. Next time a moderator has to step in, there'll be time off.

    Understood.

  10. If we do that, good luck finding a coach that would want anything to do with this place.

Not if it's presented the right way, but it only works if the A.D. gets fired too. With our rich Tradition and the right contractual terms, most big-time coaches would at least entertain the conversation if the timing was right on their end.

  11. I'd put the odds at 65% (at this point), that we go 0-5 in October. If we do, I say fire everyone and make a $5 million offer to the first Big-Name, PROVEN WINNER who is in his PRIME, who becomes available. (and it goes without saying at this point, that this coach would have to be a fit for Big 10 football).
