So when the bats are okay, our pitching gives up 13 runs.
When our pitching is great, our bats go cold.
Going to be a long season if they can't get dialed in together
Baseball's a funny game sometimes.
I hope that NU can really turn it around when conference season starts. Playing inside and taking batting practice inside, doesn't replicate playing outside. It's not unusual for northern teams to struggle early in the season\, especially when they head south to play in games.
Agreed.....These southern and western schools can be outside pretty much year round

This is the equivalent to baseball players only hitting off a tee/soft toss and expecting them to go out there and be able to square up a 95 mph fastball on a regular basis......It just doesn't work

Would have rather seen AJ move but have to like the kids willingness to move to get on the field

What kid that is serious about being a WR wouldn't want to be coached by this guy?
Really glad we got his kid on campus because it won't be long before the USC's of the world come a calling

Didn't get to follow much last weekend but did King get hurt or just bumped from the rotation?

Hopefully Howell builds on his last start!

MattyIce, it doesn't surprise me that you would question my logic.
It's a pretty balanced comment. I enjoy input from folks like Mavric. I endure your two cents.
+1. I also don't understand where he is going with that comment
Not that hard to follow he's simply saying he believes we will have a better record in 2018 than 2017

Everyone hated Bray as a hire for linebackers.
Completely false.
Ok, that was an exageration. How about this many questioned the hiring of Bray at LB due to his lack of experience.
I would say more people were up in arms about hiring a WR coach from Tulane........It was blasphemy and looked at how terrible that tur........oh wait

The fact is, despite only having "10 extra base hits" as the leadoff hitter, baseballamerica.com named him the #13 overall draft eligible prospect. I don't think he gets that kind of ranking if they were concerned that he was only hitting singles every game.
Plus, 3 games into a season is a bit early say the attention he received in the pre-season is overrated.
I'm not talking through three games I'm talking throughout a career. Don't get me wrong Ryan is a very nice player I just don't see top 15 draft eligible college prospect
Does anyone else think for the type of hype Ryan is getting that he might be a little overrated??
The guy had one bad series. It's a bit of a small sample size to say he's gonna suck this year and he's overrated.
Never once did I say he sucked. Just saying for a guy who only had 10 extra base hits all of last year doesn't exactly scream 1st or even 2nd round talent
Did someone say he was 1st or 2nd round talent? Serious question.
He was drafted out of HS in the 22nd. Not sure where he would be today.
I think Boldt was rated among the top 100 draft eligible players in the preseason by some publications.
Regarding his extra base hits last season, didn't Boldt hit leadoff most season? He was probably asked to get on base, and sacrifice some power for contact hitting. This year, as a #2 hitter, he will be able to go for more power. It will be interesting to see how Erstad taking control of the offense has an impact on Boldt.
The only thing a leadoff hitter is going to do is take more pitches. It's not necessarily going to change his swing from going the 1 to the 2 spot.
I disagree. The leadoff guy is asked to get on base no matter what, while the 2nd hole hitter is asked to more at the plate. This includes taking pitches to allow a base runner to steal, moving runners over, hit and runs, hitting for power, etc.
That's really only to start the game. The rest of the game the leadoff guy could be up third that inning or even with guys on base. Each at bat changes throughout the game and in different situations guys are asked to due different things.
Yes, each at bat changes throughout the game, but typical leadoff hitters are high OBP guys who are asked to "set the table" for the "big hitters" behind them. You are right in that they may only "lead off" an inning once a game, but it doesn't mean they turn into power hitting bashers after the first inning.
This guy would disagree with you

If you guys don't think Bo's attitude towards the media, fans or even his bosses didn't trickle down through the team you're missing something. Teams will reflect the personality of their coach aka "Meltdowns"

Per Phil Steele, the number of returning starters for each B1G team plus other Husker opponents:
1. Purdue 16
2. Rutgers 15T3. Nebraska 14T3. Penn State 14T5. Indiana 13T5. Michigan 13T5. Minnesota 13T5. Wisconsin 13T9. Illinois 12T9. Iowa 12T9. Maryland 1212. Northwestern 1113. Michigan State 1014. Ohio State 6Other Opponents:Fresno State 12Wyoming 18Oregon 11Besides DT the starters we have to replace won't take much

At least baseball is right around the corner to distract me

Got a big ratings bump from 247.
Would like to keep grabbing the "local" linemen but I have to think Iowa has the edge.
Not exactly "local", Bettendorf is as far east in Iowa as you can go.
We offered first! Iowa can suck it

6-4 Corner? Sign me up

Porter sure disappeared

Coach Cav probably never thought about rotating linemen at Oregon State, because they didn't have the ability to recruit quality linemen who could play regularly at a young age. There was probably a large gap between their older linemen and their younger guys, so Cav got used to playing a select few almost every snap.
Now Cav is at NU, where he should be able to have more quality depth at o-line and shouldn't have a drop off in talent with the backups. Yet, Cav is still coaching how he did at Oregon State. He's not changing with his improved situation at NU. This is lazy coaching.
Did rotating offensive lineman help the last regime?
I thought the o-line under the former regime had plusses and minuses. It definitely wasn't as consistent as we all would have liked.
My point on Cav is that the old line of "Well, this is how I have always coached linemen" gets old.
The plus being the best lineman they had was a walk-on?
Not saying I don't agree with you....just saying I'm going to save judgment for about another year at least
