  1. I don't think Frost is wrong or anything for wanting to have the QB race settled. I don't think he's wrong for picking AM.

I just think the idea that Gebbia could put in any more "work" and still win the job is just flat out wrong. For Gebbia to win the job at this point, AM would need to fail or to be injured - work and effort on Gebbias part has nothing to do with that.

    Gebbia: "ok"

Just curious.  Are you a junior high kid?

    So, no?

Coaches and universities (and any employer really) can do what is best for themselves, but Gebbia is out of line for making a life-decision for himself? Because of the timing? Life comes at you fast, blink.

Hypothetical.  Because SF didn't do what I outlined in the post above.  But if he had (hypothetical) would that mean it's okay for people to act that way today?

Hypothetical, what if Frost is fired at the end of the season for chewing on campus/the sideline? Or leaves for another job like he did last season?

Is Gebbia wrong if his current coaches leave? Is Gebbia wrong if he had stayed?

Different situation.  The coach who recruited him, Bill Walsh, got fired.  And Frost didn't burn a scholarship when he left.  He transferred in January.

But what if Scott Frost had done exactly what Tristian Gebbia is doing?  What if he had bailed out on the eve of Stanford's season because he didn't get named the starter?  Would those hypothetical actions by Scott Frost 20 years ago make it right to act like that today.  No, it wouldn't.

Yes, that would've been okay for Frost to do...... One size does not fit all. Maybe its best for some people top "stick it out", but thats definitely not the solution for everyone. Both universities seem to be doing ok for themselves anyhow.

Remember back when that weak, selfish, second-rate quarterback with no leadership skills transferred from Stanford to Nebraska when he wasn't the starter?

    * A 3-win Stanford team.... The dude couldn't earn the starting spot on a 3 win team. Weak.

Well no one ever claimed JP was a genus.

Things haven't been going Gebbia's way ever since Riley was fired. Clearly his first reaction wasn't to transfer - that notion is just wrong. Gebbia battled for the job, and then the odds were stacked against him even more on Saturday.

The definition of crazy is doing the same thing and expecting the results to change. It's a shame to see him go, but good to see that the guy has a head in his shoulders.

Carriker’s column (from the 26th, before Gebbia skipped practice)

Somehow, I don’t think AM would have reacted the same way Gebbia did. I do know which reaction/mental attitude I want in my quarterback if we are behind on the scoreboard in a game.

I don't think he would've reacted the same way either, but that has more to do with their differing situations rather than attitude or mental toughness imo. He certainly could've handled it differently, but it takes guts to put yourself out there like Gebbia did, he's taking a risk, he's blinking fast - it might not work out "better" for him, but I wouldn't call it rash. I wouldn't say he's giving up.

from everything i've heard, Martinez has been the better QB in practice and it wasn't even close

i'd imagine gebbia has had this planned for a while, but was just waiting for the official word before moving on.

I think martinez is going to be the real deal. my only concern now is if he goes down with an injury, and we have no scholarship QBs to backup

Maybe you heard something different, but I had heard that at the beginning of camp, but not after the first week.

In hindsight I take it as AM having come into camp in better shape and having performed better the first few days before Gebbia and him started going back and forth.

The difference between the two systems is that Diaco says "Don't give up the big play," while Chinander says "Go make a big play of your own." Passive vs aggressive.

Chin also kinda shrugs at the 3-4 label - he thinks it's kind of a silly distinction.

    Well Diaco's certainly was silly.

But Anderson wasn't fired. I can see getting an Alum if you think there is potential, but firing a 9 win coach for a 5 win coach is baffling.

From what I understand, Anderson was butting heads with Wisconsin to the point where he wanted to leave a top 10 program for Oregon State. He might not have been fired, but he was being squeezed in a lot of ways.

I think the execution of it all was poorly managed, but I don't think the logic or intent was all that baffling.

Nebraska fired a 9 win coach and hired a guy (MR doesn't qualify as a coach) that was 5-7. Has that ever happened before in CFB? A P5 coach fired and replaced with another P5 coach that had 4 fewer wins.

Paul Chryst from Pitt to Wisconsin. Obviously a different situation, but still.

And the odd part is, even in hindsight I think we were right to fire Bo. For as much as he deserved a shot as HC, he proved that he wasn't a good long term fit here either.

We're not supposed to rehash the past, and now your saying we shouldn't plan for the future.... Husker fans, damned if you do, damned if you don't.

I believe a couple of the coaches he hired at UCF and brought here were already coaches at UCF so I wouldn't classify them as "buddies".  They might be now but I don't think they and Frost had  a previous relationship.  Given what they accomplished at UCF they are immune from the skeptical look of "buddy hire" anyhow.

It's important to remember that these same assistants would've been viewed as a poor hire 4 years ago though.... Not that anyone here is necessarily saying Frost should have been hired in place of Riley at the time, but the alternative to hiring Riley 4 years ago was hiring an unproven Frost & Friends, or hiring a coach who, theoretically, wouldn't have been fired after three years. Meaning Frost would be at Florida right now.

Even if we had made a better selection than Riley 4 years ago, Frost would still be the best coach to be at NU. So it all worked out, and there are a lot less questions surrounding him and his assistants. It's full steam ahead, rather than a divided fan base and program - and even midway through last season, that wasn't the case with Frost in all circles.

I mentioned it in another topic somewhere, but I recently watched Frost's first game at UCF and (IIRC) they played 4 different RBs in the first 9 plays.

That all?!?... I'd like to see 8 or 9 guys carry the ball by the end of the first quarter. Nebrasketball on grass.

He won't leave. He will see the field this year. But if Martinez balls out this year I could see him moving on in the off season, which would be unfortunate.

With that said, I don't think the race is fully over. Going to be a fun season

Yeah I'm not concerned with him leaving this season, but if AM blows up like other Frost QBs of the past, then I half expect him to move on at the end on the year.

At this time next season Frost will have 3 of "his guys" in the QB room, so unless Gebbia earns some real stripes on gamedays this season, I think it will be tough for him to ever be higher than 2nd on the chart. Can't fault him if he wants to play, I'm super glad to have him here though, hope he battles through it.

  17. The idea of JD and Lindsay rotating off and on the field in one of our hockey lineups is really exciting.

Probably won't happen this cleanly, but having Morgan, JD, and Bell one rotation, and Lindsay, Woodyard, and Washington the next would be a lot of fun to watch against any team. I just hope AM has quick eye lashes.

  18. I like the idea of the flags, but it does come across as a hulk Hogan sort of entrance at times without know the entire backstory, so I can imagine how it would play with opposing teams fans who only watch us once or twice a year.

I'd be happy if we got rid of the smoke machine.... I'd like it more of they put it under the stadium, at the locker room doors.

I don't think that matters anymore. We have a new coach who likes Pelini and a new AD who is indifferent.

That all might be true, but Pelini still represented the university and the conference very poorly. There are plenty of people still in place at UNL, Minn, the B10, and within the press-world that are really glad Bo is gone...... It was fun while Bo was here, but a parody Twitter account really isn't helping anything at this point.

We need someone to ask Frost if he will acknowledge it.

We need Frost to embrace it..... And we also need for people to stop tagging FauxPelini with every tweet about it - then maybe the universities might be able to get behind it a little more.
