  1. Maybe this is a result of Barney's feelings being hurt because Bo's always screaming at him. At least up there Bo can't poke him. :)

Oh, and if Beck and Taylor have the same brain...well, let's hope it's a huge positive this year.

I think this is writing on the wall. Barney is to bring along Garrison or Stai or both, and then sail off into the sunset.

Do you think he might be up there to help Beck with play calling? Just wondering if maybe Bo wants someone else up there to bounce ideas off of---NOT saying I would welcome this, but it's a thought other than get the hell off my bench, Barney. With all of Barney's family on scholarship, do you think we'd can him?

  2. It was Nebraska football. I think we also have to be realistic in terms of the team we are returning to the field, and we'll be using an offense that our players aren't yet used to. I don't think we will know what kind of team we have after week one. For me, I want to see us convert 3rd downs in tough situations, and I want to see us play from behind. It's silly to claim we are the most talented and experienced team heading into this season. Is #5 too high? Maybe, maybe not, but I don't think it's hard to see why most feel more comfortable with us sitting around the 10 spot.

  3. It's probably a mix of both. If they win a MNC, they've done everything they've needed to do and they've had a successful year. But playing for a MNC is the goal of every kid who plays at a major division one school, so it's not exactly like we're the only team that talks about it. Every school talks about it if they are in the position to win it.

That said, can you have have an 11-12 win season, make a BCS bowl, win it and call it a successful season? I think so. Can you lose three of your last four, including a bowl loss to a team you beat down earlier in the year, and call it an unsuccessful season? I think so.

Agreed. I think if Bo or Martinez got up there and said we'd be shooting for anything other than the MNC we'd be upset. We are a pre-season top 10-11 team. Granted, I think we are a little overrated, but I'm glad this is what our team has set for our goal. Bo wants it. If we win the big 10 there's obviously a decent shot. If we get the big 10 crown, I'm sure Bo won't call the season a failure.

Side note, it sounds like Mitch Sherman was really the only one saying we shouldn't be talking about the MNC as the goal.

  4. I wonder how many jerseys they go through in a given year, especially since those form-fitting ones have got to rip easier than the loose ones.

If I understand correctly, they go through one jersey unless it gets seriously messed up. Minor tears and rips get sewn up...if you look through the season you can see the same inconsistencies on jerseys that were there in weeks prior, Crick's was one I noticed really well last season.

That's what I've read, too. They sew/patch one road and one home jersey until they need another.

  5.

Ah but we get ahead of ourselves. First things first - let's not turn the ball over 8 times, or get so many penalties that we end up punting on fourth and goal, or lose games by scores of 9-6.

This. I think most of us would be happy with sustained drives instead of always hoping for an 80 yd run. I'll be pleased to see us just becoming more consistent and confident on offense. Fewer penalties would be nice, too. I don't plan on us looking like Oregon this year, but this idea of a no-huddle system could be exciting providing we don't always go 3-out and put our D out there too long.

  6. It's just hard to take a man in Velcro shoes seriously...

All I'm hoping is that Martinez can keep his health throughout the year. All we can speculate about is what we've seen. Even though it was on tv, I haven't seen a guy run past the entire field like I did with Martinez against K-State.

  7. Bo personally told every husker reporter to report nothing about Taylor's elbow because he didn't want all the attention on Taylor during the big10 media days.

Right. And the OWH is so well known for playing ball with Bo's every wish.

It's times like these when I start thinking how nice it would be to start handing out 30-day bans for people who post and perpetuate false rumors.

And what if it turned out to be true? I specifically said I was pretty sure it wasn't true, but so many people here have much better connections than I do. I meant no harm in posting this, posed it as something I was hoping for someone to tell me otherwise, and said we could close it down immediately. In no way was I trying to start a witch hunt. I've asked for the thread to be closed. What else could I have done outside of not posting?...which I understand now should have been my option. Sorry knapplc. I felt I was pretty straight forward.

For every rumor that we've had that's turned out to be even partially true we've had a dozen that were little more than someone crying "wolf!" It gets to a point where you have to determine whether these threads entertain the members or annoy them enough that they go elsewhere. We've lost members for being both too permissive and too restrictive of rumors, among other things. Our job is to balance those two ends. We've tried dedicated forums, we've tried locking/removing threads like this until proven true, we've tried all kinds of things.

You're a guy who has posted, what? Five times this year? Folks don't know if you're on the level or if you're poking the anthill with a stick. You say you wanted information, so instead of asking, "Has anyone heard anything about Martinez lately," you come out with "Martinez broke his elbow." If you're just looking for information, it seems odd to post a rumor about the worst-case scenario.

I completely understand where you're coming from when it comes to possibly wording it differently. I've said numerous times we can close this thread down. I was never attempting to poke an ant hill, and I rarely post unless I have something to say that someone else has not. This kid seemed to know what he was talking about. I could have worded it differently, but I chose to word it in the way it was presented to me. Again, I apologize. I was looking for information and chose to present it all to you the same way it was presented to me. I said outright it was a rumor and I had no intention of fooling anyone believing it was truth. They don't have to click on the thread titled ***rumor*** if they don't want to. I also understand what you're saying about the old rumor-mill section, and about policing this one. Actually I looked for a better place to put the thread before posting it. Again, if you think it's out of place, take it off. I won't be offended. Clearly I have stepped on toes. It was never my intention. I just wanted someone to tell me it was BS so I could take it back to the ill-informed golf shop employee when I go back tomorrow. I read the board multiple times a week, and I have been here for years. I love the board, and respect your thoughts.

  9. It looks like this rumor can be put to rest.

    Why?

Did you see him at Chili's?

Didn't see him at Chili's. I heard he only eats nutella.

I figure if something actually happened beyond a sprained elbow, more people would have heard about it by now. Plus, no one else in this thread seems too concerned.

  10. Talked to a trust source, no name. It's a sprained elbow in his non throwing arm. It's currently in a sling for precautions. No time table on healing process. But I would imagine its not significant to keep him from fall camp.

Thanks for the update. I figured it wasn't completely true, but nice to know it's not as bad as he made it sound.

  11. This is a huge rumor, but I heard today from a kid at a pro shop in Lincoln who "claims to know" that Martinez broke his elbow today. We thought he was giving us crap, so I'm hoping for someone here to please deny this claim quickly so we can delete this terrible thread. Thanks.

  12. Hey Vinay,

I don't think you are incorrect about anything and I think you write well. I hope you can identify that the bleacherreport is probably the most inaccurate and off-base sports website in existence, but you are merely posting your message there because many people would be exposed to it without creating your own website.

Secondly, while I don't doubt that you are 15 and I think you write better than most adults on internet boards, there is something really wrong with your letter.

You know how there are only certain frequencies that dogs can hear, like a dog whistle? There is something that you clearly have no perception of, and that is when you are being patronizing. I don't think anyone should really care, because at 15, you're naturally inquisitive and trying to figure out the world around you, but the manner in which you do it is incredibly patronizing and rude. The way in which you wrote the letter came across more as an insult to the intelligence and temperament of the fans of the Corn Huskers than as an open quest to gain an understanding of the situation. Try to be more conscientious when you write in the future.

Otherwise, keep up the good work in writing. Understand that you are dealing with sports fans here, and Texans and Nebraskans will obviously feel very differently over the situation and that both you and the Huskers will see things very differently.

I agree. I also agree with a lot he said in the letter. 50/50 balls are ultimately decided by players, not officials. Every single play has the potential to turn out differently if 1/22 people on the field to something different, so I don't buy the "things could have been a lot different if...".

The point is the game is over, we are still upset about that game (keep '94 out of this), we know we lost the game, and we hope to win this year.

I don't care how old the poster is or how well it was written. Some valid points were made, and some were merely opinion and speculation, much like any other post on a message board.

i don't want to rag on this stranger, but he brought up his age to impress everyone, and then when people question him and his credibility on it, he says his age does not matter. it is quite irrelevant just like that fact that i was born in 2004 has nothing to do with this post. i know he will say that he was framing what he had to say with his age, because he is young with a young perspective, but then how can he bring up '94? i am still wondering what that kid was expecting from us when he posted that 'article'. the only thing that makes sense is an argument. we are not going to agree, we know and understand his side, and anything else comes off has patronizing. i don't mind respectful debate, but i think he pretentiously intended to 'enlighten' us. here is a pretension, we have heard it all. we know where we stand and we know where you stand. all we have left is one game (maybe two) and that is all that matters between us.

edit: the stranger being the op.

I understand where you're coming from.

  14. I coached flag football (5+6 year olds) and his son was on the team. He came to practices and games but usually stayed to himself. He was a nice guy and his son loved to play. He knew quite a bit and would do whatever we told him to do. Can't wait to see what he's like when he gets older.

Huskers-Sooners Carried by Cox in Omaha

The No. 3 Nebraska women's basketball game at No. 11 Oklahoma will be televised live in Omaha on Cox Cable Channel 122, the Nebraska Athletic Department announced on Tuesday afternoon.

The game between the 25-0 Huskers and 19-7 Sooners is being produced by the Sooner Sports Network and shared with both Cox Cable in Omaha, and in Lincoln on MyTV Time Warner Cable Channel 110. Charter Cable Channel 17 in Grand Island will also carry the game, along with other Charter Cable affiliates in greater Nebraska that offer MyTV. Using a digital tuner, you can receive MyTV over the air on Channel 10.2 in Lincoln and Channel 11.2 in Grand Island. The game is also scheduled to be carried on DirecTV Channel 25 in Nebraska.

A win for the Huskers over the defending Big 12 champion Sooners would give Nebraska its first-ever Big 12 title, and its first conference crown since 1988. The Huskers enter the game with a 12-0 Big 12 record, while Oklahoma sits in sole possession of second place at 9-3.

Tip-off between Nebraska and Oklahoma at Lloyd Noble Arena in Norman is set for 7 p.m., with live radio coverage provided by the Husker Sports Network, including 98.1 KFGE in Lincoln, 93.3 KTWI in Omaha and 880 KRVN in Lexington. Free live audio will also be available world-wide on Huskers.com.

The Sooner Sports Network is producing the game locally in Oklahoma. Fox Sports Net and ESPN national network analyst Debbie Antonelli is scheduled to provide color commentary for the television broadcast.

I can't believe more of their games haven't been picked up. Glad to hear they will be on again.

  16. I must be the 1 out of 10 that prefers Adidas. I am on my feet all day (PE Teacher) and go through shoes like crazy. I had Shox and they blew, I tried the Air Max and the flippin "air" pockets went to crap after a month or two. I have had nothing but success with Adidas....shoes, shirts, shorts, etc...

Count me as another. I also teach, but I think my feet fit a lot better in Adidas shoes. Nike shoes have always been too narrow for me. Glad to see Suh sign, but I wish it would have been with Adidas.
