    1978 Nebraska vs OU

That was my first Husker football game.  We had seats in the south endzone.  Cold as hell - I've never liked hot drinks (hot chocolate, coffee, etc.), so 7 year old me was drinking ice cold Coke to add to the chill.

My favorite game has to be NU vs Wisconsin on No Sit Sunday in 2014.  Great atmosphere.  I wish we could get that kind of atmosphere in PBA all the time.

I'm assuming this is not on regular TV anywhere.

TV/Online: Monday's game is not televised, but will be available online at B1G Plus with Jessica Coody and Erick Strickland on the call. To subscribe or for more info, visit bigtenplus.com (straight copy/paste from huskers.com).

I'm not understanding if this is a scandal or poor accounting practices so I asked the paper.

Matt Wynn, whose twitter bio says, "Behind the curtain at Flatwater Free Press" responded:

The memo that gave birth to this article ends:

None of the conclusions or recommendations insinuate that further investigation is needed. Seems like they're calling for changes in accounting procedures and accountability. Seems pretty banal to me (I am not an accountant).

I am an accountant and it's hard to tell much from a memo.  To really understand what was going on we would have to see everything (or at least enough information to actually audit their books) for all the years.

It looks like there were some unusual practices but most athletic departments run in the red and have to get money from the general fund + fund accounting is a completely different animal from regular accounting.

I think the most concerning part for me was that any expense over $1000 had to be approved by the "Athletics Cabinet".  That seems like a very small amount for an organization with the amount of revenue they have.  I get that they want to get expenses under control, but that is a very low threshold.

Tominaga said it was pretty swollen but better today.  He said he's hoping to be available by the opening game vs. Lindenwood.  Not sure if Hoiberg has the same timeline.  But he sure thinks it'll be sooner rather than later.

They shouldn't need him for the first few games.  Better to make sure he's 100% than to rush back.

I am 1/2800 here at the game. Keisei Tominaga limping off the court with 10 , mins into the first half.  Scuttle-butt here is he may have broken his ankle.  That would suck if true.  If anyone has any additional info, from the radio etc...let me know.

Definitely not broken.  He walked to the bench for the second half without crutches or a brace.  Hopefully it looks worse that it was.

  6. CBS Sports released it's top 100+1 teams for 2023/24.  Nebraska at 75.  Penn State & Minnesota the only B1G teams not in it.

    Purdue - 1

    Michigan State - 11

    Illinois - 18

    Maryland - 23

    Ohio State - 32

    Wisconsin - 33

    Northwestern - 43

    Rutgers - 45

    Indiana - 46

    Michigan - 62

    Iowa - 79

It's a big year for Fred Hoiberg, who probably will need to finish better than the 75th in the sport to be assured of holding on to his post. Hoiberg is 40-83 in four seasons and has 18 total wins in league play. Thankfully, he's got some sort of player in Keisei Tominaga, a 6-2 senior who could average north of 16 points. The Huskers had to go into the portal heavy, and due to that, a lot of questions still need to be answered with how much better this team can or will be from the group that was 149th in offensive efficiency a season ago.

Only NC teams in it are Creigton at 7, K State at 26 & Duquesne at 97

Hearing rumblings that Keita still not healthy yet

He is definitely still healing from his ankle surgery.  We probably won't need him until we start playing B1G teams.  Against most of the teams in our NC slate we should be able to use Mast/Allick/Gary as our 4/5 rotation.

  8. With there being 20 days until the first game that counts + they have a "secret" scrimmage with Utah on Saturday, it's time to guess starting lineups.

PG - Lawrence/Coleman - whichever doesn't start will likely be the first off the bench most games.  I'm guessing Lawrence will win the starting job.

    SG - Tominaga

    SF/Wing - Williams

    PF/Wing - Gary

    C - Mast

    PG - Coleman/Lawrence

    SG - Wilcher

    SF/Wing - Lloyd/Rice

PF/Wing - Allick - he will probably be the first "big" off the bench.

    C - Keita

Hard to figure out between Lloyd & Rice.  Rice was impressive in Spain this summer & not much was said about Lloyd.  Rumors were that Lloyd looked really good in practice while he redshirted last year.

I'm sure Hoiberg will be in the rotation.

Jacobson might find his way into the rotation based on his performance in Spain.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Diop redshirt.

Ulis will sit until the NCAA decides what to do with his gambling issue.  Based on what NCAA rules are and what he's admitted to, I'd be shocked if he ever plays college basketball again.

Grace & Burt will probably only play in mop up situations.

Yeah...they need to take care of business in the non-con.  9-2 should be the expectations.  Anything worse than that should be looked at as troublesome.  But...it sure would be awesome to be 10-1 or 11-0.

It's probably going to be another non-con where we start conference play still not knowing how good we are.

At least the two December conference games aren't virtually unwinnable like the last several seasons.  MSU will be tough, but at Minnesota should be winnable.

    Only three weeks until Lindenwood...

Was just going to point that out.  That puts them 11th in the B1G.

    Purdue #1

    MSU #13

    Illinois #19

    Wisconsin#20

    Marlyand #22

    OSU #35

    Michigan #44

    Indiana #49

    Iowa #50

    Nebraska #58

    Rutgers #59

    Penn St #85

    Minnesota #112

    Only two NC matchups matter:

    Creighton #12

    K-State #25

Third best NC team is Duquesne at 89.  Even Oregon State is only at 175 (one place behind Cal State Fullerton).   If they don't go at least 9-2 in NC, it could be a long season.

NC average is 207, conference average is 45.

  11. ESPN has graded the 46 D1 transfer QB's.  Sims got a D-.

Grading 46 college football quarterback transfers in 2023 - ESPN

    Quote

    Grade Tier: D-

    158.png&h=60&w=60

    Jeff Sims, Nebraska Cornhuskers

    Transferred from: Georgia Tech

2023 stats: 220 pass yards, 1 TD pass, 4 interceptions, 156 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD

How he has fared so far: Sims brought starting experience and dual-threat skills to Nebraska's offense under a new coaching staff but had a very rough start before an ankle injury late in a Week 2 loss to Colorado. The accuracy and turnover issues that surfaced at times during his time at Georgia Tech showed up as he had three interceptions in a painful opening loss to Minnesota, and then three more giveaways (two lost fumbles, one interception) in the Colorado debacle. Sims' running ability jumped out -- he had a 57-yard touchdown run against Colorado -- but so did the mistakes, and Nebraska is moving forward with Heinrich Haarberg at QB.

For comparison Logan Smothers got a B- & Casey Thompson got an incomplete.

I do think there is like this odd idea that everyone is out watching HS games on a Friday.  For the most part I don't think I know one person that goes to a high school game on a Friday night anymore.

I didn't go to HS football games when I was in HS.  I ran cross country, so we always had a meet on Friday or early Saturday AM.  If our meet was Friday, I was too tired to watch the football get their a$$es kicked and if it was Saturday I had to be up at 5 or 6 AM so I could eat something before the meet.

Well, hopefully, we get the conference season started off well instead of being bad and then good at the end.

It would be nice if that happened.  I think the NC schedule is set up to give the team confidence.  Other than the Creighton & K-State games they are all easily winnable.  I'm not sure what K-State has this year, but it's in Manhattan and will be Sunday after finals week where practices will be shorthanded/inconsistent because of player availability.
